Topping????

I figured topping would be easy to understand, but once I actually had it in front of me I kind of didn't know what to do.

Can you please explain what to actually prune in order to top this?



If you could draw a circle or do an extremely visual description I would be very appreciative!

me .. personal .. I would wait a week more .. give it time to grow 1-3 more sets of leaves ..

and I would FIM it (just pinc of 80% of the new top grow .. the new tip at the top .. cut it so you onlu have a littel bit of it left .. like 20%)

I could use some more descriptions. I don't fully understand it. I thought it has to be a "top" leaf. And if this causes two new branches to grow how is it helpful?

yeas thats topping what hes saying is fim just about the same thing but you dont cut off the whole top just most its less stress on the babys

yes topping will produce 2 new tops insted of the one you had (side shots shooting up insted and take its place)

with FIM you mostly get between 2 and 8 new shoot (4 is commom and what I have on mine)

also .. all the other side shoots will grow up .. I have 12 main tops on my plant now ..

to FIM (fuck I miss) is a topping going "wrong" that will in most cases give you more tops then a "normal" topping (do some research)

but to boil it down .. find the very top of your plant (the new growth) .. will be some non unfolded leaves .. might be a inch long .. take of 80% of it .. cut it with a CLEAN rayzor or knife ..

it will not grow much for a few days .. do to stress .. but then it will give you a smile on your face as side shoots grow up all over

Once I cut off the top and two shoots grow out, do I cut those two new leaves also? Or do I wait for the next node up to do that?

Also, how does this cause the plant to get more light below? It seems like by doubling the number of leaves forming it would block out lower light.

cut the top set of leafs off right above the next set of leafs down. its probably the easiest thing to do with these plants, even easier than watering lol. your just cutting their heads off lol.
it allows some lights down the middle where you cut it and puts it growth energy to the next set of nodes down

i would wait another week or so though

most people do it for yield.

it is not what its block .. it is how bushy and low you can keep the plant and also how even you can keep the canorby ..

think about it .. if you just let it shoot up at the light it will only be the very top of the main cola that get real light .. if you make your plant a bush/bonsai with many shoots you will spread out the canaby .. that way have like me 12 shoots with bud sites close to the light ..

yea they will be smaller in size .. maybe I only get half or even 1/4 of one of them as 1 main colar .. but multiply that with 12 .. plus all the side shoots on 12 main steams insted of one .. easily double your haverst Im sure ..

and just as a advice I somehow think I need t give here ? .. dont pull any fan leaves off it to get light down .. maybe bottom 1/4 down (last few inches that dont get light) later on befoe flowering .. need good air flow down ther and need to make the plant consentrait on the buds at the tops ..

light .. nomather if it is CLF .. T5/T8 tubes .. HPS or MH loose light dramaticly at distance .. not like the sun out side .. like evry time you go a foot away you loose 4 time (or its only 1/4 as strong)

and dont FIM/top your plants agin right after ... you can do it agin .. and maybe even a 3Th time .. if you Veg for long .. but it needs time to recover (2-3 days) and then time to shoot up agin (maybe a week or two) maybe after the new once have 3-4 new nots you could do it agin ..if you realy want it bush with small bud sites ..

I did only FIM it once and got 12 shoots in total .. 6 main and 6 more on the side .. did just LST them out to make room for more growth in the middel and to keep a even canaby ..

So I should not FIM every new growth I see? Only certain ones? How do I know if I should FIM or not?

how you schould know ? use commen sens .. and logic .. and just try it out and see if you like it and if ti is sumthing to continue with ..

I FIM on and LST that other one hard .. I like FIM the most .. with a littel LST to keep it even .. will for sure continue with this metod ..

but realy its more about what light you use .. what space your working with and what you like .. also depense on Veg time aso.

etc. I grew only 2 plants under a 600W HPS so I let em veg for +6 weeks .. next grow I will try 4 plants and let em veg for only 4 weeks or so (that will only give me time for one top/FIM Im sure)

could also grow 12 plants and not tutch them ... veg em for 2-3 veeks and then flower em .. keep em small (scorg maybe)

ther are many ways to do this .. all depense on what you like . dont just do as Ppl. tells you or how they like to do it .. what is good for them might not work for you ..

gather a lot of info and do some research and based on that try out and learn by doing (the only real way to get the experiance)
