Hi all and thank you to past posters for the wealth of knowledge...everything I've learned so far I've gotten from here...starting with bubbleponics for dummies has helped tremendously.
Now on to the good stuff. I like most had no idea where to begin...first it was soil then maybe hydro then def soil then back to hydro again after I saw the dig bubble buckets. I decided that was the way I was going to go and that I would build it myself ( much more work doing this but very satisfying. So on to supplies I used
I live in a very small town with only a walmart no lowest, hydro stores big garden centers...u get the point
1. 2-2l soda bottles
2. 2 large arrowhead water bottles
3. 5 gallon buckets...one for each plant u want to grow (much if u know anyone in construction they are the people to ask)
4. Tupperware or rubbermade tub (small) for seedlings
5. Lava rocks from my yard (bc I think they are ugly and could nt pay people to take them)
6. Sponge (much I cut apart an office chair from work that they didn't want)
7.plastic clothes hangers to hold your "net pot" in the res for seedlings
8. Air pump (im using 2) $15 ea at walmart
9. Air tubing
10. Air stones 6" super cheap
think that about covers supplies (much as far as buckets, setting up the room and lights will obviously require more. I lucked out and have a lot of fluorescent fixtures at home that I don't need so they have been reclaimed for my grow.
So I germed my seeds in the foam from the office chair...the type of foam I have doesn't hold much water so I put them in a Tupperware dish with water in the bottom. (Didn't drown the seeds so good to go there)
After I had germed seeds I cut the tops off of the 2l bottles and drilled and drilled until I felt there were sufficient holes to allow free circulation of water and air. Then I boiled and cleaned the lava rocks. Place the sponge and seed very low in the bottle and fill with lava rocks. Placed into small tub of water with airstone and water up to the bottom of the sponge...
5gal buckets will basically be the same but with a hole cut in the lid for the water bottle (done same as 2l)
I only have one picture right now but u can see the 2l bottle top, lava rocks and sponge. More to come as I take them...in the end it doesn't get more ghetto looking but it seems to be working...I set myself about a $400 budget...I have spent $42...in the future I will upgrade but I have to say doing this myself has been much more rewarding than buying all this stuff...I do have a partner but I think he's more about taste testing than construction and growing oh well
