Guide to Repotting 101!

So today i had a sick plant i was gona throw that showed good signs of recovery, have been having a lot of cal/mag problems and working through a few nute deficiencies at present. I had previously pushed her to the edge of the grow room where she has been for a week.

Today i decided to repot her as i think she might just make it to flower. In the first couple of pictures you can see what the roots look like when it is time to repot. This is the earliest i would repot and the roots were barely holding the mass of soil together.

I just put the whole roots and soil into fresh soil in a prepared pot, i fill the pot but leave enough room for the new plant. I do not plant the stem much deeper than it originally is although i discard the top layer of soil and give it some fresh stuff. I may repot up to an inch lower on the stem but not much more than this as the roots will have to grow back up to the surface again.

Lastly i cover it all over and water round the pot and its back into the veg room to grow strong and healthy. I always wait till the plant needs a watering till i repot so that i do not break my watering cycle.

In a week i will top her at the third internode and hopefully she will grow up to be like the one behind her in the veg room. As for repotting i like to keep it simple, no need to mess around, be carefull not to break the plant and a strong established root system will help ease the pot from the soil. I like to squeeze the sides of the pot a little to loosen the plants grip on the pot and push the bottom of the pot up to unstick the pot from the bottom, it tends to slide out now, careful pulling the stem at this point as it is still a little small, leave this for bigger plants and try just turning the pot upsidown to get the plant out, obviously with your fingers either side of the stem to catch it. Peace

ive seen people talk about topping, what does this do , make for a bigger yield ?

and hows it done ?

Yes and no, in some circumstances it will make for a bigger yeild say in a grow where you want to keep the plants short. I did a thread on a topped plant once i will see if i can post the link. I grow with cfl's and flourescents so can't let plants get too tall otherwise the bottom bud will be flimsy and airy. I top and train four main branches up to grow bud.

when im repotting i find it easyer to put a bit soil in the bottom of new pot then fill the old pot with soil ( the same size as the one im takeing the plant out of) then place that into the new biger pot then fill with soil, then you pull the smaller pot out and your left with the perfect size hole for you plant to fit into, im not sure if that makes sense but i hope so. it makes it much easyer and the plant has a nice stress free transplant.

im going to do the most logical thing, fill my new pot with soil, , leave a space for my old pot, build the soil around it , then remove the old smaller pot WITH the soil and plant still inside, then cut away the bottom two thirds of the old pot so im not actually removing the old soil from the older smaller pot, then after a few days, ill snip away the rest and lift it from the soil once the plant has taken hold in the new soil.............iffyah know what i mean, lol

I don't understand that well but sounds like you are going to put one pot on top of the other or somthing. I would do it my way and suppose that is the way i do it. Research things first if it is a method you are unsure about.
