Here's some pics to give you a start on what to aim for when topping to keep plants short. I won't say a lot and just let the pictures talk for themselves! This plant is ready for the flower room, just come out of the veg room ready for repot, the bigger plant is what this will be in two weeks and has just started to flower. Notice i only train four main branches up and thats it. Good luck!

I tried my first try at topping. Waited until about 6 nodes, cut back down to two. Trying to keep it short enough to put in this book shelf that is in my flowering room. My strain naturally grows tall though, kinda sucks.

Kizzzzurt you need to keep the light close, when you repot plant the stem lower everytime, i wouldn't topp till the third internode and leave to the fourth internode if plant looks a tad small or unhealthy. To keep them small place in flower room one week after topping, you still get two weeks growth on average whilst the plant is starting to flower so factor this into your grow height and time. The second internode is ok to topp at but shouldn't be done really. You will get the same height wether you top at the second or third internode in my opinion. Lst might work better for you in your situation.

Mugan this is why i posted these pics to give you a visual aid for topping. Good luck

I was going about doing LST as well on it. I already cut it down but it's been revegging for a little bit now. I have a picture of it when I very first topped in, in a topic that I made. I plan on updating it whenever I wake up. Too tired to worry about it right now. Professor cancelled my 8 AM class.

How would you suggest making holes in your pots? I may just say fuck it and use a drill but I don't want it to like shake the plants too much. How much should I LST? Could you look into my topic and subscribe to maybe give me pointers on LSTing it.

Probably bad using a drill!!! I don't and never have lst, i have the room to top which seems quicker and easier. You will have to look at previous threads for the best info dude. When you top if you do, do it straight away as soon as the internode you want to top at grows, if you wait to top till plant grows bigger it will end up taller. I use topping to train my plant up not to cut the vegetation back. Good luck.

Ah. I see, we're coming from different stand points. I have the room in my flowering room for 6 mature girls, probably 5+ footers would fit in there, but there's a book shelf that I've been thinking about using to maximize space and maybe just have an extra 3/4 ounce or ounce every harvest. I could fit probably 2 or 3 well trained plants in there. Just not sure how long to veg it out after topping, should I be tying it down all over?

Meh, I've read a lot about it.. Just seems like it'd be weird. I pull down on the branches that I'd like to tie down and I'm thinking to myself, "do I really want to do that to my plant"? I dunno, guess it's just weird to me since I've always just let them get big.

Pin the tip of the plant down and grow it in a circle round the pot seems to be the main lst route, tying the branches down will stop it from futher getting taller. Just do it once and you'll know for sure, i am definatly the wrong person to ask about lst but from your situation with the book shelf i would also suggest autoflowering varieties as these will finish very small and compact and give you that extra yeild you talked about. If the stem is strong and the growth fast top and put straight into flower if you really want. You need some hands on practical experience now so go for it and stop asking!lol P.s. if you grow autoflowers you need to make sure you are good because they will not wait for your mistakes in growing. From the sounds of your plants you will not have any problems here. Experiment with the knowledge you have, now go do it! Good luck

Thanks. Yeah I've only had a few grows behind me but I've learned from my parents that have grown for over 50 years between the two of them. So I know what I'm doing but when it comes down to certain little things, like.. "trouble shooting" my plants, it's a little harder than just someone teaching you how to do it. Like you said, gotta learn from experience.

I was REALLY wanting some autoflowering plants but the fact that you can't clone them and I'm not much of a pollinator, I don't see me getting into these too much. I don't want ANY males in my room and to keep seeds around you have to do that at some point. I'll just try different stuff, all else fails I'll just put it under the light like a normal one lol. I got the space, just wanting to maximize.
