Confused and looking for a post/thread (Total n00b!)

Good evening everyone. I am a first time grower. It all started with some bagseed I kept. Now, I'm at Lowes, scouring the Internet and finally came to this fine site.

Here is my issue. I have flat out "over read" too many sites and have simply confused myself. I'm hoping there is an archived thread on this site that someone can point me to that says "here", this thread has it all newbie

Right now, the bagseed plants are two weeks old. They are small due to my ignorance of lighting (which I spent two hours on this site educating myself!). The potter they are in has decent soil, but I plan a transport (when you see the attached pic, rest assured, the seed are separate in the planter; still, bad idea how I started).

This weekend I will have their permanent home ready and am looking for some info at this point.

After reading many threads on sex of the plants, I can't tell if the center plant in my pic is going to be male, or is just leggy due to my current light.

As well, I have read about keeping male plants around for a while (Thanks to some excellnt graphics on this site, I think I will be able to ID male / female further into my grow). At what point should I ditch a male when I ID one??

Again, I know most of these questions if not all have been asked already..I'm looking for the thread that is as close to the silver bullet as I can get so I can un-fuck my confusion.

Thanks all for any input and I will post pics during my grow..

Also, the bag seed is my "practice" run. I have some seeds ordered off the net that arrived yesterday. I plan to correct my mistakes with them as I learn more here...

Peace out all, thanks!

Can't BELIEVE I didn't click that nicely sized FAQ button...

sorry for what amounts to ANOTHER redundant newbie post here...

welcome, 1st of if your going big with the plants i would separate them right now. 2nd get you light closer, if its already close then you need more light.3rd don't over water wait for soil to dry out a couple inches. 4th just water for at least 3 weeks ph'ing every time you water. when you start feeding them start at 1/4 strength and work up, and remember to check the runout periodicly. make sure you have good ventalation, and adiquit air flowfreash being better. OH AND IS THAT POO POO STRAIN, LOL

They are getting seperated tomorrow..my current lighting sucks...I just tossed down some cash on some fluorescents for their new home..As for the marijuana itself, I couldn't tell you what it is! ahah..I got the bag off a guy I know who grows his own. Figured I would take a shot myself...

I figure I am going to try my hand at this before I plant my purchased seed ;-)

Appreciate the reply!

Loose the tin foil. You're better off painting your walls/inside of your grow cab white.

Where the plants are moving to is already white. I'm gonna check the 101 questions thread, but ask here as well. Is there a "good" white paint? Something a bit more reflective that I can use?

Still have some more work to do.
I am adding another 110 line to support more light. The black "drape" in the background is for night time use until the lights kick off. During the daytime, I can open it up for more natural light to come in.
Again, these are bag seed. This is my trial run to learn with before I plant my white willow..

Thanks to all who have had input so far!

BTW, the light is 6500K and 3050 lumen's. I will need at least one more soon.

Forgot to mention, the initial light source sucked, bad. :-? The roots looked pretty good on these plants and as weather permitted, I would move the potter outside.
I have my timer set to OFF at 1am and ON at 5AM.
I've read elsewhere of 18-6.
What would your recommendation be?

IMO, running either 18/6 or 20/4 will get you negligable differences in how the plant grows. My vote then is for 18/6, only because it'll save you some cash on your electric bill.

Also, be carefull about having an open window right above your plants like that. You don't want somebody seeing them, and either stealing them and/or calling the cops on you.

Thanks man..I live on a couple acres out in farm land. So, not to concerned about peepers..Think I'm gonna go with 18/6 too..

Appreciate the input.

Couple days later since the transplant. Not too much growth, but I expect with the "new" environment and it being un-seasonaly cold at night here is what is holding them back.
Still, little bit of progress.

I was going nowhere fast with 3000Lumen Florescences. Did some digging around my area and found a grow shop...Really cool cats, very knowledgable. Didn't pry, but nudged me into areas that I needed to be.

I have seen pictures of HPS on this site...Wasn't prepared for the first time I fired one up myself (watching it cycle through different colors until the lamp heated up a bit). Now my little grow area is lit up like the sun!! WOW!

I'm going to keep a close eye on this bag seed, if it looks like it is reacting well, I am going to germinate the seed I bought from Marijuana-Seeds (White Widow, Crystal and Ice). This time, I won't be using MG but using advice I have read on this site so I can control the nutes...

Anyone make recommendations on how close I should keep the lamp to the plants? The room is fairly cool, but circulation will now be an issue. I am going to get some fans tomorrow. The room should be somewhat on the cool side for the next couple months due to it being half under ground (I live in a split level elevation).

Thanks to all so far that have commented and to this site in general...Have learned SOOOOO much!

I have the mylar in my truck, but have to run out to lowes and get some adhesive to hang it...Will grab that when I get the fans..

looking good mate,

keep us posted on how they go. get some close-ups of you ladies as well.

cheers

Thanks...I don't expect much out of them to be honest..They have had a hard life already :?

This all started as a fluke...The were not germinated before hand. About 12 seeds were planted, these, three made it. They were fed a paltry 13 watt fluorescent for a couple weeks but did get some outside time as conditions permitted. From there, they have been under 3000 lumen 6400K regular fluorescence.
They are planted in miracle grow along with some peat mixed in.

Finally, they are under 95K lumen HPS. It will be interesting to see how they do now. The plants (under better conditions) should be much further along than they are..But, hey, I'm learning! ;-) :peace:

Cheers back at ya...
