few questions with pics - first grow - pH trouble

hi everyone, been reading for the past few weeks and was motivated to try and grow in my Aerogarden - which I am learning may not have been the best choice.

However, I'm about 10 days in and here's where I've gone

I sprouted a few seeds I was given by a friend using paper towels in plates
He said some he thought were indica and some were sativa but he had no strain names for them.

I recently received my pH reader and now am trying to combat a rising pH level... I will use pH down to bring it to around 5.4-5.8 but after a few hours it will be up in the high 6's and low 7's.

I used a mixture of spring water and tap water that i let sit out for a few days.
I bought some of that aquarium liquid stuff - tap water purifier or something that removes chlorine and other metals from the water. I am reluctant to drop a few drops in the reservoir though...

I think the plants are still looking pretty good so far - but I am pretty colorblind so I'm hoping for some confirmation from you guys!

If anyone knows how to control my pH as well that would be awesome!

The roots are growing strong and there doesnt seem to be any 'nute burn' so I'm not too worried yet...

I am using Advanced Nutrients Grow/Micro/Bloom kit on the "rooted clones/seedlings" schedule - but still only using about 1/3 what it is asking for.
The roots are growing strong and there doesnt seem to be any 'nute burn' so I'm not too worried yet...

I've attached a few pics - if you have any questions I'll be happy to answer

thanks for all the information!

I was having Ph problems as well. Especially at the stage you're in now. I think the tap water is the problem. Just use the Ph+/- for now. You would be better off using bottled water for the AG.

When you start using 100% of the recommended nutes and bottled water, the Ph stabilizer in your Advanced nutes nutes should keep your Ph steady enough. For the AG, 5.2 -5.8 is okay. Keep it under 6 and over 5 to prevent locking out nutes. Better to have the soup a bit acidic to avoid root rot, bacteria, etc.

Are you making sure ,after you add the ph down, that the water in your res. is mixed well...sounds like you are not getting the ph down in the entire res...

ive heard aquarium drops work to get rid of chlorine and other trace substances..but that wont affect your p.h level much..try changing out your water or gettin some r/o water ..p/h the spring water you get and the tap and figure out whats causing the increase to isolate the problem, then work from there

1. PPK...read again...
2.Den...no one can tell you where you need to get your seeds , local weedman , or numerous seedbanks discussed on this site , you pick......

good question auto, thanks for the replies

I was hoping that the air stone and water pump would mix it up enough but i'll give it a good swishing after my next calibration attempt

it is a fairly small reservoir - under 4 litres ( < 1 gallon )
does anyone know what amount of ph down i should use for this amount?
I have been adding drops, usually 3-4 drops to bring it down to a low 5 from the high 6 low 7...
does this sound right or not nearly enough?

and thanks for the tip pkp, i'll do some troubleshooting with the raw water for my next batch

and Sicc, I have been using the advanced nutrients pack that i have, but i do have the AG nutrient tablets... should i throw half of one of those in there just to help regulate the pH or should i not mix nutrients?

thanks again guys

I started having Ph problems not too long ago, about a week ago, i dont have ANY PH tester or PH up/down, and the AG tabs helped buffer the PH, go to my gournal in my signature, look at the last two updates and you will see the difference, it should help

I tried to grow and started with distilled water. They looked great. After a few days of being lazy and using tap water, they croaked. That stuff is poison. Chlorine, flouride, calcium. Our tap water pH is 8.x.
