Im at a loss here! I've gotten all of my seeds to crack and show the tap root but they just aren't coming up out of the soil. I have one plant that did the others have not. I'm not a complete idiot, I do keep a normal garden in the backyard so I really can't figure this out. This morning while taking a peek at them I accidentally knocked one over so I had to go searching for the seed. I found it and it was completely dead.

I'm using fox farms happy frog soil in a big bin holding two 2 foot FL tubes. Water is tap water, but has been filtered and let set so there is not chlorine in it. I also have a grow journal going here for timeline purposes.

yo, how long has it been that they havent popped outta the soil??

i germinate this way and have excellent success.

fill a shot glass half full with water, drop in however many seeds u want germinated and let it sit in a dark place for 24 hours. after the 24 hours, take 2 paper towels together and fold them in half and put on a plate. then pour your shot glass full of seeds and water into the inside of the folded paper towels. fold over the other half to cover the seeds and then sprinkle water over it to mat it down and make sure the whole thing is quite moist but not soaking wet. put the whole thing into a ziploc and back into a dark place for 1-3 days or until you see little white tails. when u do put them in your soil under light and they should sprout in 2 -5 days.

I dont think I've been overwatering. I've been using a sprayer twice a day to lightly mist the soil so keep it a little damp. I left it go this morning and I'm going to leave it again tonight to see how it looks in the morning.

The happy frog has no nutes other then natural stuff.. bat guano... etc.

basic questions - how deep did you plant them? and are they just bagseed? soil draining well? something seems wrong.

Sometimes if you put it in a dark place they'll break soil... Had 1 this year...
came up 1/2" overnight... luck

I'm a hydro grower and don't know much about soil or organics, but I think I've read a lot that you shouldn't germinate in fertilized soils such as miracle grow soil and what not and it sounds like this fox farm soil might be the same kind of stuff, even natural stuff like bat guano contains high levels of phosphorus and nitrogen that could be too much for your seeds at this stage.

Thanks... I'll have to look in to rockwool or another growing medium for the next time.

So far I think I was overwatering too. I stopped watering all together for 24 hours and now I have 2 I can tell for sure that are sprouting and 1 that I still have hope for. That and my one sprout hasn't grown much in the last 48 hours but is sitll very healthy looking. My thought that the soil was to moist making it to hard for the roots to grow and thus growing the plant. If I'm thinking wrong here, please chime in.

The others I think are a lost cause. I wanted 5 plants total but I think I'm either going to deal with 3 and hope most or all are females since they are feminezed seed or i'll germ some of the free seeds I got with my order.

Other tip I got in my grow journal was not to use a clear cup.

when you planted the sprouts, did you keep the soil VERY moist until they come above the ground, cuz maybe you under watered and the sprout dried out and died. I've always had success this way.bongsmilie

Buried them about twice the diameter of the seed... maybe a little more... not much. Not bagseed. Its White Widow from White Label. Holes in the bottom of the cups and there is plenty of perlite in the fox farms soil for drainage.

Although MG IS a shitty medium(and i can testify to this personally), it worked awesome for me during the first 2-3 weeks. I put my seeds in MG soil when the taproot was pokin out of the seed somethin like an inch to two inches, and within 2 days all of my plants were bustin out of the soil at least an inch or two each. Now, im 3 weeks into my grow, and i actually had to transplant my babies into regular potting soil, and im using some bottled nutes. But all in all, for the first couple weeks, everything was awesome, and my plants were growing like wildfire, til they got a lil bit of nute burn cuzza those fuckin time release nutrient balls in the MG soil..

N also, do you think its possible that your taproot is upside down? maybe its growing downward, and youll just have to wait for it to turn around, and start growin up till it pokes out...

you should also wait untill they have an 1/2 inch tap root or so
many wiill say only 1/4 inch

i put my seeds in when the tap root was barely poking through...like slightly cracked and barely a tip...and 2 days later they were already fully out of the soil..

More then anything I'm convinced it was the soil now. The only other variable would be some odd seeds. But now that I have transplanted them last night to some jiffy mix instead of the soil I was using - one already popped through. Hopefully the other two will recover and follow shortly. I have two more germing. Soaked them in water for 24 hours and moved them to paper towel last night. This morning they have decent tap roots going, but I'm probably going to leave them till tonight or tomorrow am before moving them to the jiffy mx.

i put mine in jiffy pellets in a seedling tray with a plastic lid. i poke holes in the lid with a tack to let some air flow in and to help eleviate condensation. i crack the lid a few times a day so water doesn't build up and fall on the seedlings. they get huge this way like an inch in 3-4 days

Well I dont have the pellets but I have the mix in cups in a rubbermaid bin with the lid on.. a few holes for ventilation and I spray the sides down to create some humidity. Not exactly the same, but pretty close. So hopefully this should work well.
