Vinnie Kaz: electrical engineer, 30-year cannabis grower and consultant, author, gold prospector, door-to-door salesman, commodities trader, and martial arts trainer, was thrust into the exciting world of clandestine cannabis cultivation more than thirty years ago, when his gold prospecting activities took him to Siskiyou county, northern California.
Gold prospecting claims were located in Happy Camp, California, just 40 miles northwest of the “golden triangle” of Humboldt, Mendocino, and Trinity counties. The year was 1981, and northern Cali was, at that time, the undisputed leader in the cultivation and breeding of outdoor-grown, connoisseur-quality cannabis. For the prior five years or so, Vinnie had been living in Chicago, cutting his teeth on commercial, seeded strains like colombian gold, and mexican brown; not exactly a high-quality selection. On his first gold expedition to Happy Camp, some of the growers in the area allowed Vin to partake of two, high-quality locally-grown strains: a greenhouse ripened Burning Bush x South Indian, and Purple Afghani #2, which was grown in the high-country, at 3000 foot elevation. These guys were already master growers, and the weed was the best that Vin had ever smoked. Needless to say, he was hooked on the combination of seedless weed, and superior genetics, from that point forward!
Over the decades, many gold expeditions were undertaken, many good friends were made, and many connections to the underground, outdoor-grown, cannabis economy were established. This unique position allowed Vinnie to witness, first-hand, the evolution of a revolution that was about to sweep across America like an out of control wildfire; the domestic cultivation of high-grade strains of marijuana. Over the years, residing in California, Illinois, and at least a dozen points in-between, has allowed Vinnie unique access to literally dozens of small, medium, and large-scale outdoor growers. This access has allowed him to observe and learn many of their most closely guarded, insider “trade” secrets, tactics, and and covert techniques, which allow these growers to harvest huge, outdoor crops, year after year, in complete safety and secrecy.
