not much at first, point a fan at your soil and allow it to dry out more between waterings, usually you get knats from your soil not being allowed to dry out. you can also put a layer of sand on top of soil, they hate that.

you dont need alot of room if you are already growing. you can leave the male in your veg area and only segregate him when his balls are swollen and about to burst.
