Approach to DWC for newbies like me

I guess like all truths, they're only true within certain boundaries. I was trying to say that giving a 2 week old plant 500ppm in the res isn't going to make things move in the direction you might be hoping for! Any more than throwing 1,000 PPFD at it will help to move it out of seedling stage...

Approach to DWC for newbies like me

Personally I went with Apera Instruments and they even come with pots of calibration solution. I find every 4 weeks ppm will still be accurate +/- 30ppm, and the pH meter is accurate +/- 0.1-0.2

Nutrients - keep it simple. Start with 50% of the recommended dose. I kept it simple with GH Flora Trio - gives you better control over macros. If using RO, you may find yourself needing a little cal mag at some stage in the grow. I tried using liquid silicon, fulvic acid, Canna Rhizotonic...

Approach to DWC for newbies like me

I did look into Kratky, and I actually think there's nothing wrong with considering it at seedling stage before transfering to DWC (tried it in one of my experiments). However, you'd only want to do that for a short amount of time because the longer the roots when you transplant, the more likely...

Rule #5: (Tied equally with rule #4) Daily diaries aren’t just a ‘nice-to-have’ It’s often suggested that you keep a daily diary. This is usually offered merely as a suggestion, but I’m telling you – for a newbie, it’s essential. Especially if you’re abiding by rule 4. If you’re still...

Approach to DWC for newbies like me

I’m expecting most finders of this post to respond with a simple TL;DR! In fact it’s so long that I’m having to post it in two parts, as I’ve exceeded the character limit in posts. If anyone is familiar with Myers Briggs personality tests, I’m a classic INTP. This is normally talked about in...

    Timing dilemma

My intention was always for this to be a loft project, but sadly, I just don't have the height clearance... and that's with a 1.6m tall tent. I only intend to live in my house for another year before moving, and either a decent attic or space for a 'shed' are my top priorities. Really want to...

    Timing dilemma

I wasn't sure what a blumat was til I looked it up... doesn't look like it's designed for dwc? Or am I missing something?

    Timing dilemma

Sorry for jumping the gun and misreading what you were saying in your post... as you can gather I'm a total noob, and had no idea bonsai pruning was a growing technique!

    Timing dilemma

First rot was due to trying bennies instead of sterile. Switched to sterile, no more rot. Defoliated heavily so there was less mass for the roots to support... plant bounced back in a week Last weekend, rot returned. I trimmed back the bigger foliage yet again which is why it's still looking...

    Timing dilemma

Thanks for the advice - will just pack it up for now. Was going to do a 48hr dark for transition, and I have Flora Ripen to speed the ending too. It's Legendary OG Punch - supposed to be an 8 week flowerer, which fits my schedule. Thought even if I got half an ounce it would be better than...

    Timing dilemma

Hi folks, Long story short, I've got the in-laws coming to visit mid July. I figured that switching to 12/12 today would give me enough to to complete the harvest (wish I could veg a week or 2 longer), but it leaves me no time to hang, dry and cure. So I had a thought and I have no idea how...

Is this one a lost cause?

Thanks all. Have a cupboard full of crap I've bought in the last 8 months. Regen-a-root (am pretty sure there's nothing in it, despite hydro shop guy assuring me it was amazing. 1ml/l adds exactly 7ppm, and no perceivable difference to root health). Fulvic acid, which from what I can tell is...

Is this one a lost cause?

Thanks... I just wondered whether proteins counted as organisms, enzymes being proteins

Is this one a lost cause?

My worry is - that sludgy root stuff is going to rot out. If the pool shock is enough to stop that turning back into rot which affects everything else again, I'm happy to live with it. If it's better to remove with enzymes so all potential future issues are removed sooner, I'll do that instead...
