It makes some difference in what you use. The real potential is, when and how much to use. Get some grows under your belt, sell your buddies some, and then worry about buying the highend stuff.

If you want to speed up your compost pile i think if you put urea on it and then water it that speeds up the decomposition.

I go to agway and get there composted cow manure and use that as a top dressing. It works and hasn't burned my plants yet. Just my 2 cents.

Just went to H T G you can get a big bag of worm castings for 20 bucks, maybe i'm just lazy

I just got a 20 pound bag of urea 0-46-0 at agway for 15$. It might be a little safer than pissing on your plants

make sure your hooking up the right volt to the ballast. Some ballast are multi tap and CAN use diff. volts
