does cloning a plant that is a month old put stress on it?

please respond to this, i am really in need of some help here. My plants are about a month old and they are looking beautiful and healthy. i don't know if they are old enough to take a clipping from? how old must they be to take a clipping and determine its sex? and also how long will it take...
