Mold for sure...too much moisture and humidity,bet it smells funny as well...you should try and root pruned it gently,clean it,and replant in bigger pot,preferably fabric pot,also you may use a little baking soda with water and spray around base of pot,add a little 3%h202

I found black deer netting was called,at Lowe's,it's 7ft tall and has like one inch squares made out of plastic,it was cheap I got 100 ft for less than 60 bucks,works well
