Run it thru a light dimmer , a ceiling fan speed controller or comparable 110 controller.

From my years of experience you got what you got, too late to fert. Try again next year and read all you can here and other sites or buy a good book on outdoor growing. Too late to pull a rabbit out of the hat.

It will fire up the bulb but the bulb will burn out very quick, learned that hard way several years ago. You need a 500W bulb for a 500W ballast.
