Both of my vacuums have black nozzles/tubes. Not sure there are any clear tubes available for them - what brand do you have? I saw that they were running around to the other side of the stems and did try blocking them with my hand - I did a little better with that. I guess like with anything...

Update: I can see what these f'ers are doing to the plants - they secrete "honeydew" which then promotes development of a black sooty mold. I saw that on one lower leaf on one plant yesterday. I'm in the lower Hudson Valley in New York. I just put sticky yellow cards throughout the growing area, but a vacuum sounds brilliant! I will definitely try that. Do more keep coming back after vacuuming or does the population seem to be limited?

Thanks for replying. I did see some gnat-like bugs at one point but I can't say if they were fungus gnats or these things. I don't see them now. Didn't see anything around the roots themselves. We've ordered something akin to a BT type product - see if it helps. Hopefully my plants will be OK!

Does anyone know what ratio fulvic acid to water is ideal for kick starting some old seeds? I read that it can help but I cannot find the appropriate ratio. Thanks in advance for any advice!

OK automate - I do have a pet sitter coming to take care of my cats, and she will water in the greenhouse, but I'm not sure I want her to see what I'm growing. Then again, when I go away the end of April, she'll be taking care of my crop of summer seedlings which I grow next to tomato seedlings...
