    Spotted lantern fly infestation

Regards the vacuum - my growing area is pretty far from my house - I'd need to run a bunch of extension cords. But it's something to consider. (We have hoses that reach down there so...) I found a hand vac on Amazon that has a clear body so to speak and has a clear tube attachment so I'm going...

    Spotted lantern fly infestation

Both of my vacuums have black nozzles/tubes. Not sure there are any clear tubes available for them - what brand do you have? I saw that they were running around to the other side of the stems and did try blocking them with my hand - I did a little better with that. I guess like with anything...

    Spotted lantern fly infestation

Update: I can see what these f'ers are doing to the plants - they secrete "honeydew" which then promotes development of a black sooty mold. I saw that on one lower leaf on one plant yesterday. I now see it on another plant - or I'm just looking more carefully. The yellow sticky cards were a bust...

    Spotted lantern fly infestation

I don't know what damage they do and yes they aren't caterpillars or hemp borers (more of an end of season issue) but I don't want them on my plants! I only saw a few last year and didn't bother with them and nothing bad happened. But they are proliferating and I know they are a problem with the...

    Spotted lantern fly infestation

I'm in the lower Hudson Valley in New York. I just put sticky yellow cards throughout the growing area, but a vacuum sounds brilliant! I will definitely try that. Do more keep coming back after vacuuming or does the population seem to be limited?

    Spotted lantern fly infestation

I saw a ton of these on my outdoor plants this morning. I had a few last summer but this is ridiculous. I can't see any damage to the stems - at least not yet - but I am very worried. I can kill one here and there but there's just too many of them to make a difference. If anyone knows what kind...

    Soil ph pen?

I don't, but thanks for the advice. Having some weird nutrient deficiency issues this year that I've never seen before and was curious if my soil pH is off.

    Soil ph pen?

Does anyone know of a good soil pH tester that won't set me back $300?

    Rice root aphids?

Thanks for replying. I did see some gnat-like bugs at one point but I can't say if they were fungus gnats or these things. I don't see them now. Didn't see anything around the roots themselves. We've ordered something akin to a BT type product - see if it helps. Hopefully my plants will be OK!

    Rice root aphids?

I was planting some of my girls outside and noticed something really weird about the roots in a few of them. Also, these plants were showing some yellowed leaves and I thought I might have a nutrient deficiency such as phosphorous, and was thinking they were just getting too root bound and...

    Fulvic acid to aid germination

Does anyone know what ratio fulvic acid to water is ideal for kick starting some old seeds? I read that it can help but I cannot find the appropriate ratio. Thanks in advance for any advice!

    Auto Update

OK automate - I do have a pet sitter coming to take care of my cats, and she will water in the greenhouse, but I'm not sure I want her to see what I'm growing. Then again, when I go away the end of April, she'll be taking care of my crop of summer seedlings which I grow next to tomato seedlings...

    Auto Update

Thanks for your reply. I'm going to guess they've been flowering about 4 weeks - there's another smaller plant in front of this one that looks a little bit ahead of the bigger one. As is normal with my summer outdoor plants, the tops are more orange than further down and more are pistols are...

    Auto Update

I am obviously not an indoor grower, but I did try starting some autos back in December with a pretty paltry result. However, I did put up some better grow lights and the plants have definitely picked up. Now my dilemma is that I'm going on a trip from March 23-29 which is less than 2 weeks...
