I think its more about Lumens than Watts lol. You need more watts with CFLs to get the same amount of Lumens that you would get from 1 HID light.

Yea i found that CFLs work great for vegging, cause they dont need all the extra lumens for buds, then slam em under a hps, and the results are 5xs better than cfls. And all those cfls create more heat as opposed to a single HID light. Pluss with all those CFLs, your would probable save...
