Im using a 70 litre per miniute pump spread amoung x3 containers (38 litres water ea) then are long and kind of wide so its hard to cover svery spot with air (reason i have more then 1 air stone) Some pics below per container)

I am using tap water, i will experiment with distilled water as i have that on hand if my other expérimentés fail. Ive use de chloronated tap water with same results... I am working on both the rise in ph and the smell.

I ran a couple small tests already and the hydroton is causong the ph swings . but i woll comfrim that tommorow as its still in testing to make sure. Happy easter
