Yellowing leaves

I got a few plants in soil in my closet, which i recently put under a 400W MH. The leaves were very light in color about 2 weeks ago, i thought this was a nitrogen def, so i started feeding with the fertilizer pictured below. A few of the leaf tips started curling, i thought this may have been a Potassium def, and i assumed the fertilizer would fix this also since it has N & K. Since i started feeding, the plants have grown alot and have a much darker green color in the leaves. A week after feeding, the yellow around the leaf edges did not recover, so i guessed that maybe i needed to increase sulfur. so i watered twice in the last week with full strength veg fert with 2 tsp of espom salt per gallon of water. As you can see from the pics, this has not helped either. At this point im confused and now im worried that i may be suffering from a manganese toxicity because some leaves have a few rusty spots. Could i have added too much espom salt? And they have been on 24/0 since birth and i have also been feeding superthrive since birth. Please let me know what you think. Thanks :peace:

humm.... i thought they recover? guess not, but its early in the grow anyway, just want to rebound before i flower. So you mean to say that the yellow around the edges will never recover, just new leaves will not have the same problem if i fixed the def??

come on, i know this is quite a common problem, someone knows

YEP... I know EXACTLY what your problem is because I had the same exact leaf problem myself using the exact same nutes.... only mine was worse then yours before I figured it out.

Are you closely monitoring your PPM when feeding?

Here's the deal.... the ProBlend nutes feeding instructions on the package are WRONG! My tap water is approx. 350 - 400 PPM straight out of the faucet... when I used the nutes (even at 1/2 strength) the PPM shot up to 1800+ (which is WAY too high for young plants in early veg).

At first I wasn't monitoring my PPM so I couldn't figure out what the problem was... but I had the same leaf problems you do. I learned how to monitor my PPM and stopped using the package instructions. Now I've got the problem under control.

You need to flush your plants good to get the build up out.... after a few days with no nutes.... start introducing the nutes again... but prepare the solution using a PPM meter and build up slowly... I'd suggest no more then 900 PPM (maybe even less as they are recovering)... then gradually work your way up.

If you don't have a PPM meter then get one PRONTO.... it's really necessary for Hydro growing.

EDIT: I re-read your post and see you are using Soil not hydro.... I still think the nutes concentration is the problem and still think you need a PPM meter to accurately feed your babies.

Now... about that PureBlend Pro problem.... I know this to be the issue because I found this on the Green Coast Hydro site listed with the product:

PLEASE NOTE:
Many hydroponic growers have begun noticing a problem with the feeding chart/directions on the PureBlend Pro bottles. If you follow their directions you will find that the strength of your solution is way too high. It is best to monitor the PPM in your solution. Find out what your plant needs & keep your solution at that level, or maybe just a little higher. ... If you don't have a way of monitoring your solution, we HIGHLY reccomend getting a meter....

I've provided a link so you can verify yourself... Pure Blend Pro

Good luck...I hope your babies recover :D

First of all Thanks man!! i knew i was overlooking something and i knew they were only getting worse. I will flush ASAP. My only question is exactly what is PPM measuring? i know its Parts Per Million, but of what? ill give you time to answer but for now, i must flush. i will also grab that meter after work tommrow, looks like it runs about 100 bux. Thanks again!!

You might not need to spend the money on a meter.... I get the impression most soil growers aren't too concerned with measuring PPM... more just with the PH level. You can get a cheapie PH meter at wal-mart for like $8.

Anyway... now that you know there's a problem with the feeding instructions on the ProBlend nutes bottles you might just consider saving yourself the 100 bucks and flushing your plants good with PH correct water and then just cut the amount of nutrients you are using down to 1/4 of what the label says.

PPM is essentially the concentration of the nutrients (salts)... again... I'm getting the impression it's a bigger deal for hydroponic growers (which I am) then soil growers. Maybe someone else can chime in here about it.

The one thing I am certain of ..... is the problem with the ProBlend feeding instructions.

Good luck
