I surrender! The spidermites win this round!

After treating numerous times and ways and the infestation is just getting worse.:finger:

I'm going to concede defeat for this round. We both put up a good fight, but I must abmit these spidermites are one deadly opponent.:cuss:

We are going to harvest what we can and focus on sterilizing and sealing our grow room in preperation for our next batch,:leaf:

We'll get a few tasty nugs out of our first batch which is cool for some bagseed.:bigjoint:

But whats really worth it is we are TONS wiser and we have learned MUCH about our enemy and they better watch out, cuz the Buddha is ready for WAR!!

MUCH THANKS TO ROLLITUP FOR ALL THE KNOWLEDGE AND TECH SUPPORT!!!! ROLLITUP RULEZ!!!!

Just regroup! ;-) Lot's of folks have been hit by the BORG of insects, Spidermites and feel your pain. Surrender IS NOT an option. Fight the lil beaties to the very end. Lots of good tips in this thread and my personal method has worked for me.

Here's what I have used with good results!

Spider mites SUCK! If you have them on one plant chances are they are on all of them. So very small and difficult to see unless you use a loupe or magnifier(at least for me anyways). I had one harvest *almost* get ruined by the critters and then I fought back with technology...and won! I did not want to use any chemicals on my ladies so close to harvest, and ended up using...STEAM!:fire:

Bought a Rowenta steamer from Bed Bath &Way Beyond and it worked like a charm! Best way is to do this somewhat *safely* is to water your plants, wait an hour and then hit the plants EVERYWHERE with the steam. You cannot concentrate the steam in any one area for too long or you'll cook the poor plant!:leaf: The neat thing about this is the temperature. The mites simply crumble and die as soon as the hot steam hits them! Again you HAVE to be careful or you'll cause more harm than good, but if you pay attention to what your doing, you can do this! After you have hit all areas thoroughly, let your ladies rest for 1-2 days then hit em again. The live mites die easily but the eggs may still hatch (nasty things). If you cannot control the mites after 3 steam treatments, you should abandon ship and chop em down, sorry. Good luck and let us know how you faired in this time of crisis.

you need to bleach your entire grow room between each harvest. good cleanliness is the best preventative

Wow.....I'd have never thought of steam...I've been battling those little plant suckers forever it seems.......... I was thinking of testing ABF's thought of CO2ing them to death with massive overdose of gas and the room sealed, but I was worried the plants might drop dead too so I'm leary......another method I heard of is raising humidity to extreme levels for an extended period but fear of rot prevents me from trying that.

I've been keeping them in check using Azatrol and Volck oil and should hit 'em with diatom power as well....but I never get rid of them......as soon as I take a break in the battle, they come back with a vengence. I swear sometimes hitting them with a pesticide just pisses them off and they do as much damage as they can before it kills them..... I refuse to use anything in bloom since as long as they aren't showing damage at that point they'll finish before the bugs win...which I'm sure isn't helping my eradication efforts.......but this could work in any stage so maybe you've made the greatest discovery in the history of indoor growing.........
How do you judge how much to steam them and how long? Like do you use your hand to tell you when it's too hot?? It'd still be a helluva chore in my garden...but if it works it'd be worth it............
At the very least I'm gonna rep you for coming up with a new idea I never heard of or even considered......the battle will still go on, but at least I'd be able to take a break once in a while......

our grow room is an unfinished closet... by unfinished I mean we have parts of the wall with no sheet rock, there are massive spaces between the sheet rock thats there and the seam and there is no door...
we are going to seal it up nice and tight and then sterilize before next grow.
thanks tho!

Spidermites are the disease...I'M the cure!
The best way I found was to count:

Start a left to right sweep with the steamer wand and count to 1 second- One thousand -One ...THEN move the steam to another area. As i stated you cannot stay in any one area too long or you'll cause undue heat damage. You may notice a bit of burn or chaffing along some leaf edges after 2-3 treatments in a few days, but consoder the alternative. I have visited and saved 6 others grows personally with my method and we also sterilize our pots, all containers and veg racks with steam...it WORKS!

Think about it- STEAM is hotter than boiling water, that's why it rises as a vapor. If ANYONE here thinks spidermites, whitefiles or others can survive tempertaures hotter than boiling water...well, you need help. ;)

Damn thats an awesome idea... +rep to you sir. Just a quick question for any of you guys that have gotten spider mites though. Are all of you growing in soil? A lot of different bug problems and deficiencies come from a lot of soil growers and I tend to see less problems with hydroponics. Is this a coincindence or is there a reason behind it?

gotta go with dopeytripod. whole reason i started lurking here was a horrible infestation of mites. treid a lot of things, including changing my behaviors (leaving shoes outside the room, being OCD about cleaning, etc) but the sure thing was the no-pest strips. just dont use them if your room is in your house. you dont want to breathe that all the time.
i almost hate to post his but has anyone ever thought about rigging a microwave to work with the door open? having said that, i will not be held responsible for anyones blindness. or worse.

so a guy on the thread turned me onto BUHACH powder...

it has that pyrenthis or whatever it is in it...

you can sprinkle it around...

or you can put it in an empty tunafish can, and lite it... and it smoulders like insense or something.

the fumes paralyze the bugs i guess, killing them.

i just got the stuff, and used it last night...

i have been using aza as well.

i plan on lighting it every night for the next 8 days straight... that way, all die, and then their hatched eggs die.

we will see how it works.:wall:

if not, ill use hot shots.. even if it kills me too

NO place does it say to use around the kitchen let alone around vegetables...

I with you dude... the azamax is the last time I'll use chemical warfare. There are just too many other ways to treat.

Here's a kick ass one that I ill definatly use when all else fails.
