Sap & Brown lumps on stems, disease?

I fist noticed this with a female that I was keeping as a backup mother. She wasn't needed so I sent her to flower. But before I that, I noticed she had sticky sap droplets on the lower leaves. I found that the sap was coming from brown dots that were forming along the main "trunk" of the plant. It seems that the bumps would grow and then open up, allowing sap to drip out.

I continued to observe this plant and saw that over time the dots were spreading up the plant and onto many of the branches. So I decided to flower the plant rather than trash it. But it died while in flowering. Note: Excessive heat may have been a leading factor in the plants death. One day I saw many of its leaves had dried out and even became charred! The next day the leave where all dead. So the plant was dead.

So then I went to my newest mothers, located in close proximity to the flowering cabinet, and to my horror saw that one of them had the same bumps! Over time these bumps spread up the plant and onto the other mothers. I plan to flower them before the apparent disease progresses.

What is this? Should I cut away the brown sappy bumps? Are clones I took from a diseased mother destined to the same fate? Please help, I can't find anything about this on google.

Due to our irrational legal system I will be unable to provide any photos. :(

So nobody has ever seen anything like this? Brown lumps, filled with sap, spreading over time across the plant. This has got to be disease, but what? And how to treat it? Do I cut off the lumps as my friend suggests?
