UVB Light, does it work?

I watched the video on UVB by marijuana man, good stuff.

I wonder though how much is need of this uvb and does it really work like he mentioned?

I bought a 26w Repti Glo light that is primarily 270nm-400nm in wavelenth, and 6700K.

How well do these work as far as strengthening and converting cbn's to THC.

So whats the deal on them, if there a waist i'll save my money and take it back.

How long should i use this during flowering? 3-4hrs each day during the peak of time??

TIA

Will try to find it. I origonally got the 2.0 but it had noooooo 270-400nm waves, or very little, so i took it back and got the 5.0 which has considerably more wavelengths in the 270-400nm range. Where marijuana man suggests for the UVB.

Exo Terra - Products: Compact Bulbs

Thats the page, i found them at Petsmart.

The one i got was the 5.0, tropical, which has a nice 270-400nm wavelenths, as well as wavelength output graphs. Not sure if i should have gotten the 10.0 but it was $5, more and the 5.0 was $16. The difference of them is the visible spectrum and UV power%. The 2.0 has nothing considereable below 500nm, the 5.0 has alot more, not realyl sure if i should have gotten the 10.0 for desert enviroment over the tropical.

Also the fact that there CFL fixtures and work in any ballast for regular lights.

Just wondering how long a day i should leave it on and if its actually doing anything for me. Lights are seperated from plants by Plexiglass, i figure the plexi isnt taking anything away as tanning booths use plexi to shield skin from the burn, and keep the skin 4-5" from the lights.

Its positioned at the top of my box with the lights on. Temp is still at 82F after 30mins with it on.

Hope we can get a good discussion on this topic, as i'd love to harvest some extreemly potent herb off of CFL's and i think UVB may be the way to go.

Really wondering depending on strain if UVB would make the herb better or what, if a sativa dominant, which is already high in THC is done with UVB would it make it that much stronger, and for the body high, the CBN's would it make a indica dominant, more trippy, converting more CBN's over to THC......?I guess depening on tric colors you could do that too, but i wonder if uvb would do what to what?

Haha well thanks. I read alot.

I dun really know much more about it, hopeing someone will add more. Anyway a few more useful links...

I found some threads on other forums about it, And the comparison or if it even works with high altitude areas, Lack of oxygen during inhalation which leads to you feeling more stoned, but no concrete evidence that uvb even works.

Another thread mentioned that highest uvb during 11am-4pm. I'll have to get another timer to use it. Testing out the light fixture to see if it worked i had it on all of about 5 seconds, my eyes hurt. Its similar to looking into a welding arc without protection. It will also give you a sunburn if not careful, so do be careful with the UVBs.

EDIT: AFter more reading 300-315nm is preferred, looks like i may take the one i have, the 5.0 back and get the 10.0 desert one. Has something like 2x as much UVB at 315nm as the Tropical 5.0 light i have. and considerably more below 310nm.

hey man I just picked up the 10.0 bulb its the dessert version from my pet store about 5 days ago. I am 3 weeks into flower and I just leave it on the whole time durring 12/12. I have 5 plants but only 1 is getting the uvb. Its directly pointed about 2" away. Havent seen any tric development on them yet but they are still young. Have you found anything new about your bulb? there is a little more in my journal. let me know if you figure anything out and ill do the same

The idea is to simulate the UVB from the sun. Outside the UVB levels peak at mid day. I am running my UVB for 4 hours each day in the middle of the 12 hour light cycle. I don't have any scientific measurement but I would say that it has increased the amount of trichomes compared to the last grow.
