First Micro Grow

First off, I know I've been talking about doing a hydro HID ScrOG closet, but for the time being, my grow location is unavailable

So, my new grow area is going to be a 1'x1x2'4" chest, in my closet. I'm still waiting on my LSD seeds from Attitude, which still aren't in the US according to USPS, after 8 days but i digress... I'm thinking of combining a 90w UFO with a few CFLs, as a compromise after hearing all the pros and cons of LED alone, yeah?

Also, if it all possible, I'd like to ScrOG still, just cause I absolutely LOVE the idea of it

as far as ventilation goes, I want it to be as silent, and scentless as possible, and I'm always game for a DIY rig.

So, expert growers and newer folk alike, what do you you all think?

Dude we have the same cab almost where are your pics im here to help buddy but i need pics. Just pulled a harvest off under my roommates nose he stood in front of my box couldn't smell anything. Im adding a scrubber for this grow tho if you know what growing herb smells like and wet soil then you could smell and know what i was doing in the room just couldn't place where the plants were at and you would never guess in a little wooden box. Ive showed 1 person and she had no idea and she spent a day in the room with the lights on in the box fans going and everything Stealth is the shizznat. im like 17 1/2 x 18 x 29 1/2 tallest plant was 17 inches and i harvested 12 plants in the box got over a zip and a half dry and over 5 grams of pure trics off my trim that was with some white widow bagseed unknown male and unknown breeder of the white widow. Now im going with breeder seeds and one plant scrog i know if i do it right i cant get a quarter pound easy out of my box. Also i've been thinking about a HPS for budding and think i found 2 that will fit my box. Before you pop any beans you need to make sure your box is up and running and doing all the right things and shit i would do a bagseed grow in the box first even if you dont get a harvest it will give you A LOT of knowledge that s what i did but ended up with a harvest and i was mean a sin to them bent them this way and that way cut that off cut this off just had fun with them trying new things with everyone. I think i spent hundreds of hours reading online and looking at products so i have endless ideas lets set this bitch up and get you some dank to smoke!!!!!!

it's going to go as described above, except no UFO, only CFL, LST before the ScrOG, and I'm only going to do one LSD seed and one 'homegrown fantaseed' Armageddon, so I can save my good seeds for later! both flower around the same time, so I have a good feeling about this grow!

aslo, what do you think of these "smart pots"? the flexible root aerating ones

I've been curious about them myself but only found one that i really liked. Its the one that plastic and kinda looks like a pineapple I'll try to find a link for you. You need intake and exhaust also what kinda CFL are you going to run? I had to have my fans just right to keep under 80 with 8 26 watt cfls going and if it was summer during grow there would be no freaking way. When i rebuild im going to upgrade everything well i can add another 2 fans to my vent system or i might even put the two i have on intake and scrub my exhaust its all a give and take game start small and work your way up to big things i can't wait to start the build just low on funds at the moment....Also i thought about a LED but i have used CFL for a WHOLE grow and i have used HPS for the WHOLE grow add the two together and your gonna grow some nock you dick in the dirt bomb ass smoke Dont get me wrong i've read goo results from led but can you change the bulb when it starts to go or after a few harvest. You can get a HPS 150 watt for like 70 bucks or a better one for 100 the led run like 100 up to 200 for a good 90 watt you have to make sure your not buying junk some aren't the right spectrum or something is bogus i read it before but that was like last year cant remember but i will be looking into LED and have been all today thats how i found your thread. I hella hit my bong hard and i just harvested so im way lit and i ramble when i blaze hahahaha its some good ass homegrown.

Alright! i finally got the photos ready! sorry it took so long I've been baked off my ass all day, and finally got around to it now haha
so heres the growbox I'll be using


the closed box, sitting in the closet


the inside of the box, including a space on the door where an oscillating fan,
and two shelves for the fertilizers and garden supplies will go


finally, the actual box space, where two plants will sit under a 6" elevated screen, and four CFLs will go up top. also, a passive intake w/ a filter will go in the bottom left hand corner, and an exhaust fan with w/ a filter in the top right. finally a small hole in the bottom right for the power cables [how can i seal this up, to avoid any smell, or worse fungi/pests?]

I'm planning on painting the entire interior flat white, after all the cutting etc, as well as putting weather/draft stripping to seal all the cracks, and the door

got a lot of shit done today, since it's my day off! I bought all my supplies, painted and installed the intake/exhaust into the box, and received my first set of seeds in the mail

here's my girls freshly planted, waiting to germ they just came out of a quick RO H20 soak, to get things started!

So I've been doing some dry runs with the grow box, and it seems that using my current setup [using 4 26w CLFs] is running as high as 110* F what can i do to bring the heat down??

intake is a 4" desk fan from walmart w/ a carbon filter, roughly 20cfm, while the intake is a 6" hepa/carbon filter. I might have figured out a way to fix it, by using ice inside the box. it kinda serves to purposes: heat reduction and added humidity. what do you think?

I had the same problem with my mini fridge grow. i just used a bigger exhaust fan to "suck" fresh air in, and i also built a hood for my cfls and attached 4in dryer ducting with a computer fan in it to exhaust the heat from the lights. About a week ago i was up in the 90s nearly 100 and now i'm down to 77-85 ish. You can also put frozen water bottles in there. I've toyed with the idea of using dry ice in a tray above the lights to cool them and provide CO2. but i couldnt find much on it and I was happy with my temps. hope this helps.

You need something like my exhaust and intake if your going to run more then 2 in that box. Just get pc fans 80mm would work but you have to check the CFM you'll need two fans with at least 40 CFM with filters and 90CFM with those filters. The ice would be a pain in the ass and you dont want to have to watch them 24/7 its fun but gets old you want the box to run by itself monitor the temp itself and so on. They make PC fan controllers that monitor and run multiple fans get a wireless temp reader for in the box have the fan controller on the outside along with the wireless temp reader so you can adjust the fans and watch the temp inside the box. They have a 3 way temp monitor that is wireless so you put on in the top of the box one in the bottom and one in the outside room also i found flat panel heaters that dont get to hot to touch could put one in for winter growing so you dont have to run your heat in your house at night If you want humidity that make a repifogger i believe thats what its called but its a fogger made for reptiles that require a more tropical environment endless ideas but the ice wont cut it my man.

@Respect the Herb: dry ice does seem theoretically pretty smart, but also HELLA expensive and I'm basically doing the frozen water now, until I find a more permanent solution

@Slim Jim: comp fans seem like the way to go, from here, but how loud are they? cause I really would like something that you couldn't hear from behind a closet door. I think I'm going to have to stick w/ the ice for now, until wednesday cause that's my next day off :/ also, I currently have a temp/humid monitor, with a cable probe attached, but it's taped to the wall inside the box. I guess on wed. when i do an overhaul, I can switch it to read on the outside! gonna have to make due till then though...

I have roommates and their room is on the other side of my closet wall my box is in my closet. Do you have a desktop or laptop cuz if you have a desktop run it while the box is running you wont hear shit coming out of the closet bro i know what you mean about stealth noise control for me and odor control is a fn must. Check the CFM and the DB if its under 30DB you wont hear shit and you can play tith the setup to kill even more noise like anti vibration screws making a light trap on the outside ot the box like a little box to cover the holes. Also when the plant grows you will most likely have to change your box to suit the plant meaning with a plant in the box the way the air moves and shit changes and sometimes heat will build in spots of the box so you have to change the position of something to fix it. Check out coolerguys.com thats where i got my system super fast shipping and great to do biz with!!!! Also double sided tape and emergency blankets work the best for reflective covering after you paint to seal the box and wood.Hmmm what else oh your going to want to raise the plant to within a couple inches of those CFL bulbs and lower it as the plant grows or its going to stretch like none other and you will end up with fluffy nuggets. Also you want to flower probably after the 3 week of 24/7 but if you top and LST you can make it to maybe week 8 veg before switch to 12/12 but remember they stretch the first 2 weeks of 12/12 and double size so a good way to measure would be to remove whatever you use to raise the pot/plant to the bulbs and put the plant on the bottom of the box once it fills up half the box its time to flip to 12/12 or you WILL run out of space you can tie down branches but could get into trouble if you wait to long to flower. I said if you top and lst you can veg longer but you will have to control the height of the plant training it almost like a Japanese maple making the branches flow down and out then wait till there is alot of secondary growth off those branches and flip or put the screen in " if SOG or SCROG" and fill the screen out then flip to 12/12. I might just do and lst job on my next grow but i have my heart set of scrogin soon but i want to see what my yield will be like with one plant LST then i will see what my yield is like with Scrog. Also for added light you should check out strip flouros they make them so you can link then together so you could put 4 in the box one in each corner running from top to bottom for side lighting Oh i found my emergency blankets on Amazon for 12 for 12 hahaha and free shipping so i paid a buck for each one and its enough to box my box twice with one blanket so like 5 years of growing in my box for 12 bucks hahaha yeah buddy i do alot almost ALL my shopping off amazon and always look for FREE SHIPPING find a item you like then watch the price and find it the cheapest with free shipping alot of the times it will be a slightly higher price then the rest but if you do the math it cost more to get the cheaper item and pay for shipping then pay a little more and get it free shipping

thanks for the recommend to cooler guys, I've got everthing I need! I now have a 120mm fan [20dB!] that runs into a temp controller [set to keep temps below 86F], and the coversion plug for it! I'm excited to fix the box on wednesday! my grow would really off to a really bad start without your help! I appreciate it!

I started the remodel of my box today almost have the first coat of paint finished freaking got a miagane so i had to stop. I also finnaly got my hands on some power tools so im cutting out my intake tomorrow and finishing the painting if my f'd shoulders hold up I placed insalation foam its about 3/8 wide doulbed sided sticky crap around the fan mount to go between the fan mount and box to take some of the vibration noise out. I use power strips/surge protectors along with socket to outlet or i might have that backwards outlet to socket plugs it allows you to use light bulbs in a normal power outlet like you find on your wall or said power strip. Im Also running Y socket adapters that allow you to run two bulbs in one socket. Im running a 4 bulb setup on two power strips and im going to mount them toward the top on the side of the box so the bulbs are sideways also my exhaust fan is equal height as the bulbs so it will suck the ehat right of the left side bulbs. Im going to do some dry runs after i get it all together again to see what kinda temps i can keep in the box and if needed im going to add another exhaust fan i like the cooler guys 120mm that comes with a mount it will plug right into my controller as i can run up to four fans Been thinking about a sunburst 150watt HPS to throw in the box for added light when flowering so then i would for sure have to upgrade my fans to 4. Stop by tomorrow i am going to post pics on my thread its my sig. Also im in no way trying to steal your thread just trying to give you ideas ive spent hundreds of hours reading and looking at items so any knowledge i can pass on im happy too! Also i thought about that very setup your talking about post pics when it u put it in the box
