Good evening Ladies and Gentleman, and all children of the age of majority and consent, welcome to Duchies Little Big Top!:clap::clap: I've been planning and scheming now for some time getting ready to step up my game and share it with all of you at RIU. Well this weekend the Little Big Top arrived and I'm ready to show what I've done, what I'm doing now and what's in store. So step right up and take a seat if you will and I'll do everything I can to keep you entertained. Please be patient while I build up the show here, I have lot's to setting up to do but it shouldn't take too long to catch up.

So what's my story? Well I don't want to lose you before you even get settled in but basically I'm a dude who is getting on in life and is tired of the crap I've been consuming over that past years. I've moved to new lands and don't know as many people as I used to so I'm very limited and even when I do land something it's usually low grade or...you know. Anyway I had 6 bagseed and got real curious one day. I took 3 of them and was able to crack 2 under some cfl bulbs and went from there. Those two grew real well and were healthy but they ended up being males. I sunk the other 3 in pellets and got 1 to pop, and a Princess was born. I grew her successfully to harvest, under a couple hundred watts of cfl, and yielded a couple ounces or so, but I plucked her too soon and the rush was very good but very short lived. Anyway I was able to grab a cutting from Princess in her third week of flower and out of her was born this ugly duckling, Princess B. Just like the story though, she grew up to be a beautiful swan. So I did what any good father would do and I spoiled her with a very luxurious 600 watt HPS tanning bed. Well she just loved that and still can't get enough of it, showing me more and more of her swelling buds more and more everyday. So again, I did what any good Daddy would do and I bought her a really nice condo made of the finest material and fabric. Now all she has to do is laze around, basking in the glorious light, showing me more and more as I feed her to her hearts content. But what she doesn't know yet is that her time is running out and I have some high class Dutch girls that will be moving in with her. Oh well, by the time she figures it out I'll have her kicked out. These Dutch girls are gonna be a top notch, class act I assure you. Anyway, enough of all that, let's get on with the show with the current star, Princess B. Today she has been flowering for 33 days. See how voluptuous she is. :eyesmoke::eyesmoke::eyesmoke:

Peace, Duchie. :peace:

Ahhh. I see we have a taker. Well step right up and I'll show you what's in my box.

2010-11-27 09.45.15.jpg

So the main attraction in here are my Jackhammers from Sannies. Bottom middle is my first girl and she popped her head 3 days after planting in peat. The two on the right both popped after 4 days, straight in the pot and soil mix. I had some issues with getting seeds to crack and I'll get into that later. So Jackhammer 1 is 20 days veg, and 2 and 3 are 2 days. As you can see 1 is topped, just today, using the UB way, above the 2nd node. The second one I will top after the third and number three after the 4th. They will all use some LSTing. These Jackhammers are a very sativa dominant hybrid of Sannies Jack and Amnesia. Also in the box I have a cutting from Princess B, taken 2 weeks into flower, and is showing good signs of new veg growth so I'm hopeful of her for another round of mystery strain. And for some spice, well herb really, a pinch of Basil. I like to cook and love the smell, what can I say. Should help with odor control too. :-P Finally down in the dome I have the top from the Jackhammer, and another Basil...ok already, yes I like Basil. And that sums up what's in my box. Would you like to share what's in yours???:mrgreen::mrgreen:

Pilgram. Thanks for stopping by. Hope you stick around for a bit.

Good morning RIU. I seem to be a much earlier riser since I started gardening and I don't mind it one bit. That is very rare for me. Anyway I'm just waiting for the garden to warm up a bit here and then maybe I'll try to get some new shots to post. I'm a little bummed though because I just got into photography last year and have a decent entry level Canon but I've lent it to a VERY close friend who has it somewhere else in the world on his honeymoon. So needless to say, I've had to use a basic digital cam to take update shots and, well I guess I've gotten a bit particular and snobbish about my pics lately, kinda like I'm getting about my garden. ;) In the meantime, I have some other pics that I've already posted on RIU but I'd like to get them up here for you and I will use them to tell a quick catch up story. I'll start from the first six beans.

So out of 6 I plant 3. Out of that I get these 2.

And they both ended up being male:wall:

Then I sunk the other 3 and only 1 made it out. Low and behold a Princess is born.

Alright, so here's Princess. She started in my little tote box vegger and was moved over to my other, larger, tote flowering box that had 200 watts of CFL. She grew really well and was getting frosty and sticky but I jumped the gun on her and chopped her down too soon. The initial rush on it was pretty good but like I've said before, very short lived. I thought the buds weren't too bad density wise by what I was hearing about CFL vs HPS, but I am now learning the true difference. You see, when Princess was three week into flower I grabbed a couple of cutting and one took really well and Princess B was born. OK so now I've successfully harvested my first grow, and Ive got another one coming up. I think it's time to step it up.:bigjoint:

OK. Here's some early shot's of B. Like I said she was cut 3 weeks into her mothers flowering. The bud shot is of some of my harvest from Princess and the lights are a DIY I did using license plates for reflectors. Very versatile. OK I think I'll order my 600 now. I've done the research and the math and for what I need the 600 is perfect and gives the best lumen bang for your buck. Next, my HPS find and some more pics of B.

Here's my light. I know it's not digital and the bulbs aren't the higher end brand name but I found it on eBay from a very local supplier and the price was just right. I got a 600W, 120v magnetic with a 600W Artemis HPS (Britemore Lighting) and a 600W XBrite (also Britemore) Dual Arc bulb and a basic aluminum batwing reflector, shipped for $215 all in. I set her up in my closet and put Princess B under her new tanning bed and she just started loving it and showing it almost right away. I was very happy. Time to get me some nice seeds now. :blsmoke:

So through the posts here on RIU I caught a conversation about Sannies seeds. I looked into it and was liking what I was seeing. Everything I was reading was positive. There was a lot of comments about how nice this guy is and how good a breeder he is. He seemed well respected. I got a feeling from a couple of things I read that he upset some people and they're not playing nice back, but I'm not sure what that's about. Either way I picked out my Jackhammer because I really wanted to get a good Sativa going right away, because after all that is why I decided to do this in the first place. Sannies gives freebies (5 seeds) with every order, so I picked Blueberry Indica X Jackberry, to have a shorter flowering Indica too. They were in my box in 8 days. Getting better all the time.

I've got the light and I've got the seed. Time to get busy but I hit some bumps on the way with getting some started. Here's where I'm at now. Out of the 5 BBIxJackberry none popped up. Out of the 10 Jackhammers I have 3 going and 4 stored, leaving 3 that didn't make it for a total of 8. I think when it came down to it I had two main issues. First I may have had the peat pellets too wet, but mostly I think it was a steady temp issue. I had times where the medium was cold, and then fluctuating back to warm. Even though the temp in the germ box was ideal, I think cold ambient temps underneath the box and in the air through the night was causing issues. My last attempt was starting straight in soil in a small starter pot, with a small dome I created from the base of clear water bottles. Both were standing up straight by day 4, side by side and I won't need to transplant again until I have a nice strong root system and the top is done and recovered. Yes, I did try the shot glass, in water thing to get a tap root, but I think for the same reason it wouldn't go. I did have tap roots start but they never came right out. Either way, I think I found MY way and I'll stick with it until I have some other, cheaper or free seeds that I can play with.

So what's growin on then at this point? Well again we've got Princess B flowering under the 600, I have Jackie A vegging nicely and Jackie B and C standing tall, all while the Little Big Top is on the way, cause this closet just isn't gonna do it. Right now I'm renting and everytime I tried to come up with a solution to a problem, it required mod's that I couldn't do, or left things too out in the open in case of visits, etc. So I found a deal on a tent too. Another eBay deal got me a 2 square meter (40"x40"x79") tent, with a rigid, easy push button snap frame with welded corners, for $160 all in and shipped, I have the one cheesy shot at the begging of the thread. To round off the show, I've got another cutting going that I took from B three weeks into her flower. So now production is starting to roll.

More pics!

Hey greenjambo, thanks for stopping by. Most definitely we can talk some green. I'm going to order the Extrema next week and get it going right away so it would be great to compare the same strains. And yes, I'm really happy with how Jackie a is turning out, and the Uncle Bens top is working real nice too. I just topped the other Jackies as well the same way. I'm finding that out of the three, in regards to strength and stamina I would have to rate them as A B and C being 1, 2, 3 respectively, with A being the smallest seed sprouting in 3 days as opposed the 4 for the other 2.

Hello RIU!

Well, this brings us to today. First of all I have to announce that Princess B decided to become Princess B He the other day at day 47. Yup, nanners in all buds and being a hermie virgin still, I got a little concerned but I calmed down and put her back in the tent. Jackie A isn't showing signs of sex yet so I have some time there and I'll deal with that then. P.C is showing a lot of pistils but I'm not to worried if she gets pollinated. Either way, I should be looking at some seeds to go along with my finely finished girl. Something I can play with later.

2010-12-11 09.58.04.jpg

2010-12-11 10.01.39.jpg2010-12-10 18.50.16.jpg2010-12-11 09.55.25.jpg2010-12-11 10.15.18.jpg2010-12-11 10.14.28.jpg
As you can see, I harvested the lower bud on her. I'm hoping to speed up the finish. It's starting to be smokeable now, and IS better than her mom already but I'm sure she's just getting ready for a Grand Finale.

On with the show. First, the main attractions under the Top. We've already seen P.B who's day 49 today. Let's have a look at the new main lady, Jackie A who's been under the Top for 11 days now and she's really stealing the show. The UB top is working out great. I don't know that I'm even going to have to do much tying down with this one.

2010-12-13 11.19.53.jpg2010-12-13 12.00.24.jpg2010-12-13 13.03.31.jpg2010-12-13 12.51.36.jpg2010-12-13 12.53.41.jpg2010-12-13 12.45.52.jpg2010-12-13 12.46.40.jpg2010-12-13 12.49.11.jpg2010-12-13 12.47.14.jpg2010-12-13 12.47.25.jpg2010-12-13 12.53.23.jpg

OK, so let's have a look at P.B's little girl P.C. She was plucked from her mommy when her mommy was 3 weeks into womanhood, just like her mommy was. She's holding on to her peculiar ugly duckling looks a little longer than her mom did. But I'm sure she'll turn out just as lovely. Very healthy and green and like Jackie A, she's been under the top for 11 days and she's not shy about showing herself at all. She's flashing pistils everywhere to all lookers.

2010-12-13 12.07.45.jpg2010-12-13 12.41.59.jpg2010-12-13 12.37.23.jpg2010-12-13 12.38.06.jpg2010-12-13 12.38.38.jpg

Well that's it for the Top so let's check out the Sideshow for the new and upcoming talent, Jackie A's fraternal sisters B and C. I've topped them just like their big sister but C didn't like it too well and took a while to bounce back from it but B is doing well but not as well as A did. She really is the star and she came from the smallest seed! As you can see, I've kept all the tops and hoping to root them. So far A's offspring seems to be doing good there with new growth happening. These girls have been vegging for 19 days now and should be good to go in a couple more weeks. I'm hoping they're gonna do all kinds of jumps, flips, leaps and bounds now and when they get under the top.

2010-12-13 12.57.46.jpg2010-12-13 12.56.20.jpg2010-12-13 12.57.54.jpg2010-12-13 12.56.35.jpg2010-12-13 12.56.55.jpg2010-12-13 12.58.02.jpg

I want to show you my little kindergarten technique that I'm trying out with some little Basils. Saw it in an article and thought I'd try it out. Getting the organic eggs for the carton was my idea, works like a charm. When you transplant you just crumble up the eggshell and supposedly the shell breaks up surprisingly quick.

2010-12-13 13.16.06.jpg2010-12-13 13.16.15.jpg

Next week I'm calling Sannies talent agency and booking the Extrema girls. This should be gooooood!

Really? I've seen that done with tomatoes out of a hanging bag or something. That would be really cool to mix into a conventional grow with a vertical light setup. Kinda like hanging baskets. Do you have a link or something where there's more info?

Thanks for stopping by las. Yeah it's coming together bit by bit. I found it hard updating the threads I sub to so I thought I'd start this and share the best with them. Hope to get my Canon back from a friend of mine soon and try to get some nice shots up here for you guys. I'm looking to get a little creative and have some fun with it. Hope you keep stopping by and checking it out.
