For those of you on a budget...

Because thats what flood lights are and you can tell from looking at the bulb. These are ok i guess for a budget like the guy said but if you can help it stay away from stuff like this.
 
I dunno...doesn't say HPS anywhere in the description, only "power saver bulb." I would want something a little more concrete than "it looks like an HPS" to buy it...

why? you cant just say that and not say why.
 
I'm using one that is identical to that and it works great. Just wire it up to an extension cord. Very easy and works fine. I'm 99% sure it is HPS.... go to the link I listed and scroll down
it says
"This outdoor flood light uses a high-intensity discharge bulb (HID) with sodium. It comes in a brown finish and includes one bulb. "

sounds like HPS to me...
 
ok while it IS an HPS light i can't tell from the description there but it probably doesn't have the same light spectrum as a HPS light you would get from a hydro store.... but if you can switch the bulb out for one you buy from a hydro store like a hortilux then maybe you got something there..... do they have HPS bulbs in 150w even ???? lol not that ive seen

how would the spectrum be different? the ones are the hydro store aren't much different. same type of bulb. But hey if you have the money for it, go for it. But a lot of us don't have tons of cash..
 
personaly that looks like a metal hallide bulb there still good and at that price its great best for useduring veg to be honest hps bulbs are more often tubular that looks like a baloon shape so get a couple of them for veg then add a 400-600 hps for flower you will yield more like this

no it defintely looks like an hps...mh's look much differant. The reason why its a rounder hps is because of the wattage. All you have to is look at the bar inside the bulb and you can tell its an hps
 
sodium hid =/means it is a low or high pressure sodium light. and hps bulbs do not have to be a "grow light" bulb like hortilux to work. they have enhanced spectrums which means that it is more effective for plant use. I use normal $12 street light bulbs that i order in bulk online. the only downfall to them is that they ONLY produce enough red light to use, and the blue light emmitted from them isnt really enough /strong for the plants to get use of.

but yeah thanks for the person who open this thread. i plan on adding a couple of these into my flower room as supplimental light for lower branches, then i wont need to cut as much back from the bottom of the plant in my prepetual harvest setup.
