First Grow

Hi everyone! I started two of my plants about 2 weeks ago, and they are growing great so far (other than the first two leaves getting eaten by bugs). One of these two plants has much thicker leaves than any of the other plants which could be a good sign. I am unsure about the strains of all the buds because I have just collected them over the year. The other plant I started is about a week 1/2 old and is the healthiest (i started this one in my window sill instead of in the backyard where all the bugs are). The plants are growing in MiracleGro Organic Potting Soil right now.

I plan on making a computer case grow box and doing a LST grow with a wire shelf half way up up the case. 4 6,500k CFLs for Veg 18/6 and 4 2,700k CFLs for Flower 12/12. Two fans one placed below the lights and the other near the base of the plant for optimal temperature control. I planned on using Advanced Nutrients Organic Iguana Juice for the Veg phase and Advanced Nutrients Bud Candy for the Flowering Phase. I was unsure on soil mixtures or if I even need to change from what I have.

Let me know what you think of this so far. I want constructive criticism on this because it is my first grow and want to have a nice amount of dank nuggetz for me to toke on for a while.

Much Appreciated

they look fine..but very wet. how did they get like that man. have they been in the rain or something. id keep the soil a bit drier and try get them dry asap. maybe if you can stick a few cfl bulbs in a big cardboard box it would do for a very tempory room untill you can setup a pc box. i suppose it depends on how sunny the window is tho..a few cfl vs the bright sun..no contest lol.

sounds like ya got a plan that should be good anyways mate..good luck

the only reason they are so wet is because i had just misted them before i took the pics. i have been watering them with filtered water every 2-3 days

they don't need to be misted. it can actually be confusing to a plant if done to often and can slow root growth. get rid of the bugs asap. if they're already eating your babies just wait till the lay a couple hundred eggs in that soil. don't plan on toking very often or very much with a computer case grow is all i can say.

Meh, I think the Miracle Gro will be fine for your soil, at least it's organic. That's reassuring. Anything makes me nervous since it's chock full of chemicals and nasty stuff. Wouldn't inhale that if you paid me to.

Other than that, your nutes are sounding good and your strategy sounds solid to me. I agree with the other guys about misting - don't do it unless you're seeing severe nute deficiencies.

When you put too much water or nutes on the plant, it can't breathe and it will have troubles with growth. In addition, the extra nutes can be too much if you already have nutes going in the soil.

When it comes to growing, too many nutes is going to hurt you more than it helps you.

good luck bro!:leaf:

I appreciate the info about misting i would have never known different. Also I found a cheap soil mixture that i think im going to use. 1 Bag FoxFarm's OceanForest Potting Mix, 1 Bag Miracle-Gro Potting Mix and 1 Bag Scotts Perlite. Also i planned on just doing a 1/4 strength nutes all the up to the flush. do you think this will work out well?

I had two questions about making my computer grow box:

1. Should I line the inner walls with aluminum foil or paint them all white?
2. What is a good way to hook the fans up without using a power supply in the case?

Much appreciated

HI if you want to wire up PC fans then find yourself a Transformer like this http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/searchBrowseAction.html?method=getProduct&R=0435942
cut the connector off and solder the fans in a parallel circuit. Chances are you may have somthing similar lying around home, as long as it is 12volt and above 500ma for one fan ( if you have one that is say 5amp then that will be fine too) as long as the volts dont exceed the fans input your ok, the fans will only draw as much current as it requires so dont worry about putting too many amps to the fan.
Hope this helps

Urm yeah its not as safe and sound, but if you use electrical insulating tape you could just strip back the plastic on the wires ( about an inch ) and twist the ends together then rap tape over the joins. just make sure to really twist them together and cover them up neatly.

If you are using the fans that are in a pc case they will be DC 12volt. To use the fans without the main power supply in the pc that normaly powers them you will need a AC to DC converter like the one in the link.
