Out with the old, in with new (grow)

I attempted to do a grow journal on my last grow, but I never updated it. I don't know, I was too lazy I guess. Well, I grew two small plants in a stealth closet grow. I have a 250w HPS that I used for Veg and Flower.

These plants were grown from clones at a local dispensary. One was reported to be Grand Daddy Purple, and one Blueberry. As these plants grew up I noticed that the plants labeled as Grand Daddy Purple were clearly not Grand Daddy Purple...or so I thought.

I had to start by setting up the closet. So I went out to the Home Depot and spent my day buying wood and all of the necessary tools for the job. What I ended up with for a setup is below.

After I had the setup ready I picked up the clones and brought them home. I planted them in Fox Farms Organix Potting Soil with 1/3 perlite. I didn't take a lot of pictures in the beginning, because I loaned my camera to a friend and didn't get it back. Figures.

Right before going into flowering the plants started to turn a little yellow. I suspected Nitrogen deficiency and chose to leave them on veg nutes for the first 2 weeks of flowering.

These pictures were taken at day 3 of 12/12.

By the 12th day of flowering the plants were looking good and I new things were going to turn out okay. I had been nervous that with a 250w light and only 2 plants even though they were vegged for a long period (7 weeks) that I wasn't going to yield very much. This stage made me feel better.

The plants quickly showed sex and beyond. After hearing stories of plants needing 2 weeks to show sex I figured I was way ahead of the curve. It only took 3 days to show sex!

They also really stretched out nice and were setting up the spacing very nicely.

Things ended up going pretty well with that grow, but again lagged on camera work. I didn't take any more pictures until the harvest. Well the harvest was mildly succesful at a whopping 3 oz! I picked them at 52 days of 12/12 because I wanted to start my next project and I wanted to get the nice cerebral high that picking early gets you. I probably could have gotten another 1/2 oz out of the two of them by waiting. One was a very sativa strain (that's why I say it wasn't Grand Daddy Purple, but it turned out purple) and definitely looked like it could go 2 -3 more weeks easy. It just would have left me with 1 plant using the space I need for my next grow so I pulled them.

Here are some harvest pics...

I ended up getting a line on some new clones that are guaranteed to be from better strains than my last one. The reported blueberry on the last one was ridiculously good, but the purple strains is just slightly above average, Definitely solid, but not WOW.

For this grow I decided to switch to Hydro to decrease growing time and increase yield. For those that don't agree with that, I don't want to argue it anymore. This is the way that I'm doing it.

I have decided to at least veg with a new 6 bulb T-5 light fixture that I picked up at the local hydro store. This unit is good for 30,000 lumens and should suffice my short vegging cycle. I am going to try to only veg for about another week and half. I need to keep them short and I'm only growing six so that I can veg shorter period and yield a decent amount. I can't get an ounce per plant right now because I am in an apartment and don't want to deal with the odor.

For odor control now I am already using a 360cfm fan connected to a Can-66 carbon filter. Works great now, but my shit is so stealth that my own roommate couldn't tell I was growing. And the shit was stinky before I did some things about it.

Anyway, here are pics of the new little girls...

These babies are doing well. I picked them up last Thurs. and they are already showing new growth and minimal yellowing/wilting.

These are the last 5 pics of the new little girls. I will update this log as much as I possibly can. I am aiming at once a week with pics and daily discussions are always good.

Well, stop by, check it out and leave your opinions/suggestions. Alright, I am done. Go ahead and reply!

Thank you for respecting the request to not post! This site kicks ass!

Damn, typed up this whole thing, resized all my pics, and took a little effort to share and not a single response. Cold blooded group this is.

Day 6 (VEG):

Plants are looking good. Some are growing faster that others. I believe some of the plants are beginning to stretch a little, but it's hard to say as they are growing leaves, just seem to be jumping up more than out. I have the light at 2" from the tallest guy and it gets too hot if I drop them closer. I only have to veg with this light for another week, maybe week and half and I'll switch to 12/12 with my HPS.

Nice setup Laser, all looks well.

Good luck with this grow, although to be fair your first attempt was not too bad was it. At least you got to smoke some of your efforts which is always nice!!!

Anyways happy growing man and best wishes

To tell you the truth, although the first one could have been better, it really was quite successful for a first timer. I yielded over an oz/plant which is what I was looking for. All in all I think this time will be much better. I am hoping just to get about 1/2 oz - 1oz per plant this time. I am only going to veg for about a week or so more and then I'm going 12/12. I want to get going quickly so I can avoid the blistering hot August/September days.

Thanks for the input. I will try to update this thread as often as I see major changes or if I have problems. Input and suggestions are always welcome.

Thank you, I thought it was pretty good for 2 plants from a closet and a 250 watt light. It took about 7 days to get fully dry. I am still curing in jars, but I water cured a good amount (not even shown, theres more!). The water cured buds were dried in a dehydrator and only took 7 days and 5 hours before I was smoking some of my freshly grown shit.

The water cured buds are really smooth to smoke and really potent. Definitely no complaints with water curing. The buds are ugly as sin and shrunk like crazy, but I don't think I've ever smoked decent bud with this much chlorophyl removed. Just no burn at all. It's like I used my vaporizer.

Update on the grow:

Using the 30,000 lumens 6 bulb T5 light fixture has posed some problems. I am f**in retarded and left it with only 2 bulbs on all day today. I do this at night sometimes for a few hours before lights out and a few hours after lights on. Sort of simulates real life. It doesn't go from direct light to dark, so why not taper off the lights?? Also saves on the heat a bit during the hottest part of the day.

Anyway, this caused my plants to stretch. Supposed to get 4 hours of low light and instead got 24. Not good. One plant in particular stretched out like crazy. I'm going to probably end up giving it away to a friend so he can finish it off. My medical card only allows 6 plants max (mature). Immature plants I believe the limit is 12, so if I give away the worst or slowest growing plant before 12/12 I'm all good.

The rest seem okay, maybe slightly stretched, but to prevent this problem I'm going to switch to my HPS a little early. I will put it in tomorrow @ 24" and see how the plants react and how the temps are. The temps outside today reached over 100deg. so I'm weary about using the big dawg. I don't like my grow room to go over 84 degrees.

hoyl shit some pple have some seriouse fiendish set ups going on , why would you need to grow so many plants? unless you deal

I certainly don't deal. The idea is that the more plants I have the less time I need for veg to get the same yield. These plants will be kept much smaller than my last ones.

6 or 7 single cola plants I'm hoping to yield the same or just slightly more than with 2 plants, but instead of 7 weeks for veg I'm looking at 1 1/2 - 2 weeks.

With clones so easy to obtain from "the store" it makes much more sense to grow this way.

After I get a little more experience under my belt and after I get all of the kinks worked out I'm going to try to do a "mini SOG". I have two 1 x 4 trays that I'm using currently. I want to get to a point where the back trays hold plants that are 4 weeks into flowering and the fronts hold brand new plants ready for 12/12. Every 4 weeks swap them around and get a harvest. I know it can be done even more efficiently to get a harvest every 2 weeks, but I'm too busy a person with other things in my life to dedicate the time all of that.

Just to be clear all the shit I grow is for me and my buddies to burn it. It's very liberating to know that you are A) Burning your own bud, and B) feeling like all weed that you have is destined to burn.

When I buy it I'm always at least a little bit reserved about burning it all up, just means I have to lay out cash to buy more. When I grow it, it's there to be smoked by all who would be so kind as to join me in smoking it.

I have to say that the medical card and the ability to buy ROOTED clones is amazing and revolutionizes growing.

The clones look great, no yellowing, no wilting, no droopiness and they instantly take off. I don't know who grows them, but they definitely know how to get clones done right.

I thought about growing some huge mothers and setting up propagation trays to sell clones to the "stores", but I found out that it's risky business. These guys do them 100 at a time and if you are caught with 100 clones they consider it the same as having 100 plants and therefore you are considered a "drug kingpin" and get nailed pretty hard.
