UFO LED or HPS 250w

What do you guys think is better... a UFO 90w LED light or HPS 250w light?

2 plants, small growing enclosure

250w hps. hands down $1K bet.

i know its not in the question but htgsupply has 400 watt closely priced to 250watt, like $2 close.

now these ufo led setups says they push light equivalent to a 400w hps... now I'm sure that could be exagerated but I thought maybe it would be at least be better than a 250w hps.

So what advantage does the HPS have over the UFO led. How about compared to the procyon and Light Blaze 400?

250 hps, i had bad luck with leds... go hps for sure, when i ditched the led and got my hps my plant is happier then ever!

you know for a $1k bet you might think i have seen the pudding.

but really, i have looked into every post that pops up led lighting. they are always the same. from what i see.

i think the light is to concentrated 4 1.

every add boost that the led will match this and that. kinda like how 400 (actual consuming) watts of cfls don't match a 400 watt hps when it comes to light output.

but give them some time and they will be great, perhaps. i sure would like to see that any way. no more heat, low energy consumption, long lasting, no big ops getting flirred. hahaha. when they come into better light, i will grow with them.

just my opinion though

I'm mainly worried about heat. I'm sure the 250w hps would gay way hotter than the 90w led.

Has anyone here grown with UFO LEDs (or similar) and switched over to HPS (or equivalent) lighting?

I see a lot of threads of people using LEDs but they're using cheap ebay stuff, not the $400-600 LED systems.

im using the UFO and its doing great for veg but havent hit flowering so i dont know how well it will do there

i've seen a few expensive attempts with leds. just about the same.

if your worried about heat, have you thought about cfl's?

if u have money def go with LED...i can have mine within inches of the plants with no heat burns...plus cfls look like shit if u want to have enough to equal a hps or LED

i started with them. and i am still veggin with them and will most likely continue to do so. the hps is much better but cfl's have there place in the world.

also, you can get an air cooled hood for your hps and evacuate the heat from your grow.

i don't really have a thousand dollars but i still say no to led's. maybe littlegrower2004 has some tricks up there sleeve to actually grow with leds.

ya i got a thread in the general marijuana growing room...havent updated for a good week so ill get on that tomorrow..actually got 2 set ups going with the UFOs..one with a 150 hps to go with and the other is sitting on top of 8 GDP clones...

Try high wattage large CFLs.

When most people think of cfls they imagine the small spiraled ones, not the larger ones that can grow quite well.Compact Fluorescent Plant Grow Lights & Fixtures by Hydrofarm at Home Harvest Garden Supply

I consider these to be a great middle of the road substitute, they stay very cool compared to the HPS lights and can put out 6000-9000 lumens pretty easily. they tear ass in small space but if you're running many plants its probably more efficient to get an HPS

If you're going to ScrOG, then get a LED panel.
Make sure they use .4watt 10mm LEDs, the rest are pretty much junk.
If you're not going to ScrOG, get the HPS....

Or instead of buying, build you're own LED panels.
Its pretty straight forward. DIY LED panels cost about $1/watt to make,
including the power supply you'll need to drive them.

Why is LED better for the ScrOG method?

Any low intensity light ligh cfl or led do not penetrate the plant foliage as well as HID hps light would. So you want all your buds up top. CFLS will run cooler than hps and work MUCH BETTER than LEDs. You can get 4oz with 4 42watt bulbs if you know what your doing, i still have yet to see a descent flowering plant with only LEDs. $40 for cfls and $600 for LEDs and CFL will produce more.

Not trying to bash LEDs, i tihnk they are the future, but i think there are much more reasonable options.
