The Doc's 2Strain Trial Organic Run: Tangerine Dream & Pineapple Chunk.

As the title states, this will be an organic grow (at least as organic as possible) for 2 strains both by Barney's Farm: Tangerine dream (Sativa dom and more updeat effect) and Pineapple Chunk (indica dom with a more of a relaxing and sedative effect) in a 4x4 tent.

Lighting: 600w MH/HPS (supplemented in flowering with an additional 350w COB LED 4K color spectrum). The HID is in a 8" cooling tube with an 8" fan. An addional tent extraction 8" fan to keep the air circulating and will be hooked to a 30"long×10"diam scrubber when the smell kicks in. 2 fans to circulate the air in the tent and around the branches.

Feeding: Hoping for water only til the end with supplementing with teas and top dressing here and there. But if needed, i have general organics GO box handy (thoughts??) (Using it in teas possibly too ... thoughts?)

Soil mix to a total of 2.5cf split in 2x 9gal pots plus leftover :
1/3 FFOF (peat based and amended heavily). It felt very fluffy and airy to touch. First and second pic
1/3 FF CocoLoco (coco based and nicely amended). It felt a little fine-grainy 3rd and 4th pics
1/3 aeration: (consisting of 1/3 of each: construction sand, happy frog soil conditioner and perlites). This soil mix is coarse-grainy but very airy although with a nicey heavy body and structure. 5th and 6th pic and 7th all mixed. (Thoughts on this?)
The 8th pic is of the final mixture of soil before adding my amendments. Mixing all together gives me the advantages of both peat and coco from the first and second parts of the mix. Theyre both aerated with perlites out of the bag. Therefore i wanted my additional 1/3 aeration to have sand as part of it. I didnt want to lose too much organic composition in the mix and thus i added 1/3 of the aeration portion of Happy Frog soil conditioner (see pic for ingredients)

Amendments (still haven't been added so please let me know if I should decrease or increase or drop any):
2 cups rock dust (actually dust acquired from Marble/Granite joint)
2 cups happy frog tomatoes n veggies
2 cups happy frog bulb food for higher p/k for flowering.
2 cups ground up rabbit food for alfalfa+ meal?
1 cup bat guano high N
1 cup bat guano high P
(Also have happy frog steames bone meal if needed to be added .... and I can get some algae from a nearby beach and dry it up for kelp meal??)

This mix will be allowed to cook for at least 4 weeks (watered with EWC/Great White tea for a jump start) while i germinate the seeds and sprout them in rooting plugs (2 weeks) and veg the seedlings in 50%CocoLoco & 50% aerating mix as above for 2-4 weeks getting them ready for the hot soil and the flip ;-)

I will put the girls in the final 9gal pots right before I flip to 12/12 and give them a few days to recover any shock.

Any thoughts on the soil mix or amendments or what i am doin are more than welcome and appreciated ... as this is my first organic run and first time playing around with dirt like this and with some background knowledge haha :-)
My last soil grow was in a simple 1part sand 1part peat and 1part perlite (EWC and guano added) then simply fed with FloraNova
Thank yall in advance and til next update, happy growin :-)
P.S: current run getting wrapped up to clear the tent out for this one. The timer was busted so it screwed it all up for me hence this run hah

2.5 gallons of tap water are bubbling with a sock in it, containing a handful of EWC and a little less of Rabbit food and a scoop of Great White (see pic) and 2 tablespoons of molasses. Ill allow this to bubble for 48 hours (unless you guys think 24 hours are enough as ive always been brewing it for 48 hours (Heisenberg tea recipe) to incorporate this tea (without the rabbit food of course) in my hydro!
The brew will then be used to water the soil to give it a jump start in its "cooking" process ... but i was wondering if I should water it straight or if I should dilute it a little. Also, can this tea be stored and reused later? (The tea i brewed for hydro, i would store for a week to 10 days in the fridge to be able to replenish my hydro system every 3 to 4 days or so
Til next update, happy growin yall :-)

So this morning and after brewing the tea for a little less than 48 hours, the tea, without dilution, went into the amended soil mix and the soil got mixed well to also aerate it. The soil will be allowed to cook for at least a month before using it for flowering. I may veg the girls with a mix of 50% this soil and 50% Coco Loco or something close to that. Still not sure. Oh and the leftover tea went into my vegetables garden :-)

Heres a shot of the seeds as they came from TheSingleSeedCenter TSSC. These two beans will go between wet paper towels today.
The germinated seeds will either go into rooting plugs (to attemp pruning the roots, a technique thats meant to bush out the roots before putting the plants in the medium) or i will put the germinated beans straight in Coco Loco! Also time will tell lol
Til next update, happy growin yall :-)

Quick update
24 hours later and the seeds havent germinated yet ... they're still between the wet paper towels....it is a bit colder these days so that explains it.
On a positive note, I placed some string beans seeds straight in Coco Loco soil yesterday, and as of right now they're trying to poke through the dirt :-)
I think ill go ahead and plant my seeds directly in coco loco instead of rooting plugs :-)
Til next update, happy growin and happy new year yall :-)

Hey hey hey and happy new year green family ;-)
Less than 48 hours and only the TD broke a tiny taproot .. the PCh seed is swollen though and will break open any minute now. So i went ahead and placed each in a small (~3") pot with straigh outta the bag CocoLoco and watered. Drainage is awesome with this medium :-)
Happy growin yall ;-)

I brushed off the dirt above the PCh seed and saw that the seed didnt germinate. As a final attempt to germ it (putting the blame on the dry and slightly colder weather) i placed the seed back in water. It sunk down telling me it absorbed enough water so far ... but maybe the shell is just too hard or whatever. Anyway, I'll give the seed 12 to 24h in the water and see what happens. If that seed germinates, it'll go back in the dirt. Otherwise, I will try to germinate another seed (G13 labs pineapple express #2 perhaps ;-) ). Til next update, happy growin yall :-)

So after 24 hours in water and still not germinating, she went in CocoLoco. G13 labs Pineapple express #2 seed was placed in water cup also and 24 hours later it was moved to wet paper towels. 48 hours and still nothing (I knew it wasnt going to happen) so I got a Dutch Passion Strawberry Cough seed in the same wet paper towels. Today, after 36 hours, a tap root popped out :-)
The Strawberry Cough and Pineapple express2 went into CocoLoco even though I have a good feeling the pineapple express2 (and the chunk as well) isnt going to sprout. The Tangerine dream gets some sun when its warmer outside and wow does she love the light following the sun wherever she goes ;-)
Til next update, happy growin yall :-)

Hey hey hey
It has been 2 weeks since I mixed my soil and amendments and started the soil cooking process. I got a hold of some neem powder a couple of days ago and today I mixed about 1.5 cups of neem powder in the 2.5cuft soil mix i have cooking then watered a little since the top inch was drying. Itll cook for another 2-4 weeks before I plant the girls in for flowering :-)
Til next update, happy growing yall :-)

Weekly update
Today is day (from sprout) for:
Barneys Tangerine Dream (19 days) first pic
Dutch Passion Strawberry Cough (11 days) second pic
G13 Labs Pineapple Express #2 (9 days).
They are growing nicely in this straight CocoLoco. Theyre still in their 3in pots and will soon be repotted to their veg pots.
The Tangerine Dream is currently under 85w + 40w + 40w CFL daylight spect.
The two smaller ones are under one CFL each and will soon be moved to join their older sister (untill I clean out my groom (which had spider mites) and disinfect it). Then theyll go under 350w COB LED 4000k.
Til next update happy growin yall :-)

Hey everyone ... heres another update starting the count for VEG week!

TD is 20 days from sprout
SC is 12 days from sprout
PE2 is 10 days from sprout

The soil I mixed initially (giving us 2.5cf) (total 5.5 parts) was mixed with a ukranian "Sapropel" fertilizer/soil amendment (first and second pics) ....... as described by the retailer:

"Description:
Sapropel - environmentally friendly fertilizer, contains the most important batteries of plants. Sapropel is rich with organic substances, contains nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, calcium.

The sapropel-uniform student invisible weight consisting of the organo-mineral substances which are formed of the remains of the plants and animal and mineral and organic impurity brought in reservoirs by water and wind. Sapropelic fertilizers are made from ground deposits of fresh-water reservoirs which were created from the died-off water vegetation, the remains of live organisms, and also particles of soil humus, peat, clay and sand. Sapropelic fertilizers - the irreplaceable product applied to radical improvement of the earth for its recultivation and sanitation. When entering sapropelic fertilizers into the soil, its mechanical structure, water-absorbing and moisture-holding ability improves, for 2-3 years gives increase in the soil a humus and, activates soil processes. Thanks to slow solubility of the substances operating in a product the balanced food of plants is provided with all batteries."

The (2.5 cf) give me 5.5 parts and 5 of those were mixed with 1 part of the Sapropel fertilizer. The remaining 0.5 part leftover of the original mix was layered at the bottom or the 3× 35L pots (keeping in mind the original mix is airier and also bit more concentrated in amendments compared to the final mix and thats why i wanted it at the bottom.)
The 3 pots were filled then with the final mix and 3 herb plants were planted in each pot in preparation for the final transplant in those final pots 2-4 weeks from now.
I kept a little of the final soil and mixed it with 1:1 CocoLoco to veg the little seedlings in it. The seedlings will be potted in their veg pots in the next few days!

Til next update happy growin yall :-)

Quick update
The 3 girls got repotted today, got sprayed with neem oil then went under the 350w COBs LED in the grow tent :-)
The Strawberry Cough and Pineapple Express 2 showed signs of deficiency on their lower first set of true leaves. Hopefully they'll enjoy their new pots ;-)
A group shot then selfies of the TD, SC and PE2 respectively
Til next update happy growin yall :-)

Weekly update (4 days after the repot) and the giros are looking good. I was able to raise the rH from not registering to 55% with a humidifier. Theres a breeze slightly moving the girls to help with the direct heat of the intense light....since the begining the SC (and PE2 a lil) looked a little hungry. I sprinkled a pinch of Happy Frog Tomatoes and Vegetables organic dry fert and tomorrow will try to top the dirt with something to serve as mulch and mist.
Til next update, happy growin yall :-)
