Mapito, Has anybody used it?

I've found a couple of sources in the US but have heard reports that some of it is of low quality. I would like to try it out, I saw a thread from a Canadian grower with a side by side trial with soil and the Mapito bush ended up twice as big and healthier.

im wondering if you can just make the mapito yourself? im thinking of just using rockwool chunks. and 5 gal pots, flood and drain. anybody here on rollitup grow with mapito?or make thier own? id love to know too. thanks for starting this tread.

I have some G13 Pineapple express started up in solo cups of mapito that will soon be transplanted into 2gal hempy buckets. This is from MapitoUSA.....and has the polyurethane foam/rockwool vs. the coco chunks/rockwool I've read about. The cups are showing lots of root activity but I have to water every day vs. my standard coco coir which retains moisture for several days. As far a quality I can't gauge since I've never seen it before...looks ok to me. I'll take pictures later today....cups are clear...nested inside opaque cups.

Here's some shots of my PE's at 17 days from seed...I scissored the starter mapito into 1/2" croutons for the starter cups and you can see the root development is profuse. The largest (third on the right) is actually 3 days behind the other two as one of the first 2 looked like it wasn't going to sprout in the initial paper towel germination...but it eventually did. It may be larger because I topped the mapito with coco as I noticed that the cups were getting light every day requiring daily feeds ..even with a hole 1.25" of the side defining the reservoir drain (hempy is my thing). Don't know if the extra air between chunks does the drying so why not experiment. I'm a little disappointed in the strain however. Most of my plants done in coco coir are twice as thick in the stems but these were the tiniest sprouts I've ever seen in rapid rooters where they started. I was so intrigued I sprouted two more in coco cups just to see the difference and they are small too.

Here's a batch of mapito soaking in Canna Substra Vega/Rhizotonic @ ph 5.8 and ~375ppm. The black looking chunks are the polyurethane foam pieces...initially dark greyish. This will go in my 2g hempy buckets where I transplant tomorrow. This is actually a little less in ppm from what the sprouts currently see in the cups (safety measure).

Here they are the morning after transplant...they look like they are enjoying the bigger bucket of mapito already...no signs of shock.

One week after transplant.....I think they like the mapito but nothing much different than my coco grows so far. Didn't have to water all week since the mapito was presoaked. They finally got a full watering today.

PE @27 days into flower ≈40" tall. I've had to do a lot of trimming to get colas exposed to light. Nice fat base stems. Mapito is giving me no problems whatsoever. It's proving to be a nice match-up with Canna Substra...they just got their first dose of PK13/14. My watering freq. is every 3 days where it would normally be in the 2.5 day range with plain coco coir. Looking for a sample form mapitogrowmedium.com to try out their product as well.

PE @ 36 days flower.....just after the last PK13/14 add. The Mapito is holding up good...just a little bit of scuzz on the top layer. With cooler temps I'm sometimes going 3.5 days without watering...nobody's complaining about that around here. Started some Barney's Farm Blue Cheese in another mapito blend from "Mapito Grow Medium". I personally met the owner of this new company and am very impressed with his intentions to provide us the authentic Holland blend. His mixture focuses on a higher ratio of PU foam to rock-wool and the rock-wool is more of a "wool" than chunks. I can only think "maximum aeration". Pic's of seedlings to come.....

Took the Pineapple Express down at 57 days...nice yield for two plants. Now I can truly say that mapito works as a viable grow medium....and in a hempy bucket with no other medium in the res section. For those interested, I used a 400W HPS and Canna "Substra" nutrients. I applied the PK13/14 treatments at weeks 4&5, ≈9days. Never had to water more frequently than every 3 days in the mapito.

The dry weight is in....9.3 zips total, or 4.7 zips per plant. Not too shabby for 2gal buckets with a simple hole in the side.

Here's some shots of the mapito "plug" as I cleaned my hempy buckets. No need for perlite in the bottom of these buckets. The medium served well from top to bottom. I should add that my buckets were very clean after pulling the plugs..just a little salt ring around the top.
