You should sprout the seed using a damp paper towel folded over. Dampen the paper towel, fold it a few times, place the seeds on it then fold again to cover the seeds, place on a small dish with a bowl upside down over top of it and place it somewhere with a little warmth (dish dvr, stereo receiver, monitor, etc..)

Once the shell cracks open and you have a decent little sprout coming from the seed you are then ready to transfer to a better growing medium such as rock wool cubes. From there your mileage may vary depending on the type of system you are setting up so I wont comment from that point forward as to not give misinformation or ideas not knowing how you plan on finishing your grow.

Hope that helps.

P.S - There are plenty of other ways people go about sprouting seeds before initial transplant to their growing method, the one listed above is probably the most common. Feel free to search for "Germination" techniques and pick which one seems best for you.

i dont think it will work. The only way 1 isee it working is if you fill the cup with a medium andput the sprouted seed thats in the cooton ball in the cup like you would rockwool. Put the cup in a bubbler. All you need is a air pump and stone.. about 8 bux

it would be tough to do it like that.
you don't want the sprouted seed in the water.
Just in the moist part of the cotton.
your gonna need nutrients.
your gonna need to change the water like every day
and then I really don't think it would be enough 02 in the H20.

yes you can use cotton balls as seedling media.
use small plastic tube 3cm diameter about 5cm long put cotton ball into it a seed inserted into the cotton ball maybe half cm down. when plant is at 2 leaf stage, the seedling is planted up. you will see the cotton wool is full of roots. it can be fed with water soluble fertilizer if you wish. with the cotton wool you get a very strong root ball. that can be handled safely without damage to the root system.
its cheap and easy
