Need Help With 220 Timer

I have a 40 amp Intermatic T1472BR timer and I cant seem to figure out the proper wiring. Im using 10/3 30 amp wire and Im switching 4 1,000 watt digital ballast. I have two hots "black and red" one neutral "white" and a ground. Does anyone know the proper placement of these wires for this timer? I have been to pool supplys, Lowes, Home Depot, friends, google, YouTube...... and I cant find any good info anywhere.

The internal clock runs on 220. Its a 4 pole system but Im only using 2 poles "I believe" and I need the clock to run. It was working before but cant remember how it was wired.

Thanks

its a 4 pole system so it is basically 4 seperate switches & you are correct that you are only using 2 switches. to get the easy stuff out of the way, your grounds all go together and the white/neutrals also get tied together(but not to grounds). now the terminals are paired so when the switch is on 1 connects to 2, 3 to 4 and so on. you will want to put your red feed on to one side of a pair and the red going to your lights on the other side of the same pair. pick another pair and do the same for the blacks.
now for the clock, it looks to me like it wont work on 240 but needs a single phase of 208 or higher( not found in a house) you said you have had it working b4 (I ASSUME you mean it worked in a house) so I have 2 ideas.
bear in mind I am not sure about this so it would be a good idea to wait for someone w/ more experience.
1st idea is to wire the clock to 120 volts.it has 2 legs coming off the clock.labeled A & B. run 1 to either the red or black feed and the other to the white feed. this will either not do anything or might run the clock at 1/2 speed.
2nd idea is to run 1 leg to the red feed & the other to the black feed.I suspect this will either work or smoke the clock motor. if it smokes the motor, you can buy another rated for 120.
again it would be better to wait for someone w/ more knowledge to warn you if I am wrong but its your call.

Ya looks like the clock runs off 208/277. Dont think the clock motor itself would run off 240, most of the time they need a nuetral. I havent installed one without a nuetral before, but thats not to say its not possible.

Any suggestions of what kind of timer I should get if I cant get this one working? There has to be an easy answer. Im sure Im not the first one to hook a 220 timer to four 1.000 watt lights. I see 220 timers at Lowes and Home Depot but no one there can tell me how to conect them and the diagram on those things aint a lot of help either.

Its not connections or anything like that. Its that the actual clock only runs off of a high leg (208/277) and that type of voltage isnt in houses. So your ticker wont tick without that voltage.

Like I said. It was running before I unhooked it. I should of just cut the wires instead of unhooking them. I went to Lowes today and bought a Intermatic T104R for $70. Its a little easyer to wire and it is also a 220 with a 220 clock. Got it hooked up and all is good. Thanks guys.
