hey all i am going to do a small closet grow Size about 2 x 2.5 x 5 with CFL's. My question is how can i eliminate the smell without the possibility of having an exhaust/intake vent? is it possible to still operate a carbon filter Without exhaust ? Ive also heard about "ona gel" but i dont know if/how that would work... Any help or opinions are appreciated alot... Thanks

if you have no exhaust, how do you plan to cool the space? how do you plan to provide fresh air for you plants (they need the co2).

you need to address those issues before you worry about smell, else the plants wont get big enough to smell haha.

It's a closet.... You open the door for a few minutes a couple of times a day or leave it cracked open, it doesn't "have" to have ventilation. It depends on the lights.

ONA gel works, so do negative ion generators. However, if you like to sniff at buds, take the negative ion generator out the last week if you can get by with some odor. You can get some good plug ins that produce 2 million neg ions per minute on eBay for about $40.... they are also beneficial to your plants. I run two of these in my grow space and two outside of it as well.

Thanks for the link serapis those ionizers sound great, i'll have to buy a couple. How many plants do you think one alone would handle?

I added Molasses to my water and it helped a tremendous amount. Didn't eliminate the smell, but at least it doesn't reek like it used to.

Ha! I did the same and notices about the same results.
Was afraid to say anything about it because it doesn't sound right (near unbelievable?), but it worked on the smell about 90%(?). While not why I added it,, certainly a nice plus.

Also as a side note -
My new grow is about the same size. Seperate veg area (seperate cab) I'll use the CFLs. But in this sized room, a 250 watt (ish) would be a more efficient / cheaper way to go and a awful lot easier to do. (just food for thought?)

I use a carbon scrubber in the flowering chamber with no exhaust connected to it. I hung it near the top of the center of the room and it has worked great. I just have to clean the pre filter and replace the activated carbon once per year.

so you just hung it it up? you have a fan connected to it though, correct? what size is the Carbon scrubber /fan?

It is about 36" long x 4" wide. It has a small PC fan that pulls the odors through the filter. It is also very quiet.
