Would this light work for veg?

Would this light produce proper blue spectrum to work? I'm not sure I understand what "Super Actinic Blue" is in color temp, and I'm also not sure what "Actinic Sun" (50% Daylight & 50% Actinic Blue is.

I know these are normally aquarium reef lights but I swear I read people using these for veg before..

I guess it was either a really stupid question, I'm really stupid, and/or it was a very difficult question and I guess I'm not going to find an answer on these forums.

It was a stupid question all together, if you was to research how to grow cannabis you would know what it is of the wrong specturm of light.

It would work well in an aquarium though, stick with cfl's .

I've grown cannabis before and I thought it was a reasonable question.. Obviously, you thought you knew so much more then me and decided to act like it. After seeing a thread in the archives FROM THIS FORUM I thought someone might have a clue but apparently I was wrong.

Everyone was on this persons groin over their setup WHICH INCLUDED this so called "Actinic Blue" light that doesn't work for cannabis according to you, accept for some reason, they were yeilding some nice cannabis... Can you explain this? Are you just going to say it's BS and tell me to get a life while dodging the question? I was really hoping someone would take this as a serious question..

So would someone like to explain why this person is using an Actinic Blue light and growing cannabis??

Has no one heard of supplemental lighting in the actinic wave length area. This is the HPS shortage that no one really argues. All the new high tech HPS just add phosphurs to add some light out put in the actinic blue wave length area.

IMHO a combination of about any of the 10000K to of 20000K halide and any cheap HPS will do fine, and much better than using just HPS or evem n the adjusted HPS.

I have also recently had excellent results with two 400 watt HPS in sepearte water cooled tubes suplemented with four 54 watt 4ft actinic T-5 tubes.

UVB is one of the ways to get pot more potent. 10k bulbs are high in UVB for stinky potent buds with 30% more thc production possible. SO I know you can use this light for supplement in flowering but I really wanted to know if you could veg with it ALONE. 1 actinic blue and 1 6500k bulb.

I guess I came to the wrong forum aswell to find real answers to real questions.. It just seems everytime I have a legit question peoiple on this forum have to act like they are gods greatest gift to marijuana growing and have nothign more they can possibly learn because they are gods..

Yeah. T12 lights are the lowest light per wattage of the fluoros. Plus those are 6' lights. A very odd size for T12s. Where would you get replacements? Also lights that give out 100,000 K light produces UV rays that will damage your plant by bombarding it, with no filter, with light wavelenghts that it cant even use.

If you want tube fluoros, get T5s. They are very efficient, they cost around $10 each and you can get them anywhere.

Dude, a fucking 40w incandesant will grow and flower cannabis but it will be shit, just like yours will be if you use that light.

If you would of researched your lamp first you would have seen that its spectrum is about 20000k when you really need 6400k to veg, see the difference in those figures?
The light is of the complete wrong spectrum and you just will not accept it.

So this other grower was using this lamp on its own was he? i thought not!

IT IS THE COMPLETE WRONG SPECTRUM TO GROW/FLOWER WITH, THE REASON THE OTHER GROWER WAS PRODUCING BUD IS BECAUSE HE WAS USING OTHER TYPES OF LIGHT WHICH DOES GROW CANNABIS.

I'm so glad your telling me to use 6500k bulbs as if I didn't already knwo what to use in a CFL for veg.. Here's a question I have for you. How come LED's are produced and can veg with 420 - 460 nm blue yet you say this bulb won't grow shit, yet it peaks at 420 - 460nm blue? Should I go LED shopping in the 6500k range?????

I'm glad you know about cfl's but 6400k referes to all grow bulbs, not just cfl's.

I have tried to help, you do not want to hear it so listen to this.


That reef bulb you have works great to grow mj with, thats why its called a reef bulb. #spectrums dont mean shit really, we just use it to make things harder for us, honest.

It will work, they are dual spectrum too meaning you can use it to flower mj aswell, in fact they are so good if you was to use it on a rose bush it would produce awsome buds too.

Actual sunlight produces far more wavelengths then 6500k and 2700k AND I FUCKING GUARANTEE Cannabis uses more then these wavelengths when available. Granted, ps takes place between a narrow color temp but that's not the only wavelengths a cannabis plant would use if the others were available. Regardless of it being for photosynthesis, sugar production, etc.. IT'S ALREADY PROVEN UVB MAKES FOR BETTER MORE POTENT BUD. UVB is not fucking 6500k or 2700k.. Is your HPS doing that ? Does your HPS provide UVB? BIG FUCKING NO! You can't preach a one stop shop for growing cannabis with 6500k and 2700k for every strain either, unless you just want to end up with 60 - 80% of what the plant was capable of, and maybe your happy smoking not the best product you could produce.. Neither HPS or MH that I've seen come in 2700k or 6500k unless they are made for aquarium. Standard HPS I believe is 2100k and MH 4200 - 6000k? Correct me if I'm wrong. So now you can stop spewing specific wavelengths because it's a range, and that range for cannabis is still being discovered and learned.

Man, sorry for all the stupid replies, supertiger, some people just can't resist jumping in every time someone has a new idea, just to remind them they should be doing exactly whatever everyone else is doing. It makes it worse when they clearly don't know what they are talking about.

Bulbs produce light by heating up certain elements, which give off different colors of light depending on which elements are heating up. The combination of these different colors appears as a single color to the human eye, and when a bulb is rated in kelvin temperature this is what is being given. It doesn't actually describe the individual colors of light that are being given off, and this rating is more or less irrelevant to plants.

Obviously these bulbs are ridiculously high in blue light, which is known to veg plants and produce trichomes. Only concern would be too much UV light, I've heard these produce a lot, so do your homework and be very very careful.

Actinic bulbs operate entirely within the blue spectrum, and the word with some of the more experimental growers is that these lights are the shit for vegging, but that you should supplement with another kind of light to fill out the spectrum a bit. Haven't seen it implemented in person, but I'msure we'll be seeing a lot more of them in the future, though the high UV may make them more suitable to UV production than veggings. If you experiment with these would appreciate a heads up, as (I'm sure) would some other members. Don't get cancer!

I have a 6 bulb 4 foot T5. for veg I'm using 2-6500k, 1-2700k, 1 red sun, 1 actinic, and 1- 454nm. works great for veg. tight nodes, good growth, healthy deep green color.

I myself am using a actinic 200w 10000k fixture from an aquarium for vegging and my plants love it!!!! the only stuped question is the one not asked.....thats whats wrong with the world now..everybody knows EVERYTHING and everybody doesnt mind their own business!!!!! Keep up the hunt for knowledge supertiger..growers love buddy!!!!
