1st Time Grower - Indoor/Outdoor, Coco, Soil, 400mh/600whps, Hand Watered

Hey all. These forums are going to be a great resource for me. I'm disappointed that there is only 1 200 page thread on coco; it makes it really hard to find advice unless I know exactly what I'm looking for.

Setup:
4x4x7 Grow tent, 600w Galaxy ballast, Lumenaire hood, 400wMH for veg, 600HPS for flower, PureBlendPro grow/bloom, Cal/Mag, Superthrive, RO water, 75%coco:25% perlite, or 100%potting compost, in Root Builder pots. Trying to keep humidity at 50-60% for veg, 30-40% for flower

1/27 - picked up 3 clones: Barney's Farm LSD, Madman OG, Trainwreck
I planned on growing 2 in the tent and putting the Trainwreck outside in the ground. I live in California and have grown tomato plants extremely successfully in the same spot. The information I'd found on watering in coco basically said that it should be watered till the runoff was 10-15% every time. Since it wouldn't be able to be over-watered. Then I read a few completely conflicting pieces of information that suggested I let it dry out a little more between waterings. I tried to water less and nearly killed the Madman0127011603.jpg
Sorry it's upside down

After that, I decided to pick up a few more clones and to grow the Madman large enough to take a clone off it and try again.

2/4 - picked up another pots, and 2 new clones: Deadhead OG and Sour Kush. Planted them immediately and replanted the Madman into a 2L bottle.
0210012042.jpg
2/10 - Madman OG...I can see roots through the bottle but every day there are more of them. I might end up putting this plant back into a pot and seeing what happens.
0210012041b.jpg
2/10 - Trainwreck in potting compost. Its' just started to grow new leaves, unlike everything I've planted in coco which started about a week earlier. This girl is going to go outside and really get to stretch over the summer. It'll be fun to see what happens.
0210012043.jpg
2/10 - Barney's Farm LSD - I have really high hopes for this plant. She's got the thickest stem and is the bushiest already.
0210012043b.jpg
2/10 - Deadhead OG - The first day after I got this plant, she looked full and happy. Now she looks sad. I had dropped my waterings from twice a day to once and I don't think she approved. I've gone back to twice a day again.
0210012043a.jpg
2/10 - Sour Kush - Supposedly a really hardy strain. You can see a tiny bit of new growth at the top, but this plant was only put into a pot 5-6 days ago.

2/10 - Watering schedule change; I think this is what I'm going to stick with when I start giving nutes tomorrow, at least for the first week. After that I'll start increasing nute strength. After veg, Superthrive will be removed from the cocktail.
9am - 1/4 strength Nutes, Superthrive, Cal/Mag, RO water, pH'd to 5.8-6.1
9am - Foliar feeding - https://www.rollitup.org/advanced-marijuana-cultivation/296685-lost-art-foliar-feeding.html - I figure it can't hurt unless I see some burn.
9pm - 1/4 strength Nutes, Superthrive, Cal/Mag, RO water, pH'd to 5.8-6.1

2/12 - Just decided to measure my plants and actually post my grow journal. The LSD has grown 2in in the last 2 days! The Madman is putting out new leaves and looking much, much healthier. Deadhead is finally holding it's leaves up. Trainwreck has 2 new leaves now. Sour Kush is just starting to push out new leaves, it's grown about 1/2in. Something has made a difference, whether it's the introduction of nutes or foliar feeding. I'm getting pretty excited about this.:lol::lol:

2/12 My room right now

Comments, advice, critiques are all appreciated

I had some K issues that I've worked out now (I added Delta-9 Silicate and Ocean Grown, Hygrozyme and Liquid Karma) but took me a little while to recognize. I've also learned the importance of flushing your medium. Now my plants are doing much better and have really enjoyed their increased space. Instead of going from 1 to 3 gallon pots, which was my original plan, I went to 5 gallons instead. My room is 4x4x7, so I figure I should use as much of it as possible. I have been topping and FIMming my plants in an effort to keep them all around the same height (aiming for <30in. and prob closer to 24-26") until I flip to 12/12. All the plants except for the LSD clone and Trainwreck are around 20-22". The Madman is about 16" in these pics. The Trainwreck was getting destroyed by the soil I'd bought and used for it. I just transplanted it into coco a few days ago and it's already getting greener, which makes me happy.

New hand watering regimen - 2x per day
per 1gal RO water: 5ml Cal/Mag+, 1ml Superthrive, 8ml Hygrozyme, 10ml PBP Grow, 5ml Delta9 Silicate, 5ml Delta9 Ocean Grown, 10ml Liquid Karma
ph'd to 5.8

The first LSD topping I took, I dipped in Clonex, stuck it in a 2" pot with coco/perl and sprayed it with water and superthrive for 2 weeks. It's now the plant in the 1 gallon RootBuilder II below. I'm looking for some advice on what to do with it. I can't wait for it to catch up with the other plants. Should I put it outside? Should I turn it into a mother? Its fan leaves are huge!
DSC00513.jpgDSC00512.jpg

This is the Trainwreck. This pic is 2 days old and it's already looking much better.
DSC00500.jpg

The Deadhead OG is a little less bushy than I thought it would be. I've just topped and FIMmed to let the side branches catch up a little, but hadn't yet in the pic.DSC00508.jpgDSC00506.jpg

The Sour Kush is surprisingly bushy. It doesn't recover from FIMming as quickly as the Deadhead or LSD. The side branches catch up for longer before the top begins to grow again.
DSC00504.jpgDSC00503.jpg

I can't believe how well the Madman OG recovered from it's brutal upbringing, but somehow it did. This is the plant from the 2L in the previous pictures. There was a little bit of algae growth on the roots that were against the wall of the 2L, but the green plastic helped a surprising amount. I didn't use anything to keep light out at all.
DSC00501.jpgDSC00502.jpg

Lastly is my first girl, the LSD. I took the top off since this pic, so 1 branch isn't sticking up like that anymore. It's looking better and better every day. If I actually get some subscribers, I'll start putting up pics more regularly.
DSC00509.jpgDSC00510.jpg

I could really use some help deciding what to do with my clone. Flower her? Mother her? Plant her outside? I've got a 15gal. pot outside I could use. I could also put her where I was planning on putting the Trainwreck. I've been feeding her the same concentration of nutrients that the other plants have been getting and the results have been amazing.

The pic below with my hand in it is showing the branch that pushed out 4 nodes at its top.

I staked most of the plants on 3/30. They have really filled in nicely. As soon as my migraine is gone I'm going to take some pics, crop a bit, then take some more. I'll have them posted by tomorrow night.

Ok, that wasn't quite what I was planning on doing. I didn't feel like taking two pics of every plant, especially since they're still in veg. I am beginning flower as soon as I can get a 400w light from my buddy so I can keep vegging the Trainwreck and LSD clone (which is now also going outside) and harden them off before I plant them in the ground. If it doesn't happen tomorrow, I'm going to start flowering anyhow, the plants are too big otherwise.

I just got a bunch of nutes from the buddy I'm getting the light from (Diamond Nectar and Liquid Karma being the 2 most important right now). The plants are doing amazingly well and flowering will be awesome!

Sorry for the lack of description with the pics. The Trainwreck is featured prominently in a number of the pics. It's still small, but has recovered really well. The LSD clone is going crazy and I can't wait to see how it performs outside.

You can see a couple of yellow balloons on the floor of the tent. They are part of my yeast+sugar CO2 generator. I need to buy some more tubing before I can right the whole tent. I'm planning on suspending the gallon jugs from the ceiling to make it easier for the CO2 to reach the plants. Hope the bottles don't pop!

The plants are a maximum of 24". Anything over that gets topped/FIMmed.

Feedback is welcome, this is my first grow.

Flowering has finally begun! I've switched my lights over to 12/12 and changed my nute solution once again. I'm still basing it off of PBP, with their Bloom product. I have also added: Liquid Carboload and Delta-9 Trigger Bloom. I've been using a few other Delta-9 products, namely Ocean Grown (Kelp extract) and silicate, and have been happy with them. I picked up some Phosphoload from a friend and am excited to use it after reading the positive reviews on this site and others. Here are my pics for the day. I've included a diagram of my current room setup so it's easy to see which plants are which.

I've swapped the MH bulb for a 600w Super Hortilux HPS bulb. I've also gotten rid of the balloons on the CO2 generators in favor of tubing running directly to the plants.

The two plants which are outside are easier to differentiate; the small one (for now) is the Trainwreck (18") while the larger one is the LSD clone (24" already!) I took. The Trainwreck also finally has some roots showing at the bottom of the pot and they look amazingly healthy. When I transplanted, the root system was complex but extremely thin so I'm glad the transplant solved its problems. The second area with a grow light is where the outside plants are staying while inside. I'm in the process of hardening them off and should have that completed in the next week at the latest. The 2L dome in the center of the tub is another LSD clone I took when I did my final trim before flowering. While the clone is lit with a CFL in the picture, there is a 400w MH that I use when it's not just the clone. 400w for a single clone seemed like a complete waste to me.

Both the Trainwreck and LSD will be planted tomorrow night 4/17. The location I'm putting the plants produced amazing tomatoes last year with only weekly watering. I have access to some amazing humus though, so I decided to supplement the soil a little. I just moved some oak leaves out of the way and started digging. This stuff smells awesome, there's nothing like natural compost. I also included some pics of the Oak it comes from, it's at least 100 years old and its trunk is probably 15-20 ft. around.

Here are some pics of a just finished transplant into soil. I was planning on doing it this evening but helped a friend move some things into storage instead so I didn't get to plant till about midnight. I mixed some of the oak tree dirt, coco, perlite, Pure fertilizer, and some water retention crystals. I also removed the bottom branches from the plants and scored the base of the trunk with a razor blade. I also cut my finger with it! Nothing like working with your hands in dirt with an open cut to make you feel safe. It kind of made me wonder if my plants would turn out like the one from Little Shop of Horrors and demand blood in exchange for bud. Tired and stoned is a good way to end a day or for those of you who can't read but made it this far: + :eyesmoke: =.

Flowers have finally shown up. Each of the plants, with the exception of the Madman OG, is over 24". All of them are extremely bushy with multiple top colas.

This first pic is of the Deadhead OG. It looks the most sativa-like out of the 4.
Deadhead.jpg

This is one of the Madmen OG flowers. I took this pic while it was still in the tent, so the color is off.Madmen OG Flower.jpg

The Sour Kush is coming along nicely.

The trunk is really thick as well.
SK Trunk.jpg

The LSD is my oldest plant by a few weeks. It has a significant amount more nodes than any of the other plants as many of the lower branches had time to grow to the top of the plant. The photo with my hand shows what is actually the top of the plant.
LSD Whole.jpgLSD3.jpgLSD4.jpgLSD.jpgLSD2.jpgLSD6.jpgLSD5.jpgLSD1.jpg

Here are the two plants outside. I have been using the white metal to train the plants using LST in the hopes that they will grow huge, but not tall. The LSD is in a spot where it is going to get more sun, so I expect it to get bigger quicker. There is a little bit of bug damage on one of the leaves of the LSD, but it looks like whatever took a few bites moved on since I couldn't find it.

The LSD has some enormous leaves, much larger than the mother plant in the tent.
DSC00601.jpgDSC00604.jpgDSC00600.jpgDSC00611.jpg

The Trainwreck has been growing well, it just looks like it hasn't been by comparison to the LSD.
DSC00608.jpgDSC00607.jpg

The plants in the tent are on Day 16 of flower. They have started to develop some great bud sites. The tent is just beginning to smell a little bit, so I'm glad I've got the carbon filter already hooked up. I also had a little bit of over-fert issues early in flower, so there are a few damaged leaves in the pics. I've already corrected the issues, but the leaves aren't going to change. For reference, the plant stakes I use are about 2' tall from the surface of the coco.

The Deadhead OG is losing more leaves than the other 3 strains, but it's been growing new ones much faster so I haven't been too concerned. That and I'm not changing my nutes for 1 of 4 plants.
DSC00612.jpgDSC00617.jpgDSC00615.jpg

The Madman OG is growing nicely although I wish it had grown vertically a bit more before I flowered. That's my fault for almost killing it though.
DSC00619.jpgDSC00620.jpgDSC00623.jpg

The Sour Kush is looking beautiful. I'm hoping it continues to grow as easily as it has been.
DSC00625.jpgDSC00628.jpgDSC00632.jpgDSC00634.jpg

The indoor LSD is exploding. I've been trying to keep it from overtaking the other plants around it. I really hope the this strain is as good as I've heard since I'm going to have a ton of it. The discolored leaves in these photos is light burn. That branch grew at least an inch between flowering one day and I just didn't move the light in time.

Quick update since there's a Laker game tonight. 21 days into flower.

This list is mostly for me, but here is the flowering time for my plants.
Madman OG
8 weeks
LSD
9 - 10 weeks
Deahead OG
9 1/2 - 10 1/2 weeks
Sour Kush
9 - 11 weeks

Outdoor plants:
Trainwreck - It's funny how this photo makes it look like the plant is trying to get away from the sunlight.

The genetics for my grow:
Deadhead OG - '91 Chemdawg(skunk va) X SFV OGK F4
Sour Kush - Bubba Kush x Sour Diesel
Madman OG - OG Kush x LA Confidential
Barney's Farm LSD - Mazar x Skunk #1

No problems so far, except for the running issues with the Madman. I'm just going to be happy with whatever it produces after nearly killing it. The LSD is growing pretty aggressively and filling any space that it can with side branches. All the plants are starting to get covered in trichomes and they look amazing. When I think about how much bigger/denser/stinkier they are going to get I can't wait and wish I was closer to the finish. It'll be worth it though. Since the last posting, I've fixed my CO2 generators, throwing out the one that spilled. On to the pics!

LSD - When I look at this, sometimes it's hard to believe that it's only 1 plant.

I tried to take a couple of magnified photos just using a handheld lens. They came out ok.

I was given a USB microscope but couldn't get it to work until yesterday. These pics are only going to get more awesome as the plants ripen.

Sour Kush - Nothing much to say about this. The buds look good, but the Deadhead and LSD have larger growth so far.

I had taken an LSD clone just before flower and have been trying to figure out what to do with it. One of the dispensaries I am a member is supplied completely by members. They gave me the Bubba Kush clone when I joined but it wasn't ready until this week.
So now I've got 2 more plants to grow/flower...looks like a perpetual grow for me for a bit.

I use a small jar to hold the net pot for the clones I take. That's where the shape of the roots comes from. I had to plant in the net pot because the root system was too complex to remove without damaging it.

The LSD is going nuts, I'm going to have to start training soon or it's going to get out of control.

The Trainwreck isn't doing too badly either.

No comments?. Are the flowers developing well? I'll have some new pics up tomorrow that should be awesome and I'd definitely appreciate some comments.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

On to the pics, don't forget to comment. I can't stop smiling when I look at them.

Just got some corrected info. The Sour Kush I've been growing is actually (Larry O.G x Sour D. x Sage).

Outdoor veg pics first - It's been raining so the plants have been getting more water than I have been giving them. They've exploded in the last few days.

LSD - It's the size of the trashcan in the background.

Madman OG - Still not a happy plant, but at least the buds will be smokeable. They are decent sized and I'm hoping they will fill in a bit more.

LSD - This plant is doing well, it still has about 2 weeks to go. Some of the buds look awesome, some look like they'll need those 2 weeks.

Sour Kush - This plant is looking pretty tasty. It's definitely nice and strong. A small branch accidentally broke the other day so I smoked it. It tasted like $#!% but definitely smacked me in the face. It's got 3-4 weeks to go.

Deadhead OG - I can't wait to try this one out. The buds are all about the size and shape of ping pong balls right now. It's got another 3 weeks of flower and from what I've read it really fills out in the last week or so. Beautiful, frosty buds.
