Indoor 150w hps + cfl closet grow

k guys n gals i wanted to go ahead and make a journal entry for ppl to observe my 2nd official grow. My first grow was actually only a flowering grow, got like 10 grams off it dried using 3 cfls's, it was alright .

So i consider this my first real "good" (hopefully) grow, ive done lots of research online and i think i can do it now, Also if it doesnt work out as well as i hoped then at least i learn a thing or two lol. I also wanted to make this journal so it can push me to really try and make this grow work out, any feedback will be much appreciated.

But here's what i have as a set up....
Three 26watt cfl 6500k.... 2 pack $8?,, single for $5
150w hps from Sun System, ebay price... $78 bucks with free shipping
small corner table to place pots on...Free
cardboard boxes to elevate my plants closer to lights.... FRee
Cool Breeze standing fan left on low for air circulation and temperature controll.. FREE
Power strip $5?
Aquarium Timer bought from petco... $10
Reptile thermometer from a petstore $5
Happy frog potting soil... $25 shipping added to price.
cfl sockets (2 were from lamps from a petshop i use to use with my reptiles i had/have $10each) and bought another desk clamp light from walmart also $10

Nutrients: Grow big for veg.. $15
For flowering..
open sesame..$30
Beastie Bloomz..$30
Cha Ching.. $30

Total Spent on supplies.... about $250 (not including wat i alredy had)

Im growing 3 bagseed plants ATM, i will prolly end up with 2 or maybe 1 plant depending how big it gets when im in flowering and i have 3 because i want more chances of females.

Ive been vegging the plant in the white clay pot for about 3 and a half weeks, it grew slow at first but now it is starting to take off, i had it in a smaller pot and had to transplant again so i decided to put it in the final grow container if it is a female that is to early to tell still, she went thru a small transplant shock, no biggie shes starting to perk up again, and also she does have like 2 deformed leaves other than that leaves are green and healthy no yellowing what so ever.. used GB twice alredy

The second one is about a week and a half old (the one in the big plastic pot) that one is really taking off great, that was my expiremental one, i wanted to see if i could start the seedling then put it in its final grow container and compare the results to my older one in the clay pot and its almost bigger than it alredy! no nutrients used it, im waiting till i hit the 2 week mark then gonna use GB at about less than half strength, im also going to LST this one here when it gets a bit taller.

the third one i might just give it to a friend so im not really gunna worry about that one much..

So hopefully i have ppl that join the ride with me.

Ill update this every 2 days or so if i have time.

Sounds like you have a good idea about how to start a grow. I'd recommend a couple more bulbs, just for a little extra kick. I have about 500 watts of light in my setup. Looks great though!

thanks, yea i want more lighting, ill get more cfl's as soon as i get more sockets, i dont wana over due it and plug all that power into 1 timer also, ill end up gettin an extra timer and cfl's soon most likely, ill also veg for a while longer till theyre way taller.

gonna start GB(Grow big) today for the plant in the plastic pot, its really growing nice n fat age: 2 weeks today !

The plant in the clay white pot is finally perking up again, it was in stress from a transplant but its lookn real good. Age: 3 days till 4 weeks

and i still have the 3rd plant dunno what ima do whit it i dont have much room, but the roots havnt grown out of its pot yet, i might keep it i just need to find room. age: almost 2 weeks real slow growth cuz of pot size.

Im not sure what grow method i should start right now, give me some ideas please dunno if i should lst or wat

heres another update on my grow from 3-4 days ago, they're doing great, no diffeciencies what so ever, just happy green leaves, happy leaves from happy frog potting soil



i recently took out the cfl's i was using and the plants really seem to like just the lil 150 by itself, im gunna buil a veg area right under the table im growing on right now in about a month.

the one in the white pot isnt in shock anymore and really is growing nicely and so is the other one. i still got the annoying little one im prolly gunna dump it soon.

so the white potted one is about a month old now for sure and the other bigger plant in the grey pot is 2 and a half weeks old, hope none goes male when i switch them to 12/12 in 2 weeks though :/

but other than that im happy with my results so far

Looking nice man. The one in the smaller white pot definitely needs more root room. I've noticed by transplanting plants into a bigger pot they pick-up on heavy growth and become healthy. So, if you're wanting to keep 3 plants I would definitely put it in a 3 or 5 gal pot. IMHO

Hey man, the setup and knowledge you have so far are a great start, but if I would suggest one thing it would be more light! CFL's are cheap and easy to get, but MAKE SURE you get 6500K bulbs (natural daylight color spectrum) or your growth will slow...
Here is the easiest and cheapest way I know of to get a good amount of light for a samll grow like us!

Light bulb fixture plug--- $2 at Home Depot
Light socket T --- $1.5o at Home Depot
Power strip if you dont have an extra one layin around dollar general carries them for about 4 bucks...

put lots of T's into the socket plugs and use 23 watt 6500k bulbs to keep power consumption down!!!! '

thanks for your input man, i just wanted to run this grow with a 150 hps and some cfls just to test it out, im alredy gettin supplies on my next grow ill be doing, but im looking into gettin a MH for the next grow

plus my bill hasnt even gone up much at all, nothn more than 6 to 7 bucks more a month? maybe less idk, my pc runs more power lol.

so this is my next update, i just hit my plants with the last dose of GB and they grew very nicely so far

had a little heat stress on the bigger plant but didnt burn it much at all, just had to raise my fan higher on a box and solved the problem

plant in the white pot is now 5 weeks old and the other is 4 weeks old (month old)
im waiting till the soil dries, then gunna flush after another watering maybe? idk let me know how i should do it please?

and then im going 12/12 and hope to see only females no males so fingers crossed

how they lookin?

Update----
plants are about 2 inches shy from a foot, theyre 2nd day in 12/12 light are gunna come on at 6am to 6 pm, im giving the first feeding of open sesame wen i get up in the morning i needed sum time to dry after i flushed my plants, theyve moved to 3 gallon pots and also i have a clone now forgot the name lol ill post it later, cant put pics atm.

Update----
so i guess the roots alredy out grew their new pots pretty crazy, it took them about a week to out grow a 3 gallon pot from a 6.5quart pot bfore that. So wen light go on again im gonna do a rapid transplant into a 7.90 gallon pot i got at home depot... only BIG ones they had lol, also i did use the open sesame today, hopefully i dont get any stress from the transplant

sorry for the late reply, i vegged for about 4 and a half weeks to 5 maybe im not sure. i let it get about 10inches bfore 12/12. its been on 12/12 for a couple weeks now and is about 1 foot 2 inches now. im doin a quick update now.

Update------ 1/6/2011

havent updated in a about a week or so and its been about weeks since i posted a dam pic.

I had to throw one out because 1 turned male but the other one is female guaranteed!
its showing white hairs already, not much yet, id show u a pic of the hairs if i could but my camera is shitty..
here she is - (SHE GOT HUGE ALREADY)



My current set up consist of....half a closet space, the ones apartments have with the sliding glass door, 1 150w hps, 2 26w cfls (using 6500k and 2700k for mixed spectrum) aluminum foil to help reflection a lil, a small corner table to have the pot on. and happy tree frog soil from fox farms and used only grow big for veg and using open sesame, beastie bloomz and cha ching for flower.

ive used different pot sizes throughout this grow so far, 1st was a small clay pot not sure of the size, then to 6.5q pots, to 3 gallon pots and now using a 7.90 gallon pot for this girl i updated on, lol the dam roots grew to fast on me for some reason.

oh and forgot to mention i gave the clone to a friend hes vegging it for me and hes gonna grow it with cfls and were gunna split harvest with that, i had no room really for it, oh well
