My first grow: White Rhino and Early Widow w/ 600W HPS

Hey guys,

This is my first grow and actually my first post on RIU

My seedlings are currently 2-3 days old and they've been under the 600W HPS which is about a meter above the plants since yesterday.

6 of them are White Rhino and the one I marked with a red square is an Early Widow.
I really don't know what's wrong with the Early Widow seedling, the cotyledon doesn't look too good. Any ideas of what may be wrong with it?

This pic was taken yesterday just after I moved them from the fluoros to the HPS. Shitty quality as it was taken with my cell phone lol:

My White Rhinos are from Green House Seed Co.

Anyway, I had a some bagseeds of an unknown strain germinating but only 4 of them actually germinated so I put them in pots today.
Here are some crappy cell phone pics, I'll try to take my camera tomorrow.

My babies are now a week old except for the 4 I started from bagseeds and they all seem to be doing fine.

Ok, I'm a bit worried about my plants, especially this one.
It has lots of brown spots on the bigger leaves, the new leaves look fine though and so do the other plants.
I'm a bit surprised that the plants I started from bagseeds are much bigger than the plants I started 11 days ago lol

I grew 5 White Rhinos from Greenhouse... Total disaster of genetics.... Dont be surprised with shitty buds and no high. Also, it takes ages for flowers to develop. Leaves and stems are looking awesome, but buds were zero points!! I hope you get better results but I doubt. Greenhose is one big mess. I never buy from them no more.

Bagseeds always have a better kick start. but later you never know what will you get out of those.... Brown spots, shouldnt occur so early. Something is not healthy there.. Why don't you use MH bulb for vegetetaion? You are missing a lot...

My friend's grown Green House White Rhinos before and he said he got a decent yield and that they were a good smoke lol.
I don't have that much money to spare as I'm currently unemployed and even though a MH bulb would be better, a HPS should do just fine.

Even the one that has spots on the first 2 leaves has grown and new leaves are looking healthy.

Ok, Your friend had good buds, and I had shitty buds and shitty high. That is exactly what I wanted to tell you: UNSTABLE GENETICS of Greenhouse... They were good till they didn't decide to produce females only..., So, especially if unemployed stay away from Greenhouse seeds for some time till they master their products... If you ask Greenhouse (I found the answer on icmag.com, answered by Franco) what is their most stable genetics, he will say AMS (anti mold sistem) and Trainwreck. So only 2 stable genetics among dozen of strains they make... And who is interested in AMS? Nobody LOL.... Unless you want to buy their Hazes... It only takes 16 weeks to flower

I forgot, In the same batch with Rhinos i grew Himalaya Gold, and GWShark. HG was good daily high, with excellent looking big buds but again all HG looked different among them. GWS, one plant was very nice with thick buds, light weight thou. Other GWS was different, with smaller fluffy buds and mild high. All greenhouse... So I switched to Seedsman... Great stable genetics...
Anyway keep us posted...

HPS will do, but the thickness of branches is a different story with MH. I did my first ever grow only with HPS. After that I learned lesson

We'll see how this comes out and if I don't like the results I'll probably get seeds from a different seedbank for my next grow

I'll probably get another ballast and a MH bulb after this harvest anyway but the HPS will have to do for now lol.
I'm thinking about vegging for another week so I can harvest by the end of the year, do you think that'll be too early to flower and do you have any idea of how much each plant will yield?

BTW, I forgot to mention I planted another 5 bagseeds yesterday so that makes it 16 plants, 7 of which are feminized so I'm hoping to get 10 to 12 females

I use the same balast for MH and HPS. Why would you need another balast? I just change bulbs. I always veg mine for 4 weeks on a MH bulb. With such setup you will have plants already developed enough of branches and the main stem will be very thick, veeeery thick. I love MH!!!!! Veging under HPS, give them another week extra, 5 weeks at least. Check my thread, you will see pic of my batch, one month old from seed unde MH. I just switched seven days ago to flowering.

My ballast will work with a MH bulb too but I want to set up separate veg/flower rooms
