Weedy ladies sunbathing

I haven't kept this journal here so far, but it seems like it might be useful for some others here, so here goes.

I'm growing six plants outdoors in sunny SoCal. Three are a Blue Dream strain, two are Black Ice and one is Ice. (so three sativa-dominant and three indica dominant, for those keeping track at home.)

They were started from dispensary clones and put outside when they were about 6 inches high, at the end of May. Now the healthiest sativa is about 45" high and the healthiest indica is about 30". They're growing in a mixture of FoxFarm Ocean, old cheap potting soil, worm castings and perlite. The pots are HUGE, because I want xmas trees, dammit! :eyesmoke:

I'm using Azamax and SM-90 every 7-10 days for insect control, plus I squish everything that crawls or flies at least once a day. Tried diluted nutes earlier on -- Maxsea 16-16-16 diluted to 1/2 tsp/gal in RO water -- but I think I burned them. So now I'm letting the soil be enough, with occasional drinks of the Maxsea nutes just because I'm a newbie.

Speaking of which, I've made a lot of the usual newbie mistakes. Flooded these babies by leaving on a drip system TWICE. And when I say flooded, I mean swimming-pool-grade flooding. But they're tough and the soil drains very well. I'm trying not to love these weeds to death. Below are the pix from 1-July and one extra from yesterday which shows a thrip I found accidentally when taking a close-up shot.

All advice is welcome. I have a huge amount to learn!

:peace:

Thanks! I just do a quick reply, and click on the Add Image icon (third from the right under the words Quick Reply), then paste in the image link (http://whatever.jpg). I'd actually rather it was sized down and clickable for zoom, but I can't figure out how without using Attachments, which is annoying and only shows little images. You gotta get up close to see what's really going on with these plants.

The girls, July 7, 2010.

On the left, 3 Blue Dream (from front to back, Maya, Linnea and Odele); on the right, a Black Ice I call Lela (the runt). Next from front to back an Ice strain I call Crystal. On the back on the right side is T, my prize Black Ice strain.

Nothing much to report. Was gonna start BT today as a preventative on worms, but the light drizzle stopped me. Probably will drop some Mother's Earth tea on the girls later today.

I posted this in the plant problems thread, so let me know if I'm not supposed to also post it here:

I feel stupid asking this question, but why is it that my Black Ice plants and ONLY those two plants have these pronounced 'growths' for lack of a better word at each node? I've never actually seen a plant flower, so this is kinda freaking me out. I think I can even see some resin in there. Are some strains just weird that way? Is there any chance that this totally healthy plant that's just vegging out beautifully is somehow switching to flowering in the middle of the summer outside? :wtf:

I saw your other post and thought how much it looked like my pre-98 Bubba. I vegged it for awhile and thought I would keep it out of the flower box and keep it outside.

It is now flowering pretty good. I thought it would try and re-veg but it hasn't. I actually put it in a corner with not a lot of light. (I have others outdoors up on my hill, they are not flowering).

I'm not sweating it, as soon as I pull my flowering plants I will stick this one to flower under the HPS. :joint::peace:

PS - I'm up in SmelLa

Spot the pot: :):weed:

Everything's going smoothly (knock on wood). The tallest plants are over six feet now (in their pots). Lela and T (Black Ice), and Maya (Blue Dream) started, but seems to be reverting now that the sun is back big time. Spraying with Azamax/SM-90 every 8-10 days and spraying with a Safer brand organic insecticidal soap in the middle of that cycle. BT on a 3 week cycle. Nutes weekly (is that enough?) -- Mother's Earth Tea. Hoping for a lot of sun for the next few months.

Looks like at least three of the six plants are flowering for some reason that's not clear yet. Here's the thread if you're interested.

https://www.rollitup.org/marijuana-plant-problems/347102-wtf.html

Depending upon where you are, the days start getting shorter on June 21st-ish, so if the genetics are quick or have some ruderalis in them?? They could go to flowering early. Were these ever indoors? If so what light schedule were they on inside? If it was a big swing in hours of sun, that could trigger them too. Also if you are taking them in at night you could be shortening the light cycle too.

Just some guesses. Mine just started pre flowering a bit a week or so ago, I'm in Colorado.

thanks. been through those checks...here's the thread: https://www.rollitup.org/marijuana-plant-problems/347102-wtf.html

strain is confirmed (at least the best growers here locally trust them), not autoflowers, clones out since end of May, from 24/0 to outside over one week via shade, no inside moves (they weigh a LOT), no dark bag, nothing but a few cloudier-than-normal and cooler-than-normal weeks. Some say this can't cause flowering, but there it is. I'm in San Diego. This shouldn't be happening seems to be the consensus. But it is! Two Black Ice are still flowering under full hot sun, but the Blue Dream seems to be reverting. We'll see.

If you read this, let me know somehow...I'm about to delete this thread because it doesn't seem like anybody monitors grow journals here so what's the point really

Update time.

First is Odele:

My baby T. God I hope I don't fuck this up:

Crystal, showing some sort of nutrient deficiency (Zn? Fe? Mg? Mn?) I THINK is from a pH increase caused by misuse of organic nutes:
03aug10-3.jpg

Lela, the runt. Sometimes I wonder if she'll end up giving the biggest final yield:

Maya the giant, buds shooting everywhere in that skinny sativa way:

Linnea, the thirstiest of the girls, starting to look nice:

Hope you enjoyed the show!

Hey Chemo, fellow SD grower here and your plants are looking awesome. I also appreciate your input on the budworm thread. However, if your only purpose for keeping a journal is to receive kudos and affirmation from unknown people on the internet, then perhaps a journal is not for you.

I keep a journal so I know what's going on with my grow. I cannot keep track of my various plants, feeding schedules, bug spray schedules and whatnot without a journal. Doing it here in this forum makes it easy for me. Of course I enjoy it when people chime in and contribute to my journal, but I'm not going to quit posting just because I'm not getting attention. That would be silly, right?

Keep up the good growing and KEEP POSTING. Best of luck to you.

Attention is not an issue, although it's nice when it comes. I keep journals elsewhere for actual tracking and get good advice and help. This one is in an attempt to entertain and educate others because it seemed like there were a lot of learners up here. But I don't want to waste my time if no one's watching. Thanks for letting me know.
