Fluorescent/CFL Grow (Bagseed)

Whats up RIU!? I currently have a bagseed sprout that is 11 days old. It is under a 40W 4' Growlux Fluorscent tube that is in an old garage (probably 1950's) The dust and bug factor is a concern for me but nothing has effected the plant yet, so I'm not gonna stress for now. I have it in a cup of soil I had under my deck. At the transplant stage I want to use organic soil. There's a lot of things at the moment I want to do with it but am not sure that I'll be able to. Basically this one is my experimental plant. I want to learn from this one and try all out with my next one. Since I am on a SUPER small budget I want to grow with CFLs until I can afford an HPS from ebay. I'll probably get the CFLs in the next couple weeks. Right now I have the fluorscent fixture covered with white paper to direct the light better. At the end of this week I will get one of those emergency blankets from Walmart to use the mylar. Any comments, suggestions or anything I will be completely open to as I have gone into this having an open mind and am prepared for the best and the worst. Thanks!

So I transplanted my 2 week old into a bigger pot today. As I was trying to get her out of her old pot of course the dirt fell apart due to not watering the night before. I think I'm a master. haha. Well I lost a couple of the roots when I did this but not the taproot. Will it be okay? And should I water it now as well as give it nutrients or should I wait?

Hey thanks for the site! I read it right before I did the transplant but none of it worked out to plan haha. It's okay. I'm doing another bagseed grow here soon and will be using fox farm soil. Going to germinate the seed tonight. Can't wait! +rep

no worries man, the upside down plant pot technique changed my horticultural life!

good luck :)

Well we are now at 17 days. I fed her her first nutes last night. Hopefully all goes well with that! My other seed has not germinated yet so I think it might be a dud. Oh well. It seems the transplant didn't stunt her growth one bit. She's still trucking along as if nothing happened.

The bulbs are pretty much touching the foliage. I am rotating between the artificial lights and real sunlight. it doesnt seem to get stressed when i move it. this fuckin plant is a champ. But like I said, I'm buying a 150W HPS on Wednesday, hope to have it in by next week. :)

oh rad! let me know how you get on with the HPS, i'm looking around at them too, have too many plants for my CFL right now!

also, i've heard sunlight does wonders for MJ, so the rotations are probably doing it some good. i left mine out when it was sunny yesterday :)

We are now at 3 weeks and two days old. It's been doing really well. Been feeding nutes every other day and watering in between. One of the CFLs burned one its leaves the other day :( but it seems to be ok. It's growing so fast, its wild. Here are some pics. HPS is estimated to be here this coming Wednesday :D

looking good! are you gonna continue using the CFL once the HPS comes? you can use both for better results as the CFL provides the blue light needed for vegging.

also, you can get a metal halide converter bulb to use for vegging, not too expensive and can be used in your HPS housing. HPS is all good on its own though, perfect for flowering :)

I will probably still use a few CFLs but I'm trying to keep the electric bill as cheap as possible. We'll see. If I LST it then I probably won't really need the CFLs correct?

probably not, since all of the plant will be exposed to the light. i think you need to start LST early though, but check other sources on that. the CFLs just provide a bit more blue light, ideal for vegging.
