the ghetto grow..

so today im updating.. this is my first grow im on a low low budget and ill take what i can get.. theres diff ways to learn and my way of learning is hands on trial and error. Now the pics below are the most recent takin on 11-4-09 no clue how old my plants are.. i should have been keeping a calendar but o well.. today i cut 3 clones from the big lady outside.. since half the plant is dying due to no heat source and chilling temps @ night. those 3 will be 1,2 and 3 hopefully by the end of the week theyll have roots and ill snap a shot of those..

now the 3 tallest n those pics ive started LST training.. just by sticking metal hooks into the dirt.. 1 of the 3 is already doing good one the LST route to recovery she was the tallest, the smallest ones are the smallest b/c i germinated those n a wet Ptowel n the tall one were planted directly into my medium

my grow room stays @ about 84 degrees f n the on postion n i have no clue what it is when lights are off

also a few days ago.. when i transplanted i bought the shultz 10-15-10.. gave them all nute burn.. so im going to wait a while before doing it again.. n this time follow directions better

of yeah one more thing.. i got this bug spray mostly because spider mites.. are horrible.. i dunno if its just me but ive lost all my outdoor plants due to spider mites.. so i hope the stuff i got will do the trick from here on out.. i believe it is called.. ortho ecosense brand outdoor bug spray..

and that has worked on tall stem she is one that i brought from outside.. she drooped i brought her back she got spider mites. then someone dissed my grow i got pissed neglected her and now come to find out she is n re-veg so.. im gonna keep the experiments coming.. hopefully tomorrow i can make some reflectors with those beer cans i saw on here.. that was a really good do it yourselfer!!

Lookin good man.

Hey, fuck those jerks that dis your grows. Those trolls are everywhere.

So like you are back and forth indoor/outdoor huh? yea, ya pick up spidermites outside quickly. those things are so small they fly through the air on a breeze.

Problem is indoors there are not the usual predators as outside to kill them and the mites flourish. I hate the dam things.

Tell ya what though, you really got to get rid of them before you do anything else.
They suck the life right out of your grow and you dont even see them. They will move from plant to plant once the plants get larger too.

Heres what I learned about the things. #1 is they dont die with one treatment. there are 3 stages, Eggs, Juveniles and Adults.
You kill the adults and juveniles on the first spray then wait two weeks and spray again. Even if you dont see anything. The second spray is timed right you will kill the juveniles that hatched from the eggs before they can turn into adults and lay eggs.

Thats how you kill them.

The eggs are under the leaf so thats where you spray them, whatever you use.
Be sure to spray water the next day to wash it off so the plant can still breath.

spidermites dont like water or cool temps.

On the feeding I agree with you, good idea to read directions. Another good idea is to use half of what they recommend and see what happens.

I hope I was of some help man.
Oh, beer can reflectors, Unless you got a bunch of beer cans laying around a cheap reflector is to use aluminum oven liners.
They cost like $5 and you get two to a pack at most food markets.

Good luck Emily
Plants looking good I'm sure cruzer help you with anything and I'll try and keep a eye on this thread.
Spider-mites nasty bastards, I would spray once then flush and do the same 2 weeks later

Spray for bugs? yes it would harm it. Just foliar spray of water or light nutes no it wouldnt. I am not much of a fan of foliar spray. The only time I do it is when I need to get something into the plant in a hurry. Most times I dont spray at all.

Two things to remember if you do spray, first is light will magnify the light so it is best to do it at lights off and second is the plant breaths through the bottom of the leaf through openings called stomna's when you spray the bottom of the leaf with anything besides water that will remain on the leaf. You need to spray it with water the next day to wash it off so the stomna can open.

nah dude get those lights much closer. those plants are stretching pretty bad from the looks of the pics. cfls arent really worth much unless they are about 2 inches from the plant. jmo

Thats a good point, I just looked closer at the pics and they could be closer.

Ya know another thing. The girl you brought in from outside with the long stem.
You could repot her and bury the stem some. Then roots will grow out the side of the stem and the plant will be much more strudy and eaiser to maintain.

Otherwize lookin good!

now the tallest stretched ones like i said before im going the low stress route hoping for a bushy harvest?!
those are the three and soon i plan on doing it to most of the longer ones..

the one that looks mostly like a weird peacock plant is the lady n reveg.. shes the one i brought n from outside ive got rid of most the spider mites on her.. however im still spraying water the foliar way.. just to keep sure..

i do plan on adding a few more lights this week and imaging a exhaust system is n order i seen the carbon in the pencil holder with the sock looked efficient enough for me..
any suggestions.. ill keep the updates coming if any 1 is interested.:bigjoint:

Well, look on the bright side, You got the peacock lady. You saved her from spidermites.
We can take cuttings from her, If you dont know how I can walk ya through it.

She will need a couple weeks then once you cut them they will take about a month to get to where you are now with the small males.

But its doable.

afternoon everyone.. well considering where yur at.. this is me updating on my so called ghetttto grow.. not so much ghettto tho because im seeing results..

i guess using a cfl, led or the big lights that use balasts n stuff. is exactly like one preferring a certain kind of baseball bat they all pretty much do the same thing but depending on the circumstances one uses what they can get their hands on po-tay-toe, po-tot-oh

anywho on to my ladies n the wardrobe. i went thru last week n thought my outcome was horrid. that 8 of them were male.. but after a week i was sure to tell.. turns out 6 were female.. however to keep six i wood need more lighting so i just kept 4.. i also transplanted them to 8in pots.. now n due time i will transfer them to larger pots.

yesterday i also went to a different wal mart.. and i found a pack of 6 27 watt cfls .. can yu believe that!! i totally bought them the difference n a 3 pack from my wal mart n the 6 pack was like $1.88 wtf!! it was my lucky day..

now so its easier for us to tell the difference.. im just gonna call them by name.. pinky is the pink bucket susanis in the orange bucket LIL is in the purple pot rachel is n the green bucket

susan was put n her pot like a week ago she looke like she likes it.. i still havent given any more nutes.. i will soon...
pinky is the low stress training plant.. hopefully shell go all the way around this pot then when i tranfer her i can start her around the other rim!

also soon enuf i will be hooking up an exhaust system with some kind of filter.. i mean the smell is scrumptious but to risky..

ok well any constructive critism is greatly appreciated haters yu can go F yurself n the A.. ill try to update again soon

Hi Emily,

Great news.
So, sounds like you have four healthy females. Right on girl.
Thats cute how you color coded and gave them all names.

Thanks for the post, keepin us informed and all.

I would just like to mention a little somethin I found out about lights.
As you know plants go through veg and flower stage right?
Sometimes the po-tay-to light will work to veg but when it comes to flower a more powerfull light like a po-tah-to will get you more buds.

But both will work. Most improtant is to have fun.
I look forward to new pictures of your girls.

hmmm i see so depending on how long i have to veg is enuf time to find a better light for my girls... i had the money n my hand the other day but with black friday coming.. i had to reconsider.. so let me ask if i were to get a po-tah-to wood i have to also purchase a ballast and should i focus on getting a certain brand that is universal? one that wood support a MH bulb and a HPS bulb??

yur the only one who comments back to these thank yu i apperciate yu know how.

Ya know, it really depends on how much you want.

You got four girls the optimum lighting would be a 400 watt HPS.
That could get you up to an oz a plant.

Your best bet if you want to go that route cheap is check craigslist.
If thats a no go then Ebay. Local hydro shops make there rent on lights.

You should be able to buy used for $100 and new for about $150 on ebay.
But buy it all together, well the ballast and the hood. That way the plugs match. Most of the new electronic ballasts will run both MH and HPS. But if you had to choose only one get the hps.

On the other hand,
If you were to go get another one of those six packs of 27 w cfls this time get soft white or a color temp of around 3000k for a nice mix and say had 12 of those around the girls you would get up to 1/2 oz a plant.

Your probably thinking how the hell am I going to plug in 12 lightbulbs?

Well if you want to do this, it is a great way to go.

What you do is go to your local hardware store and ask them for bathroom vanity lights. The light itself hangs above the mirror in the bath. They are cheap. Buy three of them for like $15 a piece and a couple cheap extention cords. like the six footers. Cut the ends off the expention cords and attach the wires to the vanity lights. Well one at a time. Then plug them all into a $5 lamp timer. I have three of them, Each rack holds four bulbs. I also cut one in half so I could have two bulbs on each side.

wow very informative.. if yu dont mind me asking.. how long have yu been growing..

i like yur first idea about looking on ebay which i have done.. lol i think there is well many for 119$ and cheaper have yu ever ordered any of these? i have enuf space to make the veg chamber and the flower chamber.. so all the light bulbs i have purchased wont be in vain lol my girl will kick my ass..

funny i just posted a thread. i didnt kno how to get back to this are they working on upgrading things??

Yes, they did just mess this up for a day or two.
My control panel is still different but it loads faster now.

I been growing for a couple years now. I just grow for personal.

Yea,, there is a guy on ebay I think HGT or something like that. Hes good.

Just look next to the sellers name, see that number? If its big then he has more to lose if he dont deliver, its the sellers with low profile rating that you have to watch for.

No matter what, you can veg with lights like you have.
