Accidental Garden - newguy

Hi Folks,

This my first accidental garden, meaning I wasn't really planning it but it took off....

It started August 8, 2009 I went to the local dispensary and spotted clones for sale and bought one. I had an old "Phototron 3000 SX" which I purchased in the 70's sitting in my garage. There wasn't much I needed to get it going after someone told me about Deep Water Culture method.

What I used:

The Phototron came with 3 X 40 watt flouresent lights, I added a 25 w CFL and 42 w CFL.

2 1/2 half quart Cole slaw container
small pot (already had holes in it)
Air pump with stone
Some grow juice
Rocks from mining in the desert
Fan to circulate
Timer

Day 1 : Plopped the clones in the pot and left lights on 24/7

First week : I am amazed with the growth.. Hmmm.. This may work

Second Week : Got a second plant, didn't take off like the other one. I gave it some more time and it is coming around.

Third week : Really growing well, I will let it go another week and then go 12/12

The Plant is doing well, I changed the water & nutrients, also added another light and changed the containers I was using to make more room for the roots.

I will take some more pics soon

interesting grow my friend! when are you going to change lighting? and by lighting i mean did you change the temp of the bulbs

I like the ingenuiity of this one Golddog :-) I'm keen to see what you can do with it, DWC can produce excellent growth rates and that will compensate somewhat for the lighting. You say you purchased that back in the Seventies? ....... are we of the same generation? :-) ..... I just turned the big 50! Still, never too old for growing weed :-)

I'll subscribe to this one. Very best of luck, great experiment.

Sorry haven't been watching the post. I added lighting, and it is now about 2 weeks in 12/12, looking OK.

My son borrowed the camera, I'll get it back and get some pictures up. I Super cropped 3 stems and it seems to still be working, the enclosure is almost completely filled.

And by the way - I'm fifty five :leaf::leaf:

Hi Folks,

I shot some pictures with my cellphone, my son is still using the good camera, In the first picture you can see the little buds, but the resolution is poor.

Regarding the lighting, I think I will pretty much leave it alone THIS TIME, as I want to get a baseline of performance.

i.e. Let's see what this little machine will do !

I would like input on what people think about lighting, nutes, etc. :peace:

BTW - This is a Trainwreck clone

Things are starting to Bud ! I took these pictures with my cell phone.

You can see the Buds forming, it is also doing the stretch so I have been bending over as some have reached the top of the Phototron SX 3000.

So far very pleased with the progress, Let me know what you think !

If things keep on going like this I will be amazed.

Do you cover the grow room at night?
It's looking very nice and I like the box.

*Also I'd recommend placing your journal link in you signature so others can easily find your journal.

Hi BlackRoses, The unit is in a corner of my garage, so it is not covered as the garage is dark. There are no open windows, etc to let light in. bongsmilie

wow man i jus read ur journal up to this point and im really looking forward for more updates.. i will b keeping an eye on ur grow bro.. its looking awsome especially that light box thing u have man... that thing is so perfect ur babies are surrounded by light from all the right spots.. what kinda nutes are u using?

Encina High class of 72 go Apaches. Its nice to be 55.

Looking real nice man, I love seeing people grow out some healthy plants with jsut a few bucks and ingenuity. Seems like the best way to do a first time grow. Speaking of a few bucks and ingenuity, Lowes has a 70wHPS security light for $34 bucks.
