DIY Aero CFL 12/12 from seed

12/12 from seed project in my two-tub aero design.

Using ~270W of CFLs putting out 17,500 lumens

No clue on what strains though.

I got the female from a buddy who had her under 1 26w cfl in a solo cup, I am expecting the one that has been in the aero since it was a tiny seedling to get a little bit bigger before starting to flower.

Here is what my aero setup looks like, its pretty simple.

10 Gallon tub inside an 18 Gallon tub, water gets sprayed into top tub via pump/mister then goes down into res through drainage holes.

Cost me about $60 all together, got everything but the net pots from local stores.. (target for tubs petsmart for water pump home depot for mister head and screw on tubing)

If you were to buy the pump online from HTG with say.... the net pots you could save like $20.

Timer is 15min on 30min off all day.

nice set-up! Good pix of the tubs. That first pic with all the hairs on it looks pretty amazing..

Good SHit

I'll be patiently watching...

This'll be cool. Wonder how big she'll get? And I think I said this already once before, but that aero tub is LEGIT!

12/12 from seed is the best way to grow big sativa plants, it keeps them manageable, some companies even say to top your plant at the beginning of flowering to keep it manageable indoors.

Do they say how far into flowering to do this, even if only an approximate guesstimate? Mine are very sativa dominant, and I don't want to find that 5.5' (or 6.5' tops, but that's only if I do some real rigging and rearranging, meaning I'd need someone else to do it!) isn't enough after all and be forced to harvest too early! Just switched to 12/12 last night, so I'm quite at the beginning of flowering. Also, using the Stealth BP, so I've got plenty of room for roots and plants; it's only light reflector height allowance that needs to concern me. :)

Lurk, lovin' your setup! This looks almost identical to what I've been picturing in my brain for putting together a misting cloner as well as for growing plants (once I'm ready for the latter LOL), but never thought of the garden aerator thingie! It's hard to tell from photos though, and doesn't help that I'm not well-hearsed in hardware  .... is the aerator from a garden hose nozzle or from a sprinkler head? (I'm guessing sprinkler head, but I could be wrong about both. LOL)

What kind of time frame till harvest can one expect with 12/12 from seed, and what kind of yield? (I know that's a ball park figure question at best, as it depends on strains and a myriad of environmental factors.)

And my last question: For those of us who can put something together if there are step-by-step instructions, would you be so kind as to post a brief "manual" of sorts RE: specific parts, assembly, and how far to place the plants above the mister, how much water to be kept in there.... etc., etc.? Nothing intricate or hours of work, just a basic step-by-step how-to. You'd have many appreciative people here! ;)

Yea, it all depends on your setup and the strain.

If your plant is really getting too big you can always tie the top down, not a big issue.

Its more for manageability than anything, you want to top your plant plant BEFORE the big flowering stretch. If you are going to use a veg cycle its only to get a nice root structure and main stem for the colas to form. So it stretches the new growth (which will be the secondary nodes) instead of the main node exploding even more.

12/12 from seed is essentially making your plant an autoflowering strain with a shorter day period.

I might add, 12/12 from seed can increase your chance for females because of the reduced hours of light.

It will start flowering on its own whenever it is ready to, it wont start making buds a day sooner or later, it will make them as soon as it physically can.

Topping your plant right when you put it into 12/12 seems like it would be a better option, but that requires you to veg the plant big enough to top it in the first place, and that will take longer than just keeping 12/12 on from the start.

I was planning on a big guide next full grow when I get moved into my new place, once I get all of the kinks worked out (right now its pretty rock solid though)

I have gone through 4-5 different versions of this tub, I have tried lots of configurations but this one seems to work out the best, and only because of the specific water pump I am using.

The top of the water pump has a threaded male end.
I screwed a 10" riser with a sprinkler head onto the pump.
Then the sprinkler head pokes right through the hole in the top tub and sprays your plants.

Cool, will do.

Hey Kat heres a diagram of an aero-tub setup off of lurk's last journal...

And also theres some good aero designs and discussion here. These are just the two that came to mind, but I'm sure there are tons on RIU and other sites.

Thats one of the many revisions. I have discovered that it works best with one head in the middle, and its easier to work with that way. (see picture in first post)

Here is a little update on the honey in flowering...

Here is a bagseed that has been in my aero on 12/12 from seed...

DAY 21

The current plant that is flowering was started in soil and given to me at about 4 weeks old after it showed sex. (12/12 from seed with no nutrients) Its really weird seeing buds with 1 point leaves shooting out.
