Grow: The next generation. Early Misty and Master Kush!

So I found my last journal so helpful in chronically my previous grow which we are currently enjoying smoking, that I decided to chronical my current grow as well. One mistake I made my last grow is not having a well thought-out plan. This grow, I hope I have remedied that.

I started with MK and EM seeds from Nirvana. My plan is as follows: Veg 2 plants of each strain in soil, with the hope that I luck out and get a female of each - I figure I have a 50-50 shot of a fem from each strain. I plan on again doing a combo outside/inside grow. Veg with 10 hours natural sunlight and complete with 8 hours artificial. I have a 400w MH on the way but currently I am using natural sunlight and CFLs during the seedling stage.

At the earliest possible time, I plan on topping them and using the cutting as a clone to deternine sex. I plan on vegging for about 6 weeks. Once I identify the females, the males will be destroyed and I will keep only 1 female of each to serve as moms. Any other females will be put into flowering. My plan is to take 2 clones from each mom at a time and transplant into a hempy bucket and flower those. My intention is to have 2 moms, 2 clones in early flowering and 2 clones near harvest, with the goal of harvesting 2 plants every 2 months. Again, this is all for personal use.

I read about these crazy yields of 1lb per plant and I am awestruck. I have no illusions of harvesting that much from a single plant but if I can yield about 4-6 oz per plant, I will be extremely satisfied. 8-12 oz from the 2 plants would be enough to last us about 4-6 months (assuming we use 1/2 oz a week). Any excess will be stored. I will take a break from growing for about 3 months once I have met my target of 6 months usage stockpiled.

So...all that being said, I put into germination 2 seeds each of MK and EM back on June 25th, using the damn paper towel and cup method. The 2 MKs, MK1 and MK2, and 1 EM (EM1, naturally) showed taproots within 48 hours. The other EM, appeared to be a dud and never germed. I replaced that seed 3 days later with another EM, EM2, and that germed fine. Once taproots were more than about a centimeter (about 1/2"), I transplanted to peat moss disks, watered and placed in a covered tupperware container. After about a day and a 1/2, all broke the surface. These seedlings were then placed in my window sill for some natural light for about 2 days or so, until the looked strong enough. The first 3 seedlings, MK1, MK2 and EM1, were transplanted on July 1st into 6" pots using a mixture of MG organic, perlite and vermiculite, in a 5-1-1 ratio respectively. These then started going outside at 7am until about 7 pm and then under CFLs until 1am. I messed up with EM2 (the replacement for the dud) by placing the seedling still in peat moss under the CFL. I did this back on Sunday (July 1st) and on Monday, I found that it was laying on its side. I think the heat was too much and dried it out. I watered the peat moss and placed the seedling back on the window sill. Meanwhile, I placed another EM seed to germ, just in case. Well, today is Thursday and the 3 transplaneted seedlings are doing great - they are about 4" and appear healthy. On my last grow, it took me over 2 weeks just to get to this point. The EM2 is recovering nicely but is a little bent. The other seed I germed, EM3, is showing a taproot of about 1 centimeter. I plan on transplanting EM2 to the soil mixture and EM3 to peat moss this evening. I have been watering all the seedlings with plain unchlorinated tap water every other day or as warranted (peat moss dried out very quick and need watering every day). I have attached a few pics of germinated seeds, showing tap roots and a couple of MK1, MK2 and EM1.

I will try and update at least once a week going foward.

Update time. Not a whole lot to report as of yet. The plants are doing great. MK1, MK2 and EM1 are all between 4"-6" and are looking nice and bushy (for this early point). I had an issue with MK2 earlier this week when I found it leaning badly - I think it's a little stretched and the weight of the leaves weighed it down. I added some soil to all 3 plants to shore up the stems and they seem to be ok now. EM2, the late seedling, is also developing nicely. It's much more undersized than the others, at only about 2" but it's coming along. I've only given them water every other day so far - no nutes this early. I am continuing with 18-6 schedule with the a.m. natural sunlight and p.m. light indoors under the CFLs. I have a 400W MH on the way and once they get a little bigger, I will use that to complete the vegging. Once I have the mothers identified and a good height, I'll either get an HPS systed or a HPS conversion bulb and keep the moms under the CFLs.

Here are some updated pics.

I just checked my journal for my prior grow (see 2nd link below) and the plants I'm growing now, which only sprouted 10 days ago, are already the height of my prior grow when they were 24 days old! It just shows you what good genetics and a good knowledge of what you are doing (unlike when I first started out last time) can have on a plant's growth rate. These girls already have 3 sets of leaves. My ultimate goal is to get a MK mom and a EM mom and then use the hempy bucket method to flower clones. This round, I want to end up with somewhere around 12 oz cured. I'm planning on at least 1 clone each at a time flowering.

Looking good dude.

I am on my second grow as well.
The cloning went much better than expected.
I am just using the plain method using water only.
Seems to me the bigger the clone the easier it is to deal with and take care of.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks, Cid and Mid. Cid, perhaps you should create a journal yourself. I'd like to compare as we go.

Mid, how far along are you on your current grow and what are you growing?

When I took the girls out this morning, I was really impressed by how much they grew overnight. Already, the 3 bigger plants have 4 sets of leaves. As you know, you want at least 6 sets of alternating leaves before flowering. I'm approaching 2 weeks of vegging and I plan on vegging a minimum of 2 more weeks before topping and using the cutting as a clone to determine sex. This is all dependent on how fast and tall the plants grow, of course. I am really eager to get my clones going in the hempy bucket.

Thanks, lumber. I appreciate the support. Let me tell you, it's sooooo frustrating not being able to talk to your real-life buddies about your grow. So many times I've wanted to show them or talk about how the weed they are smoking was as a result of my very own hands. I can't even boast about it....hehehe....So rollitup serves that purpose for me.

BTW, I forgot to mention, even at this very early stage, the 4 plants are beginning to have "that" smell. It's faint but it's there....

Nice looking set-up there, Cid. I posted a comment there.

Another update: I GOT MY 400W MH LIGHT!!! The wife just called me. The idiot didn't even stealth package it. Says right there on the mfg's box what it is - Hydroponic Grow Light system. Great, now the Fedex delivery guy knows what I'm doing. Fucktard.

I have been growing other things besides ganja for about 2 yrs. I am just now starting to grow ganja. I have bought lots of Hydro lights before. I dont think you should worry about it. You can grow anything hydro not just weed. So dont worry about it.

Endoe, yeah I know this but I live in very sunny South Florida. Trust me, 99% of gardeners using indoor lights aren't growing tomatoes, know what I'm saying?

you just want your own orchid collection, thats it...

actually, i'm thinking of growing some of those pretty flowers once i got some spare equipment to throw at them... they're delicate though, hence them being done hydro!

Update time. I've finally built my grow-box. I still have a bit of work to do on the ventilation but it suits my needs perfectly. I'm using a computer fan that pulls about 60 CFMs to vent but I think I need to get into the 80s or 90s. I have attached 25' of ducting with the intent of venting into the attic. I haven't yet cut the hole in the ceiling. Also, I'm considering running some ducting from a AC vent directly into the grow-box. The temp in the grow-area was averaging 100F and that was with 2 fans blowing into the area. Yes, I have work to do on cooling.

That being said, the plants look good. MK1, MK2 and EM1 range from 6"-8". EM2, the late comer, is about 4" but developing nicely. I noticed a little yellowing on the lowest leaves on MK1 over the weekend and even though this is normal as a plant matures, I felt it a little too early for this to be happening. So, this watering I added a little Foxfarm Grow Big - 1/4 tsp per gallon. Depending on how they accept this, I may start incorporating these nutes from now on. They are outside currently, enjoying some of mother nature's very own natural sunlight. The 3 bigger plants already have 5 sets of leaves. Once they reach between 12"-18", I plan on taking a couple clones and sexing them. That still at least 2 or 3 weeks away. I'll try on posting another update later this week or unless something warrants an earlier update.

Thank, JP. I appreciate it.

Not a whole lot new to report. I watered the plants yesterday again with a mixture of 1 gallon unchlorinated tap water, 1/4 tsp FF Grow Big and 1/8 tsp of Superthrive. This was their 2nd watering with very light nutes. I'm using about 1/2 gallon water between all 4 plants - so each plant is taking about 1/8 gallon each watering (every other day). They appear to be doing fine. I've managed to get the temps down in the box to around 97F. I have my eye on an exhaust fan that pulls about 250 CFMs that should help remedy the problem. My plan is to transplant to bigger pots this weekend. I'll post another update on Monday.

Hey hearmenow.
I have finished the 3 from my first grow.
I pulled the 4th for a clone mom.

I am growing out the mom now and 10 clones.
I have pulled one of the clones for a new mom.
I hope to order some seeds here before I start my third grow.
I will probably go with White Russian (ak-47x WW)

I figure I can keep atleast 10 clones rolling into flower every 8-10 weeks.

I plan on keeping this midgrade line going for a while.
I would like to keep it as a regular stock. (always on hand)
I hope to start getting about 8-10 oz's every 2 mo's.
I want to fill a freezer with it.

Good to hear you got some more equipment.
It is going to be atleast 2 more grows before I can afford the lights and setup that I want.

Good luck with your grow.

Thanks, mids. Sounds like you have a nice little ops going there. There's no way I could manage that many plants without getting busted. I'm also looking for a 2nd HID light, this time an HPS. I initially had planned to veg with the MH and get a conversion HPS bulb. But the cheapest conversion bulb is $50 (most are $80-$100) and for a little bit more, I could pick up a used HPS sytem. The system I am using now ran me under $100. Good luck with your smoke!

Good luck to you to Hearmenow.

Yeah, I wish we could get some sort of Rollitup swap meet action going on here.
I think everyone is to scared to sell to keep anonymity.
