HTB's lowryder 2 grow!

Hi there everybody thanks for looking at my journal. i wont be able to really start posting pics/ info for at least 3 days because i still do not have my 150W HPS and i want them to be under the HPS atleast after the first 2 weeks.(i still need to order it after i get my paycheck in 5 days.)

-the seeds- Attitude seedbank, 5 fem lowryder 2. These seeds came with 5 g13 labs power skunk and 1 fem WW.

-the room- My grow room is a sliding door closet 6 feet tall X 4ft wide X 2 feet deep/ I do have a table in the room cutting the height down to about 4 feet, but it can be removed if needed. it is lined with mylar emergency blankets, one side is just the closet sliding doors turned around so that the mirror is facing in to the closet:-) for maximum reflectivity.

-ventilation- i will use an 88cfm (or 2x 47 cfm) cpu fan for an exhaust and i will simply cut some holes in the bottom of my room for intake. there is also a large fan in the room circulating the air and keeping the lights cool.

-the lights- I plan on using about 125W of CFL for the first week or so(really only until i get my 150W HPS) and then i will use the HPS and most of my cfl's for the rest of the grow set to 20/4 the whole time.

-the soil- I made my own mixture of soil... I used 3 parts organic potting soil, 1 part miracle grow perlite, 1 part worm castings, 1 cup of fish emulsion(5-1-1), and half a cup of bone meal(3-15-0). both the soil and the perlite had trace elements in them. I plan on planting my seedlings in unamended soil after i sprout them in peat pellets. until they get big enough to handle all the fert. than i will put them in their final 1.5 gallon pot with the soil i described above. do you think i have included enough fert in the soil mix to last all 8 weeks? or will i have to make a tea? and should i be using kelp meal for the first 2 weeks?

-the plan- i plan on growing the lowryder2 for a month without any company then after a month add 2 of the skunk and the whitewidow to veg with the lowryder under 20/4 for the remaining 4 weeks. i will harvest the lowryders after 8 weeks and switch my lights down to 12-12. the remaining plants will now flower while i enjoy my LR2 harvest. than i plan on doing it again with my 2 remaining LR2 and 3 remaining Powerskunk. this way i should have a pretty continuos supply of bud. and wont have to spend my hard earned cash on My medicine anymore.

well anyhow, thanks for looking i promise i will have more info soon including pics. although i will not germinate my seeds for another 2-3 days.

OK, so i started germinating 3 of my Lowryder 2 seeds today, with the good old paper towel trick. I simply moistened the paper towel and folded it up with 3 seeds spaced about 2 inches apart. I then placed the folded paper towel and put it in to a plastic bag which i breathed in to for extra co2 and moisture.. I placed the slightly inflated bag on my cable box with paper over it keeping it dark. i will check on it every 6 hours or so to make sure it stays moist.

still germinating... im just waiting for my seeds to crack. so i thought id put up a couple pics of them... When i finally see a taproot, i am going to put them in peat pellets (like these) and place them in my seedling box... which is just a cardboard box with mylar emergency blanket lining the inside, and 2 23W cfl's over head. they will stay here until they are about 2-3 inches tall. hopefully ill have my HPS by then.

what is the best way to use these peat pellets? keep them in some kind of dish with a half inch of water in it? or just on a plate or something just kept moist with a mister? will 2 of these cfl's be enough for the first week or two of their life?

only 2 of the three LR2's germinated so far. so i planted them in to some peat pellets and put them under 2 23W cfls. in a small box. once they get about 3 -5 inches ill transplant them in to their final pots. heres some pictures of the pellets.

So today i discovered mold all over the 1 remaining seed. it was very small to begin with so i guess im not surprised. i guess ill start to germinate the other two LR2 seeds. there are two currently in peat pots that still have not sprouted... it has been almost two days since i put them in there. i hope to see something tomorrow.... maybe the day after. i finally ordered the 150W HPS light from HTG supply. it should be here within a week. ill post new pics soon.

Finally got a sprout today, after like 5 days in a peat pot. I hope the other one will follow. so i guess that makes this day one of my grow. here are some pictures of the two peat pots... one with a sprout. one without? should i put the one with no sprout in to the dark and wait for it to sprout? or is it ok to leave it in the light with the other. it is only under one 26W cfl, should i make it two?

so its been three days since my last post,a couple new things...

1- My 150W HPS from HTG supply, which i am very happy with so far...
2- i have two other Lr2's now that have been germinated and planted...

these seeds were put directly into some basic organic soil in peat pots, they have been covered with plastic to create the green house effect. before i dropped the seeds in i soaked the soil completely and let it drip for a few minutes, once it stopped dripping i dropped the seed in about 1/4 inch underneath some loose soil. they have been sitting in the dark for 2 days, but i decided to move them under the light this morning, i also put the plastic on this morning.was this a bad idea???

I have the 150W HPS about 2 feet above the one seedling with two 6500K cfls much closer... i kind of have the cfl's blocking the hps because i want her to have more of the 6500K spectrum Right now but they will be moved once the plant gets bigger. ive got a big fan on the right hand side blowing air over everything. rright now i have the lights on 24/0 .

sorry if i am being a little long winded... just check out the pics if u dont wanna read it. i just want this to be pretty detailed. and umm for SOME REASON my brain isnt working too well right now... wonder why.bongsmiliebongsmilie

well first off... thank you covertgrow, i appreciate the input.

so this morning i noticed that both of my seeds sprouted (as well as the other that sprouted 5 days ago) I lost 2 seeds between germination, and sprouting. the seedlings are both barely through the soil. i have turned off my HPS and am only using, 4 26W cfls, 2 each of 6500K, and 2700K. I will turn the HPS back on in about a week.(remember this is autoflowering LR2, so there is not really a vegitative stage). so the lower Kelvin light spectrum should work well.

questions...
are these 4 26W CFL lights enough to sustain these three seedlings for 1-2 weeks? or should i use my HPS as well... it is only 150Watts

what should i feed them to increase young growth, and root development??? (im trying to be 100%organic)

This morning i found both of my seedlings, the two younger ones that is, fallen over... They are not dead. But they are not growing fast at all and they were leanin over in to the dirt I propped them up with some pieces of zip tie, and i placed the so that they were leaning away from the light to try and get them to bend back up, so far it has been unsuccesful but they look a little bit better, my other plant that is about a week old is doing well. ill post pics next time, too Hugh now.

I had the same problem with some BB autos I'm growing, I cut a slit in a thin drinking straw and put that arount the bottom of the stem, that seems to of worked.

Nice set up. Sorry to hear about the falling over of the plants. Maybe the lighting isn't enough. I wouldn't worry about bringing the hps just yet. Just another cfl or 2 will do. And if the ones you have in there are full spectrum high Kelvin bulbs, maybe just make the next one you put in a low spectrum bulb.

I'm doing a lr2 grow as well, only in a hydro dwc-bubbler system and have run into similar struggles. The one that I have going right now hasn't really grown as fast as I anticipated either (3 weeks old now). Sadly, this is the only one that I was able to get to sprout out of the 4 that I have gotten to germinate so far. And it sucks! With you getting the fem-5 pack, you can't afford to have too many germinated seeds not sprout up so I feel your pain bro. Given the price of these seeds, I'm ordered the 10-pack unfem seeds so that I can hopefully breed and got alot more seeds. Heard people get somewhere in the neighborhood of around 300 seeds from pollinating just one female.

In any event, best of luck with your grow. Looks great so far and between the 2 of us, it sounds like this strain may have some difficulties in the early going and hopefully gets alot easier as the grow goes on. I'm subscribed.

thanks butters... any YEAH your right about me not being able to afford losing any more. those bitches were expensive. THE WORST part is that it has gotten worse. well they did for a while atleast... i think they are starting to perk up a little now. i did a couple things to them...
- the first thing i did was support them witha twist tie (like off of a bag of bread) just made a hook out of it and bent the non hook end over the outside of the pot.
-another thing i started doing was watering more, i think they liked that.
-i added a small amount of fish emulsion to the water. so they get some N, and some trace elemsnts.
-I also dug some soil out from around the stem, and replaced it with some peet moss from a peet pellet. hopefully the roots will think this is better that the shitty soil i have.
heres some pics the first ones are from before this post..... i will post again with the after pictures of what they look like now.

here are the pictures from after i added the peet, and now some Vitamin B-1. they havent changed in like 3 days. i hope they are just healing themselves, from a little heat damage and will soon resume growing. they are not dead...

So its been a while due to some major difficulties resulting in the loss of ALL but one of my LR2's. But whatever. now im just gonna focus on this one remaining LR2. hopefully i can get on OZ. anyway i think it is doing pretty good... I have her under my 150W HPS, and 3 26W CFL's... she has already shown sex. I leave the cfl's on all night and run the Hps all day long with them. The hps puts out 16000 lumens so shes getting a lot of light so as you can expect she is staying short but starting to get very bushy and man is she growing fast now that i put her in GOOD soil. here are some pictures.

in one of these pictures the temp looks like 93... it is actually 83...you can kind of see the other line.

wow, you got sex already. Lucky. I am doing four lr2 in three gallon all organic soil.

I am at around day 40 and barely sexed. Not only that they have refused to bud. In fact one still has no sex. I have put them into a 24 hour dark, well one of them.

I attribute this to too much N and feeding at all while they were in veg in fact. I might have to flush. Mine are huge.

So i can ask you go easy on the feeding and you know if you moce to a bigger pot you night get a bigger yeild.
