my first hempy's were started in coca coir and now it is in a mcdonalds cup 1/2 vermiculite/mg perlite, and my seedlings are growing quite fast, i have them off to a corner so they are not directly under the 430w hps, i think they like the nutes in the mg perlite but when i transplant i have regular perlite to use, i'll also use %100 regular perlite next time and see the difference in growth, just ordered 3xAfghan Kush fems, 15seed autoflowering mix and Arjan's Haze #2 im gonna try growing them all hempy :)
also i went and got some Earth Juice Microblast, has all the necessary trace nutrients, i figured perlite does not have all of these like soil. Any suggestions?

I will throw my 2 scents in I have been succesful with hempys and cfls, I water every 2 days I can stretch it too 3 if I want or need too, my hole is 1.5 inches from the bottom of the cup, I am using 32oz cups from start to fininsh, since I am settig up a perpetual and my clones are getting no veg time just a week to root, I only use a bllom nute formula with a touch of N in it...KISS, I always use r/o water, and i keep my ph at 6.0...

I have cloned succesully, I dont do anything special no magic potions or gels, I take a cutting, I put it in a rocwool cube when it starts to yellow, or show signs of new growth (usually 3-7 days) I put it in a hempy bucket and flower... again KISS, I have only cloned 10 times so far but all have been successful, I even took 2 lower branches from a plant I harvested, I followed the same routine and it worked without a problem, IMHO people make cloning and growing in general appear to be more complicated than is..I also had a succesful clone just from taking a cutting and putting the stem in a coffee cup with ph water that I changed everyday 5 days later little roots again no potions or powders just the stem and some water....
How do you check your PH? What apparatus or chemicals or thing do you use to determine what the PH of the bucket is? I have an oxidation soil probe and a chemical tablet kit for soil, will either of these work?

It's 'reverse osmosis'; if you look on the labels of the 'pour your own' stuff in supermarkets it is probably r/o. (see AZ, I DO listen lol) My problem with this is that I don't have a car currently so it makes obtaining and transporting more than 1 or 2 gallons at a time very difficult for me... imagine, I build my whole grow room (all materials) from the ground up with my bike and the city bus... I can tell you it requires some dedication to do that.

I am going to try cloning tomorrow, I really need to get my steps lined up; most people around here don't seem to understand that what we are doing is science and you need a designated process and a level of attention to detail greater than the average joe - especially if you ever want to know for a fact what went wrong with something. My first grow was proof that I didn't understand this, but once I started treating my grow room more like I treat computers I really came a long way.

I guess I am going to try 2 clones each plant into hempy solo cups and prep the buckets for the clones. Gatta make a trip to the grocery first though. I am going to mix nutrients tomorrow and once I have the proper grow medium I think I know my cloning process decently -

My real issue is the growing medium, I don't want to just start cutting limbs from stuff without knowing what to put them in! Should I use like a half strength or quarter strength nutrient solution for the clones? How deep into the solo cups should the stems go? How much light should they get? - I have 15w grow tubes made for this but I don't know if cannabis responds well to them during clone rooting.

Any help is greatly appreciated as always... thank you RIU
thankz homie!

I use a basic aqaurium ph tester... I use the same to test the water runoff from my buckets... I dont bother with it anymore I ALWAYS use R/O water so I know exactly what I am working with.....

I had a thought...

I am going from dirt moms to hempy buckets and I only need 1 permanent mom, so if more than one of the 4 plants that I have are female, I can flower a dirt plant right alongside it's hempy bucket genetic duplicate... and we can see exactly how effective hb's are over MG.

My current grow is an all hempy grow. I also use a mix with the coco. I don't know the total particulars of your nutrient/additive setup, but since I have experience with what you're using. I give you my $.02. Definite flush every 7-10 days, and if you have some sort of beneficial bateria solution/additive use it. I had all that stuff from my short stint with the DWC, never again with the DWC. Never!
If you started out in plug coco coir plug, you can do what I did and tear a plug into thirds vertically, mix the perc. and verm. in your new pot/cup, and then shove the coco down vertically in the center so that the bottom piece touches the pot bottom, mixes the perc. and verm., then continue until your able to rest the coco ontop and fill in with perc. verm. perc. on top. The reason I did it this way was to create a wick, and you can lightly depress/squeeze the coco, like a pump to bring up res water and air. It also helps to refresh the coco.

This has been working for me thus far. Don't use H202 if you're using beneficial bacteria.
I also use the green bag perc.. It works like percs. Heh. Heh. Heh.

Good luck:twisted:

Hempy Buckets are just way too easy. Reliable. Cost effective. And efficient a method to not be using. The space you save from not having to position reservoirs, pumps, tubing, trays, can be used to grow more plants, harvest more bud, and in the end, make more $ (come on, everyone thinks about the $). Any other consumer affordable method just doesn't stack up. Pro aero maybe, but even then, you need the $, and space to set it up. Would you rather reserve a 2'x2'x3' area for your reservoirs, or would you rather stick a light in there and grow some more bud? Save a pump for your water jug that you keep in your kitchen.
I use large chinese food soup containers, with magazine covers taped onto them for light blockage, cut a circle out of the cap and leave it on for extra support. All you need is to poke it with a screwdriver size hole, I used my soldering iron. You can easily repot these right ontop of another one. And just fill it as needed. You can even peel back the bottom and sides to view root growth.
If you have a question about Nutes. I can tell you that once you start to use this method, you'll begin to be more "in touch" with your plants needs. Especially since your always lifting and minding them. Your plant will tell you when it's hungry. You'll notice from its rate of maturation and usual demeanor. Especially if you're used to the nutes that you're currently using. I currently use one of the most "glamiest", "boyband", "poppy", brands on the market for my nutes and additives. This brand has been working great at the 2/1 grow/bloom nute ratio. And all of this brands other additives have been doing what they said they'd do so.

Hi Sprout. Whut size containers are you using if you dont mind a person being nosey:) I have mine in gallon buckets but my growspace aint too big and would be nice to have some smaller containers so to be able to cram a bunch mo i there. Seems like I read on here the other day that some fella was using 32 oz cups from start to finish. Reckon that be a good plan?
Thanks.

Ps..you sure have some nice large breastes. If you are giving them puppies away I will take the one on the right with the cute pink nose on it:)

I should change my avatar. I'm actually a dude. I just love Hitomi Tanaka. This is just subtle promotion for her "niche". Whatever.
I'm using the large sized take out soup containers. I believe they're one or two quart sized. The only reason is that I was to lazy to go looking for suitable containers. And I only had $2 in my pocket. Your local take out joints sell em new for 20 to 25 cents each. Depending the deal you cut. 25 cents each max. I'll be ditching about 60%-70% of the amount of coco that I'm using from now on. I'll just use a pencil shaped amount maybe for cuttings/germination and a thin wick. I noticed that for these containers, you need to repot after 2-3 weeks, normal I guess.

i am using half gal not fully filled in a highdensity sog...works fine...peace az
Are those in cups, then grow bags, then the bins/totes/buckets? That's exactly what I am planning on DWC totes and grow bags for my main grow.

One of the reasons I like the soup containers is that I can easily lst each plant to its own container. This helps to maximize my grow space and light planning. Blah blah blah.
One thing is constant. No matter how well the hempys are doing. I still want em' to grow faster. Never satisfied.

Hey thanks bigd921, the aquarium tester works great 'cause it's intended for just that same range as canna... nice when things fall into line like that.

Hey Az, A while back you posted the following feeding sched:
water water light feed water water full strength etc etc

Since you water every two or three days once the tap root sets in does this mean that there is a two or three day period between each of these steps e.g. water (2-3 days) water (2-3 days) light feed?
Also do you repeat this sched over and over (w w lf w w ff w w lf etc) or is the light feed just to get the plants used to nutes for the first time (w w lf w w ff ww ff etc)?

yes you have it right water water feed light water water feed...the nute requriment is strain dependent some strains will feed higher then others this is why i say start lite an work up....peace az

I have a few feminized Dutch Passion seedlings in hempy buckets.

I'd say they are happy to be there.
