ok so i was thinking even tho i have a hps,i am wondering could i hang say a 27watt 5000k cfl between my plants say 3-6 inches from the leaves at all times to help get a fuller spectrum for the plants?
or would that burn the leaves being that close?
and is it a good idea letting a cfl hang down just by it's cord?,hate to have one drop:evil:

any input would help since i would like to do this to help get better spectrum for plants, and also to get more light to the bottom area of my plants

adding that additional (supplemental) lighting would be great. I think you can hang cfls by the cord, I don't know if it is a fire hazard but that is how I see it in ALL the pics. Your plants should fill in more. CFLs only burn when the plant touches the bulb so don;t let it. Train it if you have to. Good luck

any1 wanna help and give some input?
Sure... I have all my lights hanging. I know my setup is not the most pleasant on the eyes but my girls have turned out alright. I have had the light drop on the plant a few times and it did receive some minor burns. I have a grow journal the link is in my signature if you want to check it out.

Yeah, you can let them hang. That would be a good idea to gahve the cfl's in there to help out with some of the lighting, but I can tell you from current and personal experience. MAKE SURE THE LIGHTS ARE SECURE!!! NO MATTER WHAT YOUR CFL'S ARE TIE TOO. I've had them hung from my ceiling with ceiling hooks and had them fall on my plant the night before going into flower. I've also had them clamped to the side of the pot, and become unclampped some how and fall and break (this happened 3 days go). Only thing I say is too get somethingj that is durable and won't jepordize your babies.

what i do is use small ceiling hooks then i take my cord and tie it into a knot. You dont need to tie it super tight just enough so it wont come undone and this way your lights will never come down, and then just reposition the knot when you need to.I had my lights comedown before and used that for temporary fix then it became permanent.:blsmoke:

yes they will be fine as long as they have a breeze blowing on them. Im using CFL's right now and they are all within 3 inches of the sides and top with a constant breeze blowing on them, and they are filling out nicely.:blsmoke:

Clamp lights are handy but they also take up alot of space. If you buy a base for 3 bucks and then add a cord for another 3-4 bucks then its the same price and your going to get about 5-6 inches of extra space ,and normally cfl grows are small so small sockets are more practical.:blsmoke:And like i said to begin with just go to home depot they have all the stuff you will need plus more.

you can take the reflector off so its just the socket and clamp or

I use the clamp lights for that reason too. They are very versitile. You can change the way you put them together as your needs change. When I hang them I use medium twine to hang them from hooks in the ceiling so that there is no strain on the cord and there is less chance they will fall on the plants. As the plants grow, you just shorten the twine. You can also use the twine to tie the cord out of the way.

Both are versatile it all depends on your setup:blsmoke:
