I think it's insufficient for more than 4 plants regardless of how you're growing. sog, scrog, perpetual ect ect. 400w is not a lot of light.

That doesn't even make any logical sense to me, but I clearly have no experience so would you please elaborate?

your 'G13 Labs Pineapple Express 400w Waterfarm' grow journal is pretty fuckin' sweet btw. it's cool that you're posting on my thread cause' that exact journal i'm speaking of is one i bookmarked during my riu lurking days, haha.

why are you worried about getting 30-40 lbs in one year? if your going to cash crop i wouldnt suggest doing it in stealth growing cabinents.

A 400w doesn't really put a great deal of lumen. It's a bulb I think should be reserved for smaller grows with a few plants. 600w and 1000k put off sooooo much more light, the comparison is unreal. For 30 plants to all get sufficient light to properly photosynthesize you're going to need more than 400w. I wouldn't put more than 10 plants under a 400w and that's really pushing it. The light penetration/spread isn't really that large. Other than your choice of lamp your plan sounds perfect. I'm glad my grow could be inspiring. I have another grow going if you want to check it out.

hmm, ok, well this advice actually works out quite well for my first run. i've got 10 reg seeds, and am hoping to have somewhere around a 60:40 female-male ratio; leaving me with 10 plants.

now, as you all can probably tell i love to think about the future, haha (its my incentive to succeed). let's say the next run involves a closet with the following:
-2x 600w
-upgraded vent. system to match my light upgrade (suggestions MORE than welcome) - remember i'm stealth~[9'x2'x7' closet]
-fully automated co2 (http://www.controlwizardproducts.com/proddetail.php?prod=CO352 -- http://www.greners.com/i/fans-ventilation-filters/equipment/co2-burners/minigen-co2-generator.html)
-perfectly sealed closet (suggestions for this welcome, but i betchu all i get that shit sealed perfectly regardless. watch or teach, haha.)

alright we got 1200 watts now we're talkin'. time to ask the same question again:

what do y'all think is an optimal amount of plants per 600w when growing SOG style??

i really love the concept of SOG. experience may stray me away from SOG but as of now that is the way i'm interested in growing.

edit: i'm kinda drunk so excuse this if necesssary, lol. would it even be feasible to consider 2x 1000watts in my small little closet space? if i'm buying more ballasts and bulbs and maybe even different reflectors/fans etc. then i want as much light as i can get obviously lol.

can my little closet handle 2k watts? i'm ready to listen to your opinions.

I never understand why someone trys to grow multi strains, each strains react to lighting, and nuets differently, so when something starts effecting strain A you try to counter it, then that effects B and then you attempt to fix B and now C doest like it and it seems like to me its a big headache.

having an array of strains to choose from is more favorable than having a ton of one strain you can get tired of, well it is for some people at least (including myself).

that would probably be optimal. i've only got the closet here to work with so i'm going to do my best with what i've got. when i get into a more perpetual style setup i'll probably have a different strain for each of the 3 stages. 3 strains to choose from per harvest sounds dank to me

also, i've got a question. my passive intake is 2 pvc elbows taped together in an "S" formation (to form a light break). i was under the impression that no light would be able to pass through this break. it seems though there is a glow inside my closet coming from the passive intake. my zipper also glows and i am wondering if this sort of light is acceptable or if i need to do something to fix it??

any suggestions or ideas are more than welcome.

so on 4/23/13 i germinated my first seed at 4:00 A.M. in a rapid root starter plug. it's a super auto freebie by short stuff seeds called super cali haze. i'm gonna use a 20/4 light schedule throughout the entire grow.



got my t5 on the 4 bulb setting with 2 bulbs being Bloom spectrum and 2 being Grow spectrum in this formation BGGB.

depicted is a hygrometer, rapid rooter, and cup of water for extra humidity. i also spray the dome with water from time to time. how long till y'all think she'll pop out of the rapid rooter?

also, all suggestions or tips welcome to help me improve my grow.

I'd sort that light leak out in your passive intake....some ducting came off on my last grow, so I had an unnoticed "glow" getting in...turned a lot of my crop hermie, and halved the amount of bud I harvested.

use black pipe it should not reflect the light like white pvc pipe will. or you can try making the inside of the pipe black with paint if your not worried about fumes or anything. you can add another elbow if is still a problem but it should fix it. or just add some ducting to do another turn or two on your passive.

the reason the white pipe is leakng is because it can keep reflecting the light down the tube hope that works for you

And please listen to some good advice dude...you do NOT need to spend alot of $$$ on fertilizers....keep it simple and as close to a 3-1-2 ratio as you can ....and be sure it provides all the needed and required nutrients micros and all....it will make it much easier as you learn the curve of reading your plants...good luck and KEEP 'EM GREEN
