Govenments would be better off spending money on seeds rather than roundup ready crops impo. Off the soap box though, MG soil or ffof or roots organic or coco or who cares? Grower talent grows big babies, not the lable on the side of the bag. :):):)

how do u get to that number?
"We aren't going to feed 6 billion people with organic fertilizer," said Nobel Prize-winning plant breeder Norman Borlaug at a 2002 conference. "If we tried to do it, we would level most of our forest and many of those lands would be productive only for a short period of time." Cambridge chemist John Emsley put it more bluntly: "The greatest catastrophe that the human race could face this century is not global warming but a global conversion to ‘organic farming'-an estimated 2 billion people would perish."

Isn't round-up for weeds in yards? Who in the hell would use this shit in fields of crops? I honestly don't think the use of it in your backyard is going to prevent you from groing "healthy crops" (grass). And if farmers are stupid enough to spray their whole field/crop with this junk...that's their own damn fault.
Agreed! I use it on my weeds and it works great. never comes anywhere near where m food or pot.

Watch the documentary Food Inc. I think it's available on youtube or amazon instant view. The company is pretty cutthroat and only cares about the bottom line. Not proud to use their stuff, but everyone does whether you know it or not.
ALL companies care only about the bottom line, else they would cease to exist. no exceptions.

ten times one is ten...............ten minus seven is three...............so without round up were all gonna die and then some.......but im really stoned and my 2nd grade math might be a little off i dunno........ ten times more people starving without roundup seems high........

Nice find, what there saying is these companies use products produced by monsanto. Still good to know what your eating. Unfortunately, they now don't have to tell us.
No, dumb ass, READ the article...there's a big FALSE at the top of the page meaning it's bullshit. Really, get your facts straight.

Sorry Chuckles but tree hugging organic gardeners can barely feed their own families more less the the ever expanding world population. What you osted is pure propaganda coming from a bunch of lazy fucking hippies. Ride the bandwagon to be 'cool' if you like.
Awesome response!!

They can not spray that shit on the corn - It will die. WHat they made is called round up ready seeds. They can hose the soil and in a few days plant and its all good / okay for the "seed"
You have not the slightest clue what you are talking about. Roundup (glyphosate) is NEVER applied to bare soil, it would have ZERO EFFECT. Roundup is uptaken by the leaves, the plant needs to be activly green and growing. You might be thinking about no-till planting where you go into a cropfield with weeds, spray the weeds dead with RUP, then drill your soybeans, corn seed, or whatever. You can plant your seed 5 seconds after spraying with RUP, you could even plant before spraying as long as you get your spraying done before any crop seed has sprouted.

There are many herbicides that ARE "soil active" and applied to the soil where they then get uptaken by roots. But not RUP, it doesn't work that way. Started using it in 1986 when it was super pricy like well over $100 gallon, like 150 Their patent or whatever expired, so other companies started producing it (glyphotate, same as RUP) and price dropped to less than $40/gallon overnight. Used many gallons of the stuff on many many acres.

imo theres too many people period. And we arent going to feed them all organically or inorganically. The more people you try and feed the more the population will grow, so what happens when you reach 12 billion? Theres a tipping point somewhere. The laws of natural selection, although may not be the nicest, do work well to keep things in check, and imo it is merely the laws of natural selection at work in the world

This is actually a really interesting read, going organis is certainly a good thing but it won't save the world, Indias soil is already fucked from chem nutes it is dry rock hard and has zero organic matter because the microbes and worms etc have all been killed off or driven away by the Chem nutes, now they have to use chemicals from monsanto and the seed from monsanto to grow. There is however a permaculture movment in India that is teaching how to grow organically and to revive the soil. I think it is already to late pandoras box is open and there is no turning back, Unless we all buy farms and go all organic, then we survive and the rest of the world perishes.

Bummer

Exactly right. Round Up is a contact killer not systemic.
