DWC Root Slime Cure aka How to Breed Beneficial Microbes

Don't put anything "sweet" directly into the res. It will most definitely feed any pathogens present. In reality, it's my understanding that roots don't take up sugars, but they do exude them. The best way to sweeten your bud is to maintain proper nutrition, and keep them healthy. The plant creates its own sugars.

Thank you B.B., so then the bud sweetner claims are a false? :( Thankfully, i hadnt bought anything yet. You mentioned good nutrition is key to getting sweet buds, anything i should add given my growing situation?

3rd week flowering
-slime is minimal after flushing constantly and treating with H2O2, n the temp is 78-80 (plants got accustomed to this temp n show signs of shock when i try to introduce frozen water bottles*).
-Gonna flush out the peroxide and add the tea as soon as i get the myco through mail.

Also, can i brew in the same grow area where my plants are at?

*tried letting them float n also tried anchoring them down to no avail.

Sorry for the slight hijack, Heis.

I'm not a biologist or anything, but this is one of a multitude of articles on the subject: http://organicgardening.com/blogs/dougsorganicsolutions/2011/12/13/sugar-as-a-soil-supplement/

Keep in mind, if you're going to grow a little weed, and save/make yourself a little money, there is a long line of folks out there wanting to get a piece of that cash. Bottled nutrient companies are the worst. Not only will they sell you what you need, but they'll sell you everything you're willing to buy.

I mix my own solutions from raw mineral salts, so I don't know much about the commercial products, but for the most part, the additives they push are all B.S.

Make sure your nutes are synthetic. Organics don't work well in DWC. If you choose a quality product, the bloom formula will have everything your plants need to produce sweet buds. Proper pH management is also important in this regard.

Your temps do seem high to me. A gradual reduction should be a benefit.

Yes, you can brew the tea in your grow space, but you might want to shield it from strong light.

Maybe its been covered (still working on p.4) but what should the ph of the water be for the brew. My distilled water is at 7.0, is that ok or should i lower it?

I use distiller water too but I don't think ph maters for brewing ur tea. Ph is more for when u add it to ur res. this tea works great! Good luck

Thanks, im having to start with the ewc on itself (still waiting on the mycogrow) since im starting to see signs of slime again :-/

My mycogrow was delayed die to the holidays so i started the tea with the ewc and molasses on their own. 40 hours in and no foam. I got onlt one airstone in, could that be the problem? Or does it only foam in the presence of mycogrow? Sorry been trying to read through the thread but im barely on page 15 :(

I don't use mycogrow I use ZHO which works just as well and ur local hydro shop should have. Without the mycogrow or ZHO u r not adding microbes.. U need ALL ingrediantes? All the info u need is on page 1.

Everything is fine. I keep an eye on things here but I don't have the time to re-answer questions anymore so I usually chime in only when I think the answer is not already in the thread.

Ok, im still not anywhere near reading through the whole thread, but i think nobody's asked this:

What happens to bennies in an 85ºf reservoir? I know the slime can still thrive at that temp., but can the bennies? If so, could they still be effective.

Getting the temp down is not an option atm.

Grow in dirt next time.

Can I use Bio-worm (its liquid in bottle) instead of AF ewc ?
Should be no problems with liquid EWC.

Bennies will survive, but at 85 your bennies are competing with your roots for oxygen, so I would use a very lite application. With those temps you will barely be able to support root growth so be sure to leave a bit of a gap between the net cup and the waterline for extra air intake. Careful roots do not dry out in those temps. Increase bubbles if you can.

Thank fu#@!>& god I found this forum!!!! I gave up growing hydro because of that fu#@!>& slime!!!! I tried everything to get rid of it and nothing worked. And it wouldnt completely kill the roots untill the girls had been flowering for 4 weeks so it just pissed me off to no extent every harvest I had was shitty except the first one. Now after reading this I know it was the organic nutes I switched to that started the ball rolling!! Then after I tried switching to Flora series nutes I started adding Superthrive to the mix which just purpetuated the cycle again!! It got so bad I gave up all together, sold off all of my equipment for pennies on the dollar just so I didnt have anymore reminders of my failures. This Thread here is the equivilent of hitting me with the paddles 2 years after I died and it reviving me!!! The only growers guid I possesed at the time was Jorge Cervantes indoor medical grow bible and I read the disease chapter over and over to no avail!!! Mr. Heisenberg, and all the others whom worked with you on this, I thank you from the bottom of my heart!!! I feel like a brand new man!!!
