Can you caregive for a living?

Wondering if anyone is able to do this? I jacked another thread asking the same question and thought better of it so I'm starting this. I have 3 patients including myself (actually 4 but I operate like its 3 for extra insurance) I grow soil, organic using fox farms nutes and my own mix of soil. enough about me, I ask everyone in MICHIGAN are you making any money at this? I'm around 1.50/hour labor and costs covered. it'll improve slightly once I fill in my cycles (perpetual grow). If you have any info I'd appreciate it. mainly I'm worried about price in the end. I have tried every which way to work the numbers so I can sell overages to disp but it ends up making someone else money and I stay at below minimum wage on labor. I think this farmers market option is also jacked. I had this figured on a fixed cost model and that of course isn't going to work it's totally an adjustable cost situation. so, is anyone doing well digging in the dirt?

You really have to know where you are growing gram per watt and hit it consistently. Grow strains people are interested in keeping only worthy phenos and you'll be in the game brother. I'm not growing for $ but know many whom have for years as others come and go.

If I had 5 patients that were willing to pay $400 an oz, and use upwards of 3 oz a week each, yeah I might be able too lol.

I am reasonably compensated for my time and expenses. Nothing more, nothing less.

The only way to make a living at this is either dealing or owning a dispensary so you can charge out the ass. As far as I know they are the only ones that get away with charging $400 an oz.

yeah, I'm afraid the more I see the more it appears true that unless you take your hands out of the dirt get to butt-banging the people you want to help I'm just not going to make this a living. sucks too cuz it's what I do when I have nothing to do and it's what I make time to do when I have no time do anything so it's obviously a passion and a love so it'd be that perfect "job".

It's on of the fastest growing industries in the world. There are schools popping up everywhere. Honestly. Making a living working with several different aspects of mj industry is different than growing 2 lb plants and charging $500 a zip. You have generous people here on rollitup that grow and give away everything to charity, then you have greedy dispensaries, (not dispensaries, but greedy dispensaries) charging $450-500. How many cards in Michigan? Come on, man! Lots of room in middle.

Let me be blunt. My 2 cents...If you can't support yourself on a part time job and part time caregiving for your patients you have a problem. Spend less or learn how to be handy!

I am.. not killin it..not makin bank. but by doing everything i can to make a buck i can still take care of my patients. my other caregivers. my terminal patients and my seed project..

my grows are secondary to my service business.

I hav $500 boots...20 years old ;)

Sorry I wasn't more upfront...and it looks like homeless just filled in the gap. I have so many people that complain about money issues but yet can't seem to live within their means. What you make is what you have to form your life around. If your not happy than one needs a better paying job but for me I can live just fine with a part time job and caregiving part time for a few patients.

I have many friends and relatives that work fulltime and make twice as much as me in a year and they complain that they are living paycheck to paycheck. But they have 10k dollar cars, new furniture, always out and about spending... You can chase money and bitch or live within your means and ball!! choice is all up to the individual

right now i'm workin 12 plus hour days havin the time of my life...think about it.. almost 4 decades as a grower, and this is the first "job" I can be completly myself. Don't like it/me? fine. at least this time it is ME not some shadow of who and what I truly am.

and I grow growers.. My goto jars right now came from others growers rooms, not mine.. If you think the first buds you grew tasted sweet ya should try these !!! Thanks G. beautiful job...puff puff pass to the left

It wasn't long ago that we had all those dipshits on here bitching about caregivers making money. Things are much happier and productive around here now. Do you really want to draw them back in? They're attracted to these types of threads like flies to shit.

The answers to this question really depends on your patients, they're the ones paying you. If you're donating to dispensaries on top of your patients, and have 3 or more patients under you and you really put in the effort to grow large plants perpetually I'd say you could make a killing off being a caregiver.

My personal philosophy is don't get greedy. I am just a patient, I don't want to get greedy and have it come back and bite me in the ass. I even give away meds for free to other patients when I can, anyone who has met me can attest to that.

OH SWEET FUCK NO! I noticed that it was getting much better too and thought it might be safe to ask the question again without a huge shitstorm. I dont' want to start no shit and I don't want 500 dollar boots or a sweet ride. I am a pretty simple dude, I'm actually aiming at a 20-35 hour work week with no more then minimum wage (after taxes which I'd LOVE to pay as well) for the labor. I dont want a fucking giant medalion with my street name on it encrusted in diamonds just a white T from wal-mart is me. It's a balancing act I guess between helping til it hurts and hurting who you help. Just struggling to find a balance. Trich-I hear you and believe me when I say I'm a shitload closer to you then the 2010 buick regal crowd. I rock a minivan from 2008 with pride!

I don't see how anyone is going to make big money and be able to be legit. You have to deposit the money in a dba or business account and pay taxes on it, then pay yourself. How can this be done when not one bank that I know of will take the money? Then there's the aspect of when you find a bank that will of the IRS notifying the DEA of your business. Even if they don't arrest you they can come destroy everything and leave you hanging while laughing on there way out of your house that they just trashed. I like Glads Idea of learning other parts of the business like glass blowing and making products, teaching classes on how to grow, opening a hyrdo supply store. My useless two cents.

well, I wasn't going to go open an account with a DBA for happy pants big bag of pot. in the now I thought I could use my personal training to sell packages of 1 hour sessions with a free donation attached to it and just go on doing what I have been on that front but with a new revenue stream. it's sketchy as shit but it's all we're left with if we really want to pay taxes on this market.

Taxes? Are you knucking futs buddy? I'll pay taxes on the shit when I can sell it to my neighbor with out fear of prosecution. Until then, they can bug off, they get enough of my money to send to aid Libya and Afghanistan as it is.

^^^^^ yeah that shit times infinity!!!

peace and taxes when the war is over

Thats what I mean, everything has to be donations based which means you are a Non-Profit or you sell it all on the downlow. If it's all non-profit then you just keep all the cash? I just don't see how anyone can make a good living just from care giving. Regardless of how you do it there will always be the risk of getting raped by big brother who can, and have come in and taken everything people have owned and looked at them like "What the fuck you gunna do about it?"

Sorry just playing D-Advocate!
