Hey...new guy here. Obviously when thinking of Ph testers there are a few options out there that could fit any budget. First would be litmus paper which some people claim to be the most accurate in the economy line. Next u have the drop tester...I've been using this method successfully for years. Cost me $16 and will last at least 6 months. Easy to use and cheap! The best option would be a digital handheld Ph tester which start at around $70 or all in one res mounted with constant feedback. These vary in price according to ur needs. I like the Ph/ec/temp all in one which alerts with fluctuations...must have for hydro setups.

the only prob I got with the drop tester is when my nute solution is colored it hard to get a good reading (like if mollasses is added) Im gonna go digital

I've got this one:
http://www.greners.com/hanna-phep-4-meter.html
It's accurate and reliable. It can be a bit slow to measure sometimes, but the results are consistent and accurate enough for my purposes.
I also like using the sachets of pH calibration solutions...it's generally easier to use the pre-measured packet than to find a vial that'll fit the meter and won't waste a bunch of calibration solution. But that's just what works for me.

so i assume your growing hydro, and using this tester, so all is fine no problem with it? did you try to measure pepsi or cola?
was the result 2.5?

the reason i started this post, first , there isn't one like it about ph testers, second i had big issues with mine
made my life measurable , am using this
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002NX0VY2/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B0007XSOLC&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0MJNRXFR54M5ET8ETBNE

it can never be calibrated , every reading is different , it only works for water though even sometimes its 7.1 then 7.2 then 7.4, it changes even if i measure Respectively، and it takes around 5 minutes for the reading to stop, and i have to be 5 to 6 feet aways, because once i come close to it the reading goes crazy, i believe its very sensitive to human body electricity, and the best part is it killed my plant , it seems what ever i measure won't go below 5, i tried on pepsi and read online its at ph2.5, guess what, it was ph8, even though it was calibrated the same day, and tried on 37% HCL acid, and it was 5.8ph, and am sure it was supposed to be below 2

so am looking for something that actually works

thank for all the replays and help

Nutra-dip PH/TDS/Temp continuous meter. Note that this meter works great but gives insane readings while the digital ballast is running.
